Hungh?
The insulators I was talking about was the plug thingies you sent me Cheech.
Not sure how you could rebuild one without that.

Some coils, rarely, came with insulation material surrounding the coils in the cap.
It looked similar to fiberglass cloth. Sooner or later you'll run into it.
I don't have a picture of it anymore and there was a big discussion on it way, way back in the thread.

had me for a minute there - then it came into focus (I remember )

think this is what is being refered to...

Yep, thinking back, now I do remember getting a couple of coils with that gizmo and the top caps were smooth instead of having etching at the top. :)

Just built another one. 1.4 ohms. I make 6 wraps then undo the first one. I can't believe how easy this is.

I cut a foot of wire for the first one. When I was done I had about 7 inches left. I was able to use that piece to build the second coil.

At $7.50 for 100 feet that's 3.75 cents per coil for wire. I figure I have enough rayon to make 7,200 coils. That's 0.25 cents per coil for rayon. Grand total 4 cents per coil.

I knew not to dry burn the coil as to not burn the rubber grommet, but do I need to clean the kanthal first?

I've heard some people clean them but I never did. You can dry burn it a couple of seconds if you want to get the excess oils off, if any. I just fire mine in and vape. Never noticed the difference. :)

I dry burn mine a couple short bursts while lightly blowing on them before wicking. Good time to do it is when you are checking the resistance before you wick.

I used to anneal the wire Before winding the coil. I stopped doing that.

There's that bad boy!!! The rarely seen "insulator"!
That pic should clear up any confusion.

Was that the case? I hated the smooth top ones, hard to get them off the base without knurling.
Used to toss them out...

After a YEAR I still wait too damn long to switch a coil out. And that's with 8 rebuilds just sitting there waiting to be used. Every new coil I ask why I waited, then I vape That coil too long.

At least in this instance, I'm a definite slow learner.

Maybe it's that I use mostly dessert type juices and/or the 30g Kanthal but my coil/wick is just one
fused piece of black tar when I open them up after soaking them in hot water and drying. I've tried
to put a needle through where I think what's left of the coil is, no joy. I just rip it all out and gave
up on rewicking a long time ago.

Frannie and Gracie are making this coil building sound so easy, I'm going to have to get right to it.
Just as soon as I use up these boxes of coils ......:facepalm::facepalm:

Ah, I see you are well prepared........ think that you will have an extraordinary amount of coils to rebuild. Yikes!
