Oh, that is a shame. I have had no luck with protected batteries and from Tomzgreat's review, it doesn't work well here.

Oh, well I guess that is what the factory sent them with, because everyone seems to have the same thing. Just a waste.

I am seriously thinking this is may be my next purchase so anxious to get your impressions.

I'm using one ever since I shorted out my EgoTwists a while back. I got mine for $31 shipped from FreeCigs.com here. The ICR battery it came with crapped out after two charges, so I purchased a pair of EH IMR from MadVapes here and this this charger. Definitely use the IMRs, for whatever the reason is, the battery that came with the device heats up the upper chamber after just a couple of hits. The 600mah EH IMR lasts me ~180 puffs (I guess the puff counter isn't useless after all, lol), but the charge time is only ~2hr which isn't bad.

Copy and paste from my previous post w/ some modifications:

Positive:
3-6V VV - need IMR battery to reach higher voltage (5V+) or will shut down
LCD - decent contrast, easy to navigate, shows puff counter/current voltage/battery meter (also display charging status when using Ego charger)
Replaceable 14500 battery - no more EgoTwist/KgoVV/Spinner 'disposable' batteries
Cost - $31 shipped and comes with a ICR14500 battery compared to ~$20-$25 EgoTwist/KgoVV/Spinner
Charger - can use your Ego charger to charge the device (would avoid if using IMR batteries)

Negative:
Recommend using IMR battery => lower capacity
Size - slightly longer (5.5") than 1000mah EgoTwist (4 3/4")
Build quality - +/- button seems loosely fitted which raises concern that it'll get stuck if pressed too hard or at a wrong angle. The threading for the battery chamber looks like it can be easily worn out, definitely something to look out for when swapping out batteries (spring loaded).
Safety - so far only the devices being sold by countryroadvaping.com comes with additional vent holes, not an issue since you can drill your own.
~1/2 a second delay (keep firing) after releasing the power button

Thanks! Sounds as good as you could hope for $31 shipped!

What about these batteries from Liberty-flights.com for the new egO VV. Will these be OK? 3.7v IMR High Drain 14500 - 700mAh - 2/Pack
Those are EFest 14500 batteries. From what I know, EFest are gaining popularity among hobbyist as a cheaper alternative to AW IMRs. Definitely will work on the Ego 14500 VV.

For reference, here's a good site that allows you to compare battery performance from different manufacturers:

Any idea what the mad vapes 14500s are? They are ony rated 600mah but 2.99 means 3 vs. 2 at liberty flights.

Also, should I get flat tops or button tops?
The ones I purchase at MadVapes is EH, a comparison with AW IMR 14500 can be found here. The battery chamber have a spring which pushes the battery to a button-shaped connection, so both flat top and button top should work but I decided to go with the flat top since the device came with flat top ICR battery.

That is a great reference. The chart shows AW a lot better in the relevant range, if I am reading it correctly. Looks the the EH does last a long time but much of the time it is a low voltage - i.e. less than 3.3 volts..........and looks worse at 3 amps so AW looks to best it by considerable amount for our use.

Of course, I don't know how many batteries of each make they tested. I assume that EH probably would be more variable as to good or bad samples whereas AW probably more consistent?

By no means EH will perform as well as AW IMRs, but I'm not sure the performance difference justify spending 2x more for a AW IMR. BTW, here's a thread on EFest vs. AW comparison if interested (it looks promising).

I have stocks of all three batteries (AW, Efest, and EH) in 18350 and 18500 size. My anecdotal experience is that the Madvapes EH don't give as much vape time as the AWs and Efests, but they're about half the price, so I'm not particularly disappointed.

Here's a post from the ZMax thread by ECF member Morandir835:

In all my testing the efest batteries (18490 1100mah imr, and 18650 1500mah) did perform well, as well as the AW batteries of the same size and mah, but didn't last as many cycles under the same use and charging conditions. The 18650 2000mah and the 18350's were a completely different story. The 2000mah had a higher resistance than that of the AW cell, couldn't handle more than 8.2a of current being drawn (rated for 10a just as the AW 2000mah is), and after 132 and 138 cycles saw significant loss in capacity. Have two AW 2000mah imr that are 288 and 312 cycles deep, and both still perform almost as good as new. The 18350 batts the efest had a higher resistance as well compared to the AW (which means lower amperage output, more dramatic voltage curve), and where the AW is listed 700mah and with a hobby charger measured an actual 698mah, the efests are listed at 800mah, and the best number I saw with testing my 4 samples was 673mah. Again right ~125 cycles they started losing performance. How is saving that $1 worth having to spend another $6.59 after 125 cycles later, when I can spend the $7.60 on an AW 18350 and 200 cycles later still going strong?
