Early thoughts on switching from 510 to Ego (or "Why to just buy an Ego to begin with)

I started vaping about a month ago with a Joye 510. While it was nice for the first week or so, I found myself taking 8-9 second drags, draining batteries, and killing my atomizers way too quickly. I wanted a better vaping experience, better vapor, better throat hit, and batteries that I didn't have to change every 1.5 hours.

I ordered an Ego kit and an extra 1000mah battery and have been using it for the last 2 1/2 days. Here are a few of the differences I've found:

1. My drag time has decreased by more than half. Instead of needing a 8-9 second drag (on 24mg nic), I'm taking 3-4 second drags and getting an even better throat hit, and tons more vapor.

2. I'm still on the first battery charge after 2 1/2 days (using the 650 mah)! I'm a moderate vaper, not a heavy vaper, but with my 510 I would have been through 6-7 charges already.

3. I'm vaping less because I feel satisfied for longer, i.e. my PV is giving me the full effect of my 24mg juice. I'm actually satisfied before I want to be done vaping! Which means I can switch to a lower mg.

4. Huge vapor production increase! I'm not dragging so hard that I make the stupid fish-face anymore!

So, do I wish that I would have just started with the Ego to begin with? Sort of. I am kind of glad I started with the 510 because now I've had the opportunity to see the huge differences first-hand. It was an educational experience that only cost me 50 bucks or so.

These are my personal opinions, there are obviously many who prefer the smaller PV models for good reasons. But for those who want to start off with something they will be mostly satisfied with for a longer period of time, the Ego is the way to go IMHO. :2cool:

I am a new vaper, and I can say that is why I went with the ego as my first model. I don't care about "looking like a normal cig" because I typically smoke in my car anyway. I suppose if people want to avoid questions from analog smokers the "look like a normal cig" models are for them, but I honestly don't care. I have had no trouble with my ego's so far, and I have yet to drain a battery completely even after vaping on one battery since I received the unit yesterday afternoon.

I started vaping in January of 2011 with the 510 and am still vaping off it. I am finding battery life sucks too. I want to upgrade but I still don't know. There is the provari, the bloog, ego's and tank kits. So I did order some tanks for my 510 and love them! I spent almost 200 bucks for my 510 kit back in the day, but got all the bells and whistles for it. I would hate to put it down now and upgrade, after all the money I did spend. I am trying to break even from my analog smoking, and after 4 months, I did!

If you watch the posts on here, you'll see an eGo or Riva recommended over and over for a starter kit. However, some people just can't get by that cigarette sized thing. Many times the same people will be back in a matter of weeks willing to make the move for more battery for exactly the reasons you specify.

Yep! I certainly noticed that phenomenon. I was hoping a little illustration of my observations would add positively to the learning curve. :)

Yeah, the 510 versus eGo trend is kind of funny, as I'm probably going to buy an eGo today. I like the size and shape of the 510, which is what attracting me, I guess. The lack of battery is getting a little old. I keep a battery in a charger at all times, but the life seems to be getting shorter.

The question I'll have to work through is the eGo versus the Bloog. I don't know enough about them at this point. My main goal is to get something I can travel with, a day of batter life and maybe enough juice in it to last a day. I charge up the 510 about five times a day.

I know a lot of people swear by the Bloog, so I'm sure it's a quality PV, but it really can't match the eGo for versatility. They have no manual battery option, so dripping is out, the mAh rating isn't high enough for low resistance atomizers/cartomizers (and that also means that the battery life won't be as good), I'm pretty sure the cartomizers are proprietary (someone correct me if I'm wrong), so you have fewer options in that respect... I've said it before in other posts, but I'm convinced there is not a more versatile device in the world of vaping than the eGo.

the cartos aren't proprietary, they'r just kr8's. mine as well just pick up a cheaper kr8 kit if you were thinking about going that rout, then atleast you can have a manual button. the bloog cartos are supposed to be what makes them so good, also they'r regulated batteries so if you did buy a kit you won't get the 4.2v right off the charger which may or may or may not be something you want

It would seem that there is beginning to be "some" versatility with the KR8 models now. I think I have seen bigger battery options (iGo, PigCig) for slim battery users to upgrade without totally tossing everything. You can also use a 901 atty on a KR8 (although I havent tried).

It's kind of nice seeing some of the KR8 stuff coming out since many people start with them.

Being a cheap guy I always worry about cost. If I understand the Ego info I can use a cartomizer on it correct? And it does come with a manual battery? All the equipment I have right now is for 510/520 batteries so would any of the ego items fit on these or will I have to buy all new "stuff" I am really getting unhappy with the 510/520 performance. I have tried using the carts/atomizers and I do not like that. I have tried the tank system and that is very inconsistant. I get the best results from the cartomizers but they just don't last. For each use and long term.

Yep, all 510 threaded stuff fits of the Ego. Personally, I drip and love it. But you can certainly use a carto.

Well I guess for the original reason of wanting the same feeling of a cigarette I got a bunch of 510 stuff. I don't think it was a bad thing as they have been great. I still have a few and offer them to friends trying to quit( good to have something you can pass on) For the first couple of weeks they were what I needed to get off my habit.I've since gone on to the ProVari and Empire and the wife is still primarily on the eGo-T's. For an entry level the 510 is a great kit and compatible with eGo batts so not a major loss-plus you can use a 510 to drip and test out new flavors without major commitment. I have about 10 batts left and use them to try out new flavors. BTW word of warning about charging!!! you can use a 510 charger on an eGO but can't use the eGo fast charger to a standard 510!!!! I use a 10 Batt charger with adapters to charge the eGo batts and the USB eGo for travel. works great.
You also have many options to switch things around with the different models as they make an adapter for almost any battery/atty combination. So remember your not totally stuck if you have a basic kit, some of the things you already own can work with other models with the proper adapter!
