Depth perception plays a big role in dripping to top-off a carto.
The draw seems to be getting tighter, but I intend on running a paperclip in to clear some gunk from the airway to see if this helps.
i forgot my own rule of checking to see that the carto isn't becoming blocked each time i top it off(!) ... vaped a fairly new emdcc until the draw got way too tight. i had to start with the sharp point of a large safety pin, then go to the small paper clip, and rock that around a little, before i could get the larger paper clip to slide (waggle) thru. it worked, tho, and i have air flow again, and am happily vaping some of my "home brew." i'm just getting started on mostly diy vg juices and am loving it ... using tpa flavors! i'll reap the savings reward later, i'm sure. i totally agree that 4.2-4.8v on the vv box seems to be working for me, too. also, i'm vaping about 5 ml a day (or more) ... a good enough reason for diy juices. the other reason is to be able to make the flavors i love. i'm into chocolate anything but mint, and i'm using cotton candy and ethyl maltol for sweetener. i've been doing quite a bit of reading in the "guide to diy flavoring," and have had some great diy advice from gooddog!
i totally undetstand about the vision and depth perception problem. i have about 90% monocular vision, myself, at about 20/40, or maybe worse by now, in my best eye. i use the mega drip tip but not to drip. i take the drip tip off and sometimes still end up with juice running down the outside of the tube. lol it's not much fun, i know, but it sure is a lot better than trying to fill those tiny little cartos i started with a few months back. lol one more point: when the filler hole gets too closed up in the emdcc, i have to use a loupe to even see the darned thing, so it's back and forth between holding the loupe and the pc tools! that's only when i let the draw get way too tight, tho. guess i'm trying to say that i can identify with what you wrote.
