Honestly, for the $10 more for the DSE601 kit, ruyandirect offers a one year warranty on the atomizers. Emixt only gives a ten day return period.

Hey, chef. Still cannot post URL's but let me try a work around. I just checked today: full DSE601 kits still available at emixt dot com for $52.94 (used to be $52.00). Now they also offer $51.35 for orders of 2+ items.

Don't know anything about their warranty, but I did get 3 kits from them (to minimize on shipping overhead) back in March, and they were all good. 1 atomizer died since, but the 2 others are still kicking.

As I stated before, orienting the pipe for any length of time in any position but level, will allow e-liquid to flow where it can be messy to clean up. I've had this problem several times. You think I would learn.

I have also run the cleaning cycle three times on the past few months to try and revive vapor production. Seems to work fairly well.

VG-based fluids definitely give off more vapor. I was thinking about the dozens of video reviews of vaping products on ECF and thought that anyone who really wanted to impress viewers with the vapor production of a model they were showing off more than likely used some VG. asidrave is among the few that divulged his 50/50 mix using VG. You have to take vapor production on a video with a grain of salt unless you know what the reviewer is actually using. A lttle VG goes a long way to better vapor.

P.S. I was hoping my 'wood' would get wet more often when I gave up smoking. My wife informs me I was incorrect in my assumption.

I have a question for you fellow pipers - are any of you getting liquid in the battery compartment? Every so often I seem to have liquid on my battery and in the plastic battery holder, all over the jewel cap threads, pretty much everywhere in the bowl. I even noticed that the wood gets wet.

Wow...it has been 9 weeks now with my original 601 and its still going strong....unbelieveable.

i did order another complete 601 from ruyandirect as a backup 2 weeks ago....tested...works great too. i did received a free M401 from ruyandirect with my 601 order...thanks Wayne :) He liked the video reviews i did for the 601 and gave me a free M401

all my other hardware has been pretty much retired...801, mini-pipe, 3 ruyan blings and all i vape now is mint 24mg cut 50/50 with VG.

also....i believe what contributed to the pipe cracking....besides the heat is the liquid that leaked and soaked into the wood of the pipe.

i was thinking of doing a part 3 review but there is nothing more i can say about the pipe that i already said.

I am at maybe 6 weeks on my 601 and use if 50-60% of the time. The rest of my vaping is on a 6 volt DIY mod. I find that the batteries, while they can last a long time, are pretty much below optimum voltage for outstanding vapor production after a couple of hours. I bet I cycle through three batteries each day. The best vapor is after the atty is good and hot (i.e. several deep primer puffs).

Don't worry about a third video. I will just look at the other two when I want to see you. Thanks!

I must have missed it BC - but I do have a habit of standing the pipe bowl down, especially if I stick in my pocket. I'll have to make sure to be aware of that from now on.

Yeah, bad wording on my part...for this forum anyway.

I'm probably around 40% with the 601 right now. I still wait until 5PM to fire it up as my end of the work day treat.

I have a Prodigy on order, so we'll see how that goes. I tend to like puffing on my pipe especially during the evening hours. I don't expect that to change, but you never know.

Thank you, BC!! Where would you recommend going for good VG-based juice? juicyliquid dot com? Or another place?

I've been beating around the idea of buying a 601 for some time now, and was on the precipice a few times.

I bit the bullet and went ahead and ordered one about 15 minutes ago. Too bad I didn't read this entire thread first though...

I did good (I think) and ordered from Ruyandirect, because I wanted the warranty. Having to deal with shipping from China and customs was worth it to have 1 year versus what, 7 days?

I got it for $58, as I had previous orders and got a 5% discount on my order. I bought 20 blank carts with it, because I'm not sure I'll like TAB and I have enough of my own flavors lying around.

Where I screwed up by not reading this entire thread was when I ordered extra batteries. I saw that they were 18350's... so I bought a couple 1200mAh batts from Battery Junction. Then realized that they are button-top. I saw the post in the thread about needing flush-top after the fact. Oh well... I spend $15 on lunch. Glad I didn't order more than 2 though :)

One observation I have to make to folks about the throat hit (or lack thereof)... If this is designed for pipe smokers (which I assume it was) you gotta keep in mind that most pipe smokers don't inhale in the first place.

If the pipe leaks so badly when not placed in it's horizontal position, what are folks doing to carry it? Taking the cart out?

My main vape is a Prodigy. I want the 601 for those rare times that I want a more elegant looking device. I also plan on using it when I hit the Renaissance Faire circuit later this year. It could be a pain in the .... worrying about it leaking all over the place.

