Thank you.

It really pisses me off to know that issues with the drug were not disclosed.
And to know that I probably could have taken him off Zyprexa years ago.

I would feel responsible, if not for the fact that full disclosure never happened.
And yet, still I feel somewhat responsible.

I don't even know what to say.
.... BIG PHARMA.

It's not your fault. Even if they told you the risks they would have made it sound like he should be on it anyway.

It's tragic, but we live and learn. I feel better after everything I've gone through knowing that I've learned things that can be imparted to other people. Because of the tragedy in my life I may be able to help prevent it in other people's lives. That doesn't make it worth it, but it does make me feel better knowing that I might be able to help someone because of it.

Also, my training in school makes it possible for me to work as a scientist in a pharmaceutical company, if I so choose. This is touted as one of the better job opportunities, and someone with my credentials would make a lot of money doing it. But I refuse. Because of my experiences I know that I would be working for a company that cares more about profit than human health, and I may contribute to making people ill or killing them without even realizing it. No thanks, I'd rather have no job at all...

Parkinsonism is a potential consequence of any antipsychotic :( so yeah, these should only be prescribed long term if the person really needs them long term!

Zyprexa is a nasty drug  I remember when it was being touted as the latest and greatest thing, and everyone who had a psychotic disorder was being prescribed it. Then they started prescribing it for people with depression and insomnia. Finally, several years after being on the market, they found that it causes type II diabetes (permanently, not just while still taking the drug), and it increased suicidal thinking and behavior in people who are depressed! Now most doctors won't touch it with a ten foot pole :glare:

I feel fortunate to be of sound enough mind that I can negotiate with my doctors about what drugs I'm willing and able to take, so many people don't have the knowledge or capacity to do that :( psychiatric patients get taken advantage of all the time.

I'll take my one daily script and my lemonade flavored nicotine, thank you very much!

This is precisely why I use *only* an albuterol rescue inhaler for my very mild asthma; I refuse to huff *powder* and the stuff in Advair is just lethal anyway, and the potential side effects of Symbicort are horrible; I'm already at risk for osteoporosis, it runs in my family and I smoked for many years, I don't need yet more risk of it when my asthma is this mild. My doc finally nods and shuts it when I explain all this, but he still brings it up at every checkup.

And thank god I always look at whatever drug they're prescribing; that has saved me on more than one occasion from taking a -cillin, to which I am deathly allergic.

Big G is also in bed with BP. Here's an interesting article on the subject. But not to worry, BP invented a PTSD pill. FFS, all they need is a smoke & the liberty to smoke it. (Or vape it). Military Bans Tobacco Products To Improve Combat Effectiveness In Afghanistan

That pill MIGHT be the Bees Knees, I don't know. I'm not knocking the pill, (YET), but it's important to see how things play out.

Non-smokers just never seem to get that smoking -- actually, nicotine in ANY form -- actually INCREASES effectiveness!!!!!!!!

It's incredible how ignorant people are. It still burns me when I see things on the internet in defense of vaping or smoking and there's always comments like, "Look at how desperate these people are to maintain their addiction! Why don't you just quit already??"

Ugh! I had to get that out of my system...

I believe my new signature explains this phenomenon very well :D

I'd love to comment more on the whole psych-meds scam, but I can't be stopped if I start. Wrong forum. But if you need info or an ally, check out Peter Breggin. He's a great guy. He's also had death threats. (Hope this is not too OT in here.) But knee bone connects to the thigh bone.

Yes indeed! There are some threads on this in the health forum, unfortunately they're ancient and rarely commented upon, just like most threads in there  this is a hard topic to avoid talking about once you start, anybody who's had these issues personally affect them has a lot to say, for sure!

It's not too far off from talking about cancer, right? :D ha ha :) I agree, it does feel too OT...

But... I do check the health forum frequently, so if anyone would like to begin a discussion on the evils of psychiatric pharmaceuticals I will join you! Hint hint ;)

You go start the thread, and I'll follow. The last time I started a thread about something I had learned about, the hard, old-fashioned way, (I suffered it and learned how to fix it!), pretty soon there were a bunch of folks in there hollering the equivalent of "NUH UH!" and I just got sick of it. :D

I will as soon as I can think of an appropriate starter topic... our topic doesn't seem to wanna fit into a particular category very neatly...
