Don't forget to pull the little rubber insulator out of the CL before tossing them. They work fine in the CLR's and are impossible to find.

I did NOT know/realize/think of this! I'm VERY glad I haven't thrown out that baggie-full I have yet.

THANKS, DD!

My pleasure! When I was turned onto the CLR's a couple of years ago I was hooked. The more I rebuilt them I came to the conclusion that the weak link was that little insulator. Will need to get spares. I looked & looked, and think others did too, but to no avail. I couldn't find them anywhere. I haven't heard of anyone posting a source so far.

With a baggie-full, you are now officially the Grommet Tycoon of Planet CLR!

So, have tried to rebuild mine a couple of times with ss316 28 ga wire, 2mm coils, so much spitback/gurgling etc.

Any suggestions on what to use/size to build etc? I only have ss316 wire from 24 to 30ga.
28 ga works well, 26 ga too, but not quite as well. Try 7-8 wraps of 28 on a 2.5 mm mandrel, very slightly spaced. I can barely fit 7-8 wraps of 26 ga, slightly spaced in there too, but it’s a very tight fit. (I’ll have to check how many wraps next time I re-wick.) Thicker clouds and lasts forever, tho; I’ve had a 26 ga coil in one for several months now. (Maybe 7?)

I think spaced coils result in less spitback and less gunk buildup. Also, IMO spitback can also be caused by either too much or too little power being applied to the coil. There is a sweet spot in between those points, so you might try playing around with your power setting before chucking your current build.

Just noticed that you’re wrapping 2 mm coils, which IMO is too small. Your wick might not be thick enough completely fill the CLR wick holes, which would allow excess eliquid to enter the firing chamber. You might try raising the lower threaded ring of the CLR to close the wick holes a bit if you want to use 2 mm internal diameter coils.

I do 2mm as the 2.5 mm coil rod doesnt fit in the case to help keep the coil at the right height while rebuilding.

How do you do it?
I use the Coilmaster 2.5 mm rod. It’s a tight fit - just a smidgeon too big - but I press it in with a little pressure. It doesn’t seem to do any damage to the CLR housing and I can screw the cap on over it. If you want something close that fits easily - a little loosely as I recall - you could try a 3/32” drill bit, but I rather just use the Coilmaster jig.

3/32” bit = .09375 inch (= 2.38 mm)
2.5 mm = .09842 inch
2 mm = .07874 inch

I guess you could wrap a 2.5 mm coil in the jig then use the 3/32” drill bit to set the coil into the CLR housing, but to me it’s not worth the hassle.

I used 28ga kanthal, either 2.5 or 3.0 (I can't remember). It was the Coilmaster rod that JUST fit into the space. Definitely not the 2.0 - that much I remember.

It worked fine, whichever it was. I only did a couple of them (because they seem to last forever).

You used the 2.5 coilmaster rod.

26 AWG at 2.5 mm core for around .5 ohm works pretty well without spitting and gurgling.

LOL! I trust ya, Dieseler.

I don't know what it says about my vape, that I have more faith in you than me, but if the coil fits (vape it!).

:vapor:

I do know that I set them higher resistance so I can use them on my Provis. They ring in at 1.5(ish), as a rule, and they work like a charm. :)

Seems we vape pretty similar from reading the forum in past and present.
Even joined forum around same time and experimented over the years with many different options usually grabbing the trusty clr setup thats stood the test of time but do grab other setups for variation.

Heh, for me I'm not to stressed about rebuilding COILS yet, more like rehabbing tanks. The only 4 ml I have left is the Oddessy tank which I LOVE but also refuse to MOVE anywhere except from my mod holder to my mouth.

In disgust I went back to my kabukis because the only Joytech etc tank I have left is, well, I will see if it can be guessed via PIC (I just like this pic so I am posting it) although I WILL say the Kabukis compare FAVORABLY with the CLR tanks when it comes to longevity, man, and the flavor is JUST as GOOD I did a head to head with my last tank to compare. LOL. Different, but just as good maybe more subtle and less overwhelming although you just can't beat the CLR coil for volume and richness. Photo staged by me, tanken by the husband. LOL. And that's the virgin of Guadalupe behind them, I love her, she's an authentic (around here) slightly different saint figure.

Even the husband broke his (catastrophic drop) but I CANNOT be trusted with those tanks. I've seen the "no ohms" message enough to be slightly traumatized. I have dropped my kabukis like INFINITY times, I think and never has it refused to read. You lot must be AWESOME caretakers of your wealth.