Sorry this is long winded, but I gotta lot to say! :)

To Walrus: I drip the DSE601, so I do set myself up for a mess. Just like any device, any liquid that is not atomized flows through to the other end. I have not taken a pipe apart yet, so I have no clue why the auto switch does not foul. Using cartridges is definitely a better idea if you want to take the pipe with you. My pipe never leaves the house.

Since the vapor must travel quite a distance from atomizer to mouthpiece, perhaps it cools enough to reduce any serious throat hit. I tend to inhale maybe once every three to five puffs, so you observation about pipe smoking habits is pretty much spot on.

Look forward to hearing about your battery order and if they can be made to work in the pipe.

Hope you enjoy it!

Thanks. I'm a dripper 100% of the time, but I believe that in the scenarios in which I'll be using the 601 a cart will be more convenient. Does the pipe leak when using carts as well? I see myself primarily carrying it in a suit pocket or (don't laugh) a belt pouch on my pirate costume. Of course, while in the costume it'll probably be in my hand most of the time.

My concern with the batteries now that I look at pictures a little more closely is that the ones that come with it have that little dimple on top for the swing arm. Not sure it'll work with the button top... but I'll certainly give it a go. Also not sure if the jewel cap will fit in place with a button top battery.

Plenty of room under the jewel cap for a button top. It may be that there is enough room between the button and the remaining area on the top surface to park the swing arm. On my original atomizer, I no longer get decent contact in the dimple.

The pipe might have some minr leakage with a cart. I would recommend the belt pouch approach initially. Suit jacket might not be the best test subject unless you carry a plastic baggie for protection.

Does the 601 have an automatic cleaning cycle? I don't remember reading about one in the info that came with it. Last evening after I shook the atomizer to get the cart out it turned on and stayed on for a long time. Lots of smoke came out of the atomizer. After I put a cart in it initially had a bad burny flavor but after I dripped some more liquid in the cart it was fine. In fact, it vaped better then ever.

There is no cleaning cycle. The instructions do talk about a manual cleaning cycle, but I do not recall that they used those exact words. When the pipe is about 20-30 days in use and vapor production seems to fall off, you can burn off the stuff on the atomizer by shorting the battery lever and the little brass-color thing next to it. I use a tweezer to make contact with both points. Run two 10-20 second burnoffs, cooling between the first and second. First few draws may taste 'off' after a burn off.

Hello, Walrus. As I posted before, none of the 5 different DSE601s I used ever leaked on me. I carry the thing everywhere I go, in the front pocket of my pants. Never had a problem with the original cartridges... but when I made a pinhole in the cartridge (as suggested earlier in this thread), DSE601 was leaking like crazy.

My concern with the batteries now that I look at pictures a little more closely is that the ones that come with it have that little dimple on top for the swing arm. You do NOT need a dimple. Flat top works just as well. I have 6 different batteries, only 1 with a dimple.

There is plenty of room under the cap, for buttons or anything. But the sliding contact arm will likely NOT work with a button: it might slide off it.

A serious concern with the DSE601 batteries is this: it's very easy to put them in upside down. I've already killed 2 atomizers this way (was changing batteries while driving, keeping my eyes on the road). Anyone has any ideas how to prevent this?

Maybe paint a bright red ring around the top of the + side of the battery...that way you can see at first glance which end is which

I imagine that'd be one time when it would be handy if the button top batteries work... insert by braille.

The button top batteries work fine. I have used them plenty of times in the past. The orange Ultrafire 18350s.

Thanks, invidregis and Walrus. Following your comments, I'd like to try some button-tops now! Where exactly did you get them?

I am in my third month with my first DSE601 atomizer and it is starting to weaken. Vapor production is about half of what it made when new so I started a new atomizer today. Wow, big difference. I can only get an excellent hit off the dying atty by doing an 8-10 direct lung inhale.

I noticed performance degredation when I started changing batteries frequently, and had to work harder for good vapor. I started overdripping which made it perform worse. This, I suppose was to be expected, but at $39 per atomizer, I had hoped for longer life. At least with the one year warranty through ruyandirect, I can get replacements for another 10+ months, but what a drag.

I may choose to hold onto this atomizer and mod it with a USB cable and try running it off a 5 volt power source, and get it replaced when it completely dies. I bet the 601 can lay on a good throat hit with a few extra volts. Another idea is to make a mechanical switch that can run the manual cleaning cycle by shorting out the brass contact points atop below the jewel cap.

Ditto! Except that this will happen even earlier if you vape more.

I wonder if the warranty is really worth it? By the time you pay shipping to/from China, you're close to $39. Or do they also cover shipping?

Also, will they really honor the warranty for 12 months?? Note that this would mean replacing the same atomizer 4-6 times.

I am VERY interested in this, and would greatly appreciate if you keep me posted on any progress with these ideas. Thanks!
