Everybody's got some good arguments on what they want to ban, but could we all pull together and please ban wearing pj's and slippers to the grocery store.....it really does cause me distress.

Really? I think it looks quite attractive, especially with the pink sponge rollers.

I keep hearing on the news ... over and over
the economy will be the primary issue in November.

I have a gut feeling that many will also be thinking
about whether they want or don't want a Nanny State.

There's a lot of Nanny State lovers out there ...
Its going to be a close race.

Edit: Not to start a political thing ...
(just part of the previous rant)

RANT

Am I the only one that thinks banning smoking every where
is a little more than childish ?? Really ...
...

It's about those who lack self control thinking they'll gain it by controlling others.

It's not just bars who should have the choice. Every private business should be able to make that decision for themselves.
Basically my state told me I could not have a retail business if I smoked. The security risk to follow their laws and step out for a cigarette are too great. This for a business I pay to run. If I want to lose customers because I smoke it is my choice. If I lose to many I'll either change or go out of business. If someone doesn't want to be employed by me because I smoke that is their choice.
Frankly I'm amazed they allowed an exemption for businesses run out of the house like mine.

I wonder to what extent the Nanny State will be able to
push Americans before they snap ... And make a phone call
to France requesting to rent the Guillotine for a month or two ??

I'm sure the Nanny State wonders about that also ... However,
like a delinquent child who is not accustomed to being told No ...
The State has to continue to push in order to find out where
the boundaries are.

Good stuff here. I really think I refused to quit smoking analogs for years to keep "them" from winning. I finally threw in the towel and started vaping four weeks ago, and it is simply the greatest thing ever. I love that I can vape anywhere and anytime (so long as my batteries hold out).

My hatred toward the abduction of our language by PC has raged since 1994. I simply refuse to allow anyone to tell me how to talk. I cannot help myself from requesting clarification from people when they use references to "f" word (when quoting someone else, mind you, not making an original use) or whatever by asking "are you referring to f*%k or f#g? How have we been so conditioned to fear a word that you cannot repeat the reference to it? I now see that this was the first step in turning us from humans into sheep. Keep fighting the good fight, especially defending our right to vaporize!

PC aside (most of it drives me nuts too), keep in mind that the word f#g is actually offensive to those of us that are gay.. akin to people running around throwing racial slurs. That's not political correctness IMO, it's not being a biggoted jack**s, big difference. ;)

I think we all are conditioned that way to some degree, although repeating a word in context does not a bigot make, I digress...

There's something called "common sense"
And there's something called The Nanny State's
goal of controlling behavior as well as thought
via Political Correctness.

Years ago, one would say "sticks and stones"
Today ... PC Laws against speech reducing
language to "letter words" ... or banning words.

The Nanny State is violently apposed to "critical thinking"
and freedom of choice.

A long-standing peeve of mine is the fact that anyone can sue for damned near anything....regardless of the actual legal papers, etc that were signed at the start. Class action law suits should have attorney fee caps, people should be held accountable for stupidity, recklessness, care-free attitudes...whatever it is. Small businesses, even doctors cannot afford to be in business because their liability insurance is so high.....I could keep going, but I'll not make y'all suffer from my rant...lol!

In the spirit of staying "on topic" because this is a rant thread

Good News everyone
The president announced "middle class" is an attitude
and not just based on income.
All is Well

Don't ya just love our elected officials
They kick the can to the end of the road
and then when forced to deal with reality ...
They declare an extension.

Just to note, on the original topic of the post :)

North Dakotans are banding together (slowly) to fight the ban of electronic cigarettes. We are also including several other BS ideas contained in the current smoking ban proposal. The proposal (linked here: Stop the ND Smoking/Vaping Ban!) also bans smoking from smoking-related businesses like cigar bars, hookah lounges, and e-cig stores -- it also redefines 'smoking enclosure' as a structure with a floor, ceiling, and walls, and restricts those walls to 33% coverage. That means that in our winters, when it hits 40deg below zero, smokers and vapers will need to stand outside with less than 33% shelter from the elements. Also, the proposal includes items like screening, fence, and temporary barricades as walls, so we can't even have a 35% screened in porch to smoke in.

Our Facebook group is here:

https://www.facebook.com/stopthendban

The language in this ban is not the result of a 'few whiners that throw their little obnoxious temper tantrums
that cause e-cigs to be included in smoking bans' -- it is the result of ANTZ desire to 'punish' smokers by eliminating their safe havens (Cigar bars, hookah lounges, etc) and shoving them out in the cold until they get sick of smoking/vaping and quit. "Quit or Die," remember?
