Washington Post: Here are the 30 questions the White House doesn’t seem to want to answer

Remember that Petition at Whitehouse.gov that we submitted back in February?

This Washington Post story is chiding the White House for not answering at least 30 petitions for an unreasonable amount of time, and highlights five of these, including a call to ask the FDA to not regulate premium cigars and our petition regarding FDA regulation of e-cigarettes.

Prevent the FDA from regulating or banning the sale and use of electronic cigarettes, accessories and associated liquids. 31,018 signatures. Threshold: 25,000. Waiting for a response since Feb 13, 2013.


“The FDA has repeatedly stated its intent to propose a “deeming” regulation to apply Chapter IX of the FSPTCA to e-cigarettes. But Sections 905 and 910 would ban all e-cigarettes, and other provisions of Chapter IX would also decimate the e-cigarette industry, protect cigarette markets and otherwise threaten public health. The FDA should NOT propose or approve any regulation that would deny cigarette smokers legal or affordable access to less hazardous smokefree alternatives. ~ Bill Godshall E-cigarettes and associated accessories and liquids are less hazardous than cigarettes and can reduce the risks of smoking. With the use of these devices millions have successfully reduced the use of cigarettes. Don’t let the FDA deny us access to these alternatives to smoking.”

Its about time someone called out the administration on this. One of the comments states, there are petitions to respond to petitions on the site now!

When I went to the website to sign the petition, it was my first visit, so of course I checked everything out. Was surprised that there's the "sign this petition" page, then there's a "see recent responses to petitions" page, but nowhere is there a "click here to see response to this specific petition" option. (IOW, there's no link between a petition and its response.) Very poorly designed website! (or was this intentional? hmmmm)

If they haven't responded, there is nothing to link to.

I believe that the previous petition (that they had the FDA give us a lame response to) did have a link to the answer.
