Steph does seem to be coming around a bit, at least to acknowledging that for us, e-cigs are a valid and successful option. The remaining point I would argue still is the "gateway" fear. She doesn't yet understand the superiority of e-cigs over smoking.

I saw that too. And I wasn't sure how much of her post was directly right AT me, because I never said e-cigs were the right choice for everyone and I HAVE noted people who have been nice. As far as coming to their defense - that never works anyhow. All it does is get more people in the argument. Look what happened to poor Positivity when she came to someone's defense.

LOL yeah.. perhaps there's a lil bit of a perv in the ol boy

Edit; I LOVE The Dr, and have since the late 70's. For the last 4 years I have downloaded every episode the day it aired. I cannot get enough. I have actually joined online virtual worlds and built tardis's and flown them from simulator node to simulator node. I have built K-9, sonic screwdrivers and a few other things I sell in these virtual worlds. I am a Dr Freak. I want Amy Pond. Hubba Hubba.

NO SPOILERS PLEASE! I HAVEN'T GOTTEN HOME TO WATCH IT YET!

Just watched Tom Baker's "Destiny Of the Daleks" last nite with my 1yo, 3yo and 5yo. Love the old school as well as the new.

sorry for the OT, but it's the DOCTOR!

I must warn you though, that I reversed out two or three punctuation changes.

I wouldn't worry too much about punctuation, grammar, spelling or the like.
Although I would never criticise anybody for it, their standards are not very high.
Some of them are okay but they are in the minority.

Cheers

I generally prefer my own rules to any rules made up by others.
:)

I know this is correct: You put the punctuation inside the "quotes."
I refuse to obey: And I always put my punctuation outside the "quotes".

I know this is correct: You don't seperate the last item, word or thing from the preceding one with a comma.
I refuse to obey: And I always put a comma between all items, words, or things in the list.

This is just how I do it, and I understand it may not work for everyone.

I can't take anybody seriously who spells criticize with an "s".

I kid, of course! :)

Sometimes I much prefer the Queen's spelling.

From Mr. Webster's Dictionary...

13.5.1 In American usage printers usually place a period or comma inside closing quotation marks whether it belongs logically to the quoted matter or to the whole sentence or context.... But when a logical or exact distinction is desired in specialized work in which clarity is more important than usual (as in this dictionary), a period or comma can be placed outside quotation marks when it belongs not in the quoted matter but to a larger unit containing the quoted matter. The package is labeled "Handle with Care".

That's my excuse for not always enclosing ending punctuation within quotes...

DC2 I am with you 100% on these points. The "correct" way just looks wrong to me.

I wouldn't suggest to someone that has never smoked that they should start vaping. That being said, what happened to free will and personal accountability?

Accountability went out in the 80s.

I generally prefer my own rules to any rules made up by others.

Didn't both those used to be correct? I could swear that's the way I was taught to do it...yeah I do it that way too on both examples.

Yeah well, I'm an Aussie but born in England, just can't help myself I suppose.
But I must admit that when I wrote documentation for a product I'd developed, which I knew would sell mostly to the US, I did adopt US spelling. It was a graphics editor and I had to use the word "colour" everywhere, it pained me to write "color" but I did.

(Interestingly, my Mac spell checker just underlined "color" (ooh, it did it again!) so I must have it set to Australian English somewhere.)

Love this thread, it just rambles off in whatever direction it likes.

Cheers

I've never watched, but I think they are talking about Doctor Who...

The tape sounds ghetto-fabulous... :thumb:

I hope you are enjoying your new ego!

Er, you didn't, actually. There's only one quoted phrase and the punctuation is inside the quotation marks. Or am I misunderstanding you?

I think the weirdest rule regarding quotes is the one that says that in a really long quote extending over multiple paragraphs you open each para with an opening quote but only use a closing quote at the end of the final paragraph. As a programmer this really goes against the grain with me, it messes up the compiler inside my head. :)

Nice piece though, it reads well to me. Well done!

Cheers

Hey there Shannon, did those atomizers ever come? I was thinking of you today when I got an email that my order shipped. The only thing I needed this month is some cartomizers. I hope mine don't come by slow boat. LOL

Yes my cartos got here Saturday. The only reason they were held up is because madvapes actually closed for memorial day.

Actually, where you put the punctuation regarding quotes is a matter of common use in the part of the world where you live.

In the US, a quote by punctuation would look like "this." <---period inside the quote

In a lot of other places, it's perfectly acceptable and/or correct to put it like "this". <----period outside the quotes.

But I often see excessive use of commas - using before an "and" or as a way to dictate where someone would "pause" if they were talking, but not grammatically correct. I was guilty of it before I began writing press releases for CASAA, but had to change my ways. I just want people to focus on the content and not get side tracked by what they perceive as grammatical errors, which could take away from the authoritative and knowledgeable tone of an article.

It's DC2's article though! :)

Ew boy.

Things are going downhill pretty darn fast on the QSMB. Flaming just created a thread that got flamed and deleted all within 40 minutes. Katiem is back with a vengeance. A few other haters whom I hadn't seen before today have popped in for support. I think I'll stay over here for a bit where people are helpful and friendly (unless of course you are a newbie poster and say that you suddenly have serious health problems after almost 3 years of vaping).
