eGo, vGo, Tornado, Inferno..... Uh Oh :P

I'm trying to figure out which model to upgrade to but I'm starting to get a little overwhelmed with all the different makes/models/companies and would appreciate any advice on the subject.

I started with an KR808, bought a 510, and now I want to get something to use for dripping & longer vaping times between charges. I have alot of atomizers for my 510 and I know they're compatible with many of the eGo models so that's a plus. I really like the designs with the lighter wave that runs along the casing of some models but if they're a crappy machine I don't want to waste my time & money.

Sooo my question: Is there much of a difference between the eGo, vGo, Riva, Lux, Bodega, Tornado, or Inferno models or is it just company logos & looks?

I did notice that the Volcano Inferno comes with a 650mAh passthrough + a 1000mAh battery while most of the other manufacturers come with just 2 manual batteries (2 x 600, 750, or 900 mAh models usually) & no passthroughs. Although with larger batteries like those I don't really think a passthrough is needed and I already have a 510 passthrough so I should be good in that department but if it's a useful feature I might as well get it.

I also noticed that some models come with different types of buttons. Some have straight black, some light up, and some have a jewel for pressing. Any differences in quality or again is it just for looks?

And last but not least... finish. Does the gloss finish wear off/scuff faster than the matt/straight colour finish?

Thanks for any feedback! :)

1) I have 7 passthroughs that I rarely use. The 5 volts turned out to be too much heat for my mouth, throat, and chest. I bought more eGo batteries and use only them now, since they last a long time before needing to be recharged, are very durable, and I can carry them anywhere.

2) I've had extremely bad luck with the cheap-quality and overpriced Volcano products, so I don't trust that company enough to ever buy any more of their products, including the Inferno. No way, Jose.

3) I prefer to pay a little more for genuine eGo batteries. That's just me. Others might disagree...

4) The genuine eGos have plastic recessed buttons that seem fine to me. My Bauway 1300mAh batteries have rubber buttons that will push easily through and burn whatever's underneath the button (if not careful). I've heard the Rivas have rubber buttons, but I don't own any Rivas, so don't know.

5) The gloss finish on my silver-colored eGo 900mAh batteries seems to be real metal and not a finish. My black eGos have tiny scratches in a couple of places that are only noticeable when looking at them just right. I've had the blacks for about six weeks and the silvers for about two weeks.

6) I see no reason to buy a 650mAh PT with a 1000mAh battery, especially when the brand is Volcano. My best advice is to stay away from Volcano brand.

Like Deb I prefer the Joye's they have nicest fit and finish out of them all IMO, I have a 650PT a regular 650 and a 900. If your patient and shop around you can get them for good prices, my PT was the only one I paid full price for from vaperite $26ish and it included a cone, the regular 650 I paid $11 n change for and $16ish for the 900 both from myfreedomsmokes using a 40% coupon code. I too already had a 510 so I didn't see the need to go out and buy a full kit when I already had atty's, cart's and carto's.

My 1300mah VGO kit came today, only having it a couple hours I can't say much about it other then it seems like a good deal for cheap price I paid, the fit and finish is ok but the goldem trim is rather ugly IMO I much prefer the silver on the ego's.

Benji Luv,

I'm with you on this. I've been vaping for 2 weeks (smoke free to boot) and I'm ready to upgrade to a model for my personal time. I've the 510 set up for work. It's inconspicious (I'm at hospital), but I definitely need more 'kick' (with the TH, I know different thread entirely) and longevity when I'm home nights and weekends. I've perused this forum every night and I'm still confused. Shouldn't be, but with all the information and wisdom, I'm having some difficulty boiling it down into basic salient points. I'll be watching this thread, hope 'we' get some awesome insight. :)

I agree that, usually, the original is best, and cutting price often includes cutting quality. I have genuine eGos and, for the only 2 weeks I've had them, I love them. But, what is wrong with the Volcano brand? I have heard a lot of good stuff about them, and they even have a 1 year warranty.

I'm definitely in the same boat and plan on keeping my 510 and PCC to use at work since the look/feel is similar to an actual cigarette (I've been off analogs for one month so far and with alot of smokers around my work area it satisfies the "psychological/behavioural" side of smoking).

I've been hearing good reviews on the eGo for awhile now and it seems to be the benchmark for that type of vaporizer. I'm definitely leaning towards that one at this point :)

Does anyone know of any sites with some unique designs or finishes for the eGo? All of the ones I seem to find for the eGo are just one solid colour but I like the design on the inferno

I kind of figured that the passthrough wouldn't really be needed with those types of batteries. Thanks for the info!

i love my eGo's, bigger battery so you can use Low Resistance Atomizers, but not so big that you cant conceal it. plus i like the light on the button rather than the end of the battery.

That's another good feature that I like about them. Although something with a "stealth" feature might be nice so the light doesn't draw too much attention in dim-lighted places.

