"Hundreds of millions of dollars for tooling" sounds like pure BS.

Im a retired machinist.
There would be no need for that.
It's 19th century tech.
Aromatherapy with a straw.

This might be a way to get a tobacco system in place that uses the catch phrases like "vape" and "no burn", as well as avoiding any pesky FDA regs, which these bypass.
Sorry I meant tooling in the broadest sense. Entirely new facilities are being built. It will take a lot of machinery to make 100's of millions of cartridges and other componants. I'm the engraver in a custom build shop (automotive test and assembly machines). I could have said production facilities.

"PMI said the application for iQOS represents the next step in building a reduced-risk product portfolio “that meets a broad spectrum of adult smoker preferences and rigorous regulatory requirements.” It has invested more than $2 billion in reduced-risk product development."

Ceramic Tube with Notch-Type Heating element, but larger and longer, Connections look compatible with most attys. Use conventional cigarette or 'Stuff Your Own' (much less expensive)...maybe add a little VG to the tobacco. Looks like they could work well with convention VW devices dialed down low.

This looks like it could provide a decent Non-Combustion alternative to the Expensive ones promoted by the traditional tobacco companies.

I found these on a Chinese 'Supplier' website. I didn't get anywhere with them as they wanted me to sign up with an agent, etc.

This looks to be the best I've seen for dry tobacco vapor

Is someone good at getting samples out of China?

I've been hearing about this idea for what seems like years and I am extremely skeptical. It just seems to me that you'd be using the same chemical laden tobacco and so it seems like you'd be running the risk of inhaling those chemicals even without combustion. I don't know though, the tobacco was designed to be burned and BT has put a lot of effort into controlling what happens when a cig burns so maybe not. As much as I love tobacco I have been conditioning myself to stay away from it so it's probably a no-go for me.

Just thought I'd toss this out there, I remember reading somewhere that the Heat Sticks actually have PG added to them to help extract the nic.

No, the sticks have PG added to them to keep the tobacco moist and help prevent it from actually burning.

If an open system, at least a person would have a choice of tobaccos. (stuff your own.)

The tobacco companies have probably figured out they can't make money from vaping but maybe from heat not burn. ( if you mix and rebuild and only have the things you need vaping is free.)

'If' the ceramic cylinders shown above work, the associated costs can be relatively inexpensive...depending on taxes at any given location. 'Stuff Your Own' is where one purchases filtered tubes and uses a hand-ratchet machine to insert the tobacco. It's basically the same system that the tobacco companies utilize. Costwise, it isn't likely to be as inexpensive as DIY e-cigs, but probably nothing like factory cigarettes or heat-not-burn.

Based on what I've observed with closed heat-not-burn systems, they won't be inexpensive. The short refills don't seem to provide more than a few puffs.

What exactly are you inhaling with one of these systems? Does it produce a vapor, a smoke, or something else?

...not sure how to qualify that. It may depend upon the moisture content. No doubt with tobacco there are constituents other than those we may get through vaping.

Subject: Re: Electrical Ceramic Heater for E-Cig
Dear Dick,
Sorry, we dont have this kind of tube shape heater in stock now.
Is cup shape heaters also work for you? We have a lot of cup shape heaters for heating herb or tabacco (apply in 3.7-4.2V).

Regards,
Max
