After 43 of smoking - which I enjoyed - I felt I was pushing my luck health-wise and wanted to reduce my risks. I switched to vaping because I like nicotine and wanted harm reduction....
For me its an alternative to the ignition of tobacco. Not sure where I'll wind up. But for now it is a substitute to lighting a fire and inhaling the smoke.
For me thats exactly what they did. I have not smoked a cigarette in over a month.
I never intended to quit my nicotine addiction, but instead moved to e-cigs as a healthier replacement and I love all the cool and different devices that allow me to do that.
Now maybe one day Ill start to cut back on my daily nicotine amount and eventually get to 0 nic, but that day is not today.
Today I Vape!
Depends what a person is quitting from, my poison was hookah, and the amount of nicotine that it delivered in its tobacco was compared to prolly 36-48mg nic juice, it was extremely strong tobacco, stronger than any analog out there, and my hookah was a KM(Kaheel Mahmoon), a 3 and a half foot tall completely hand made and decorated in egypt with a 4 pound Bohemian glass base that I filled with ice water and the top of my hookah had a built in Ice chamber that I filled with Ice water also, the smoke that was generated was soo smooth that it made analog smoking friends drool and get pleasurably relaxed. The whole set up costed me about $300 plus accessories that prolly put me back $200. My chuck feels like my hookah hose handle, by length and weight, or at least close to it. So it helps. Not everyone is quitting analogs you know.I kinda agree with your point of view but I really don't think most who buy an ecig do it to stop. My wife and I started ecigs for better health and to save money. We've done both. She likes her RN4081 and I am sold on the M401. Both very similar to a "real cigarette". I understand the modders ideas but personally, I can never see myself holding a pen, screwdriver, roll of quarters or box to my mouth to vape. Different strokes ya' know.
I want a PV that doesn't look like a cigarette. I hate cigarettes and what they do to people. Sooner or later, everyone will agree.
I've got people asking me, "Is that a way to quit, or a way to keep smoking?". I tell them "Yes.".
So true.
I got my e-cig thinking it might help me quit smoking... eventually. But mostly I wanted an alternative I could use in certain situations when I couldn't smoke. And I was also really hoping it would help me cut back on my analogs. But hey, it ended up working so well for me that I quit analogs all together with it. I think I'll eventually taper down my nicotine too, but I'm in no rush.

I'm a little confused by the OP. You state that you thought PVs would help you quit smoking. Later, you say you want them to be more cigarette like, which implies replacement. Which is it? Do you want to quit smoking, or substitute smoking?
I bought my first PVs back in September with the intention of giving up nicotine, and eventually caffeine to save $$$. (Cigarettes and Diet Coke go hand in hand for me.)
For 2 months I did not touch 1 cigarette. Then I started playing around with them here and there - a PV just does not cut it for me when I am drinking, plus some jerk at work liberated my e-cig from my purse last week, but that is another story.
I have not quit nicotine yet, but I have as stated above, quit smoking cigarettes for the most part. I do still want them here and there, but once I make it passed a week the desire goes away.
I do not feel I have saved any money, but much of that has to do with some faulty parts, and me over-ordering medium, low and zero juice when I was gung-ho on quitting in the beginning. I am a lover of gadgets, and have noticed that PVs have evolved into a hobby for me. I get all the things I enjoyed about cigarettes - nicotine (I eat less, and thus weigh less), hands busy, something to improve/force me to focus, etc. In return I can breath, smell, and taste. I don't hack up phlem anymore, and my house no longer smells.
My family is grateful that they are no longer parties to 2nd hand smoke. Maybe I will quit vaping some day - I know I already vape less than I smoked. $ is still a bit of an issue, but in all honesty I think people need SOMETHING in life that is purely for their enjoyment and entertainment, or there is no point to life. For me, it is ingesting nicotine via vapor.
I also decided Diet Coke will be ripped from my cold dead hands.![]()