I ordered 10 atomizers from HappyVaper.com due to the fact that I heard stronger liquids embed their flavour in the atty, so one atty per flavour might keep the tastes separate and having spares might be a good idea. (10 for the price of 6 was a pretty good selling point too :p) So I really don't need to buy full kits either but then again some places give you discounts for full kits and it might be cheaper than buying parts separately.... although I can mix & match colours and sizes :)

I have the Inferno and the 650 PT is what sold me on the deal. It's a battery PT so it charges in between vapes but the power is taken from the battery - so its not a 5V PT. Advantage: If both of your batts are dead, you can plug in both your 1000 and 650 and still vape on your 650. The quality of my Infernos seem to be top notch and I haven't had any issues so far. If I did, at least I would have the one year warranty.

If it's your first kit, carts aren't included in the starter kit but the prefilled carts aren't that expensive and they also have empties and drip tips that you can add to your order. They take 510 carts/attys/cartos and I was planning on dripping with it anyway so it was better that I didn't get stuff I wouldn't use.

I haven't had to deal with Volcano's customer service but from what I've seen on their forums, they do seem to be very receptive as far as interacting with their customers and addressing issues as quickly as possible. They have weekly interactive chats with the Volcano owners and if people had serious issues, then they could take them straight to the top.

What is wrong with the Volcano brand? An easier question to answer might be: what is right with the Volcano brand? Absolutely nothing that I know of.

I've posted several times recently about why I would stay away from Volcano products. You could probably find those posts by viewing some of my recent posts. It seems like there have been several new users lately who have mentioned that they've ordered Volcano products. Makes me wonder if they're Volcano employees trying to spam the new Inferno, which I would never trust based on the cheap quality of the Volcano kit and Volcano passthroughs that I wasted almost $200 on. Still waiting for Volcano to send me two replacement passthroughs after I returned three defective ones a month ago. They haven't responded to my last three emails in the last month, either, about those defective passthroughs, so it looks like I'm gonna be SOL after sending them back 3 defective PTs and only receiving one PT in return. So much for their warranty on the passthroughs I bought in late September and returned two weeks later.

Over the last couple of weeks my brother-in-law (BIL) and I had a number of eGo/Riva batteries suddenly die and it may have been due to using LR attys. It was crazy, one of mine died, then in one day BIL had two go, next day another one of mine. It was a mixture of 2month old batteries and brand new ones. We were getting desperate because our spares were all used up and they just kept dying. Perth WA, is the most remote capital city in the world and so spares take a while to get here. Locals reckon WA doesn't stand for Western Australia at all, it stands for "Wait Awhile".

Anyway, I read a thread on the ECF "Battery Issues" forum (thank goodness!) where other people were reporting the same thing and they put it down to the LR attys. Apparently the amount of draw from the battery for a LR exceeds the capacity of the Riva/eGo batts and the little microchip under the button gets fried. Once we changed back to normal attys, no more problems. Spares are now replenished as well.

Some people have had no problems with the LR's but others have had the same experience as us. Just be careful.

My PT was a saviour during all this as I could hook it up the computer (home & work) and into the car adapter. I gave my last two batteries to BIL to get him through because he works outside. My PT is a 510 with an ICR10440 battery in line. These batteries are available all over the place if it gets fried by a bad atty.

Since I started vaping (6 months) I have tried to make sure that I have backups of everything because when things go wrong, they can go horribly wrong very quickly!!!

My usual set up is eGo 650mah, Riva 750mah & Ego 900mah batteries with 510 attys & carts and all are excellent!!

Wow. I'm glad I've gotten some more information. I've asked a few times about them and have gotten nothing but good reviews. I've read quite a few posts saying good things about them. I guess it's all in which posts you read. Maybe I should start spending a little more time in the reviews sections.

That makes me sad. I know they aren't manufacturing them there, but I still like to support the US when I can. I'd buy more local if I could just because local money helps the local economy.

I have Joye eGo's and I have an Inferno kit, I love them both. I had a problem with the pt on my Inferno and I emailed them and they had a new one in the mail the next day. They even sent an addressed stamped envelope for me to return the bad one. I didn't even pay for my Inferno, the owner flew in from Hawaii to Colorado to our vaping meet and gave away tons of door prizes including Inferno kits for which one of them I won. I have since ordered atty's for my eGo from them with no problems at all. My eGo I got from Cignot and atty's and batteries been going strong for over 2 months. I would order from either company again.

My first e cig was the volcano magma. I still have it even though it sits in the corner collecting dust. Next went with the V3 from puresmoker, and when the inferno came out I looked at the other Vgo's and decided to go with the inferno. Volcano has a nice kit for the inferno, a year warranty, and I use my inferno(s) daily, they ship 2 batts and 2 cones with the starter kit. Shipping has always been quick- even from Hawaii, it took 2-3 days to get the kits thru USPS shipping, and I have never had a problem with CS. My emails were answered promptly, and the issue that I had (points amount) was taken care of in about 24 hours. Their juices are decent, if a little expensive. For a starter kit like the magma or inferno, I have no hesitation recommending this company. I have the cherry red inferno and use cartomizers with drip tips for it.
