I think I know why...because of the sellers that sell junk e-cigarettes. They only tried those and I cannot understand why they think they are junk. I bought many of the junks and was ready to forget e-cigs. This is sad ,because many will give up and not look for a good e-cig. I am glad I finally found a e-cig that really works right. I get so mad at the sellers that sell the junk e-cigs. Mad as I type this!!!!!!!

The article also appears to have been edited, to remove the words "cool" and "rebellious" from the item in question, which were a focus (but not the only focus) of our bashing.

And I'm not sure if this is true for all registered users of the site or just the ones who left naughty comments, but at that particular article, the commenting link appears to be deactivated.

It's an attempt at humor, to be sure. Not based in fact, but perception. Nonetheless, make note that perception of our practice will be something we have to overcome if e-smoking is to spread.

I have shown this to many smokers some are very intersted, others write it off as a novelty.
The smokers who are the closest to me though, all laugh and make fun of it, for them it's a big joke.

I think this is a major problem the only support e-cigs get is from e-cig users. Most non's and lifetime smokers don't care about our success and this is due to perception of what smoking means at a symbolic level.

I don't think your friends are representative of the majority of smokers. Your friends seem to not attach any stigma at all to smoking and enjoy being "smokers". A significant portion of smokers, if not most, are just plain addicted to it though and would like to stop. To those people, e-cigarettes are immediately interesting the moment they learn of their existence.

Actually I'm talking about my parents (lifetime smokers)
My best friend of 20yrs (quit smoking for 5yrs and just started back up again a year ago)

I've also shown a few co-workers most just laugh it off but some are geniunely interested.

Your from NYC, I imagine your like me, living in an east coast city where smokers aren't the minority, like they are in other parts of the country.
East coast mentality is a lot different

I hear you, but I just can't imagine not getting a ton of interested people crowding around when you whip one of these out and starting "smoking" in a bar. I haven't had the opportunity yet to try that, but being able to get your fix while sitting at the bar instead of stepping out into the dead of New York winter seems to me something every smoker will want to jump on.

(smoking inside public establishments became illegal in NYC in recent years)

That's just speculation so far though, admittedly. When I do experiment with displaying it in crowded places I'll report back on the responses I encounter.

I think that's the point
When I go to the bar, the outside of the bar is packed with everyone and the inside is completly dead
People are going inside just to suck down a drink, and a lot of places allow drinking outside in a patio area

I don't go out much, but I wish I could have taken a pic of the last time, about 50 people out in the st. @ 1 in the morning and in the background an empty bar

I just live in one of the last few smokenest, drinkenest, screw being healthy places left in the USA

That must be the difference between NYC and Boston then. From what I've seen here, indoors is the place to be, especially during winter. We go outside to suck down the cig then rush back in before frostbite sets in :)

Actually prob not, I avoid the ones in the city, I know how cold the city is.
Plus most city places don't allow re-entry and overcharge for drinks and parking; so i avoid them
I'm about 20 minutes out of the city, so it's a bit warmer and the 2 bars I go to have a sheltered drinking smoking area, put about 20 peeps in the crowd and it's not that bad

That website does not like me for some reason. I tried to register last night and kept getting a message my account wasn't activated yet when I tried to log in. Tried again today with a different user name and email account and am getting the same. I never got an email from either attempt, so I'm not sure what's going on.

It's quite interesting that they deleted the dissenting posts. Not something a reputable news organization would do, and they have the nerve to call themselves ethical!
