Ego-T battery overcharging?

I have two 1000mah Ego-T batteries that I purchased last week. Yesterday while vaping I noticed the LED at the button blinking multiple times when pressed on one of them. As I had been using it pretty heavily, I assumed that was a signal it was getting low and plugged into the screw in USB charger.

Several hours later, the light on the charger was still red. I disconnected it from the charger and replugged it. It immediately went red again. I thought it should have charged by this time, but moved it to the USB passthrough cable and left it on my computer all night. When I woke this morning the light at the passthrough port is still red. I did 5 click the battery off beforehand.

The battery still fires an atomizer, so it isn't fried. But I guess for some reason it isn't shutting down when charged. Is there anything I can do to reset the chip inside? Or will I just have to start timing my chages on it?

That could be dangerous. Sounds like the battery is defective or the protection circuit is damaged. How long has it done this? How low of resistance have you been using on them? Some people won't go real low resistance (like 1.5) on anything but a mod.

And is this real Joye or a clone? There are some inferior clones around just called "Ego"

It does take a few hours to charge them. Is the battery getting hot when charging? Are you sure it's a passthrough that you're using or the USB charger that comes with the kit? I'm not totally sure that a passthrough is capable of charging the battery. If it is the USB charger you are using, then I'd definitely say you have an issue with the battery. Contact the supplier and tell them about it. They should replace it.

According to the supplier when I purchased, it is a real Joye. The instruction manual states the battery will charge on the usb passthrough. In fact, I have charged the battery with it before and the red light at the end of the battery went out after a time. The battery does not get hot while it is on the charger.

Regarding resistance--I have used both the regular and low resistance Type-B atomizers that were supplied with the kit when purchased.

Those resistances should be fine.

I think ask your vendor about it.

It's also possible you overfilled it and there's e-liquid shorting out the battery or charger. Try wiping out the connections on both the battery and the charger a couple of times with a q-tip or a piece of tissue, then reattach the battery to the charger.

Ok, I figured out the problem with the battery charger not kicking off and thought I would post the solution in case anyone has similar problems in the future...

It appears as if a USB port on my computer takes MUCH longer to charge a 1000mah battery than I had estimated. I had been using the usb port to "top off" the batteries without incident. But this particular time I had drained it until the button light was blinking. Nine plus hours had not completely recharged it and I thought something was wrong.

I vaped with the battery yesterday and last evening decided to use an adapter and plug the charger into an electrical outlet. About 4 hours later, I had a green light!

So, I am assuming that my USB port just doesn't send enough power to charge the battery in the time frame that the instruction manual claims.

Interesting. I have drained mine completely a few times and it still only takes a few hours to recharge via USB. I suppose it's possible that there may not be enough voltage to your USB port, but I would think that is doubtful...keep a close eye on it. If it were mine, I'd still contact the supplier and tell them about it. At least you'll have it on "record" that you've had issues with it if they don't decide to replace it right away.

Of course it could also be an issue with your USB port as well. Do you have more than one?

What I have noticed on this subject is some of the USB ports on USB hubs and some PC's don't actually supply 5oomA so you don't get any sort of decent charge from them. If you plug your passthrough cable direct into your USB wall wort it charges properly. Hope this helps someone

From a little research I've done, I've found it to be commonplace that USB hubs will split the incoming power between the ports. You will not get full power to all ports if you are using other devices also.

This may be the same with a PC.

Finally a topic I am slightly versed on!!

Here are some USB tips and tricks

If your laptop or desktop computer goes to "sleep" mode power to the USB ports MAY be cut off. Some models power USB and other ports regardless

A USB hub may reduce power output. Even when plugging directly into your computer the USB ports may be part if an internal hub.

As an example,take the iPhone. I have certain computers and certain ports that will just not charge the dang thing!

In closing, if you use the correct charger plugged directly into an AC outlet, you will receive the fastest and reliable charge
