I think the main problem with the VTC 510 connection is that it is not actually spring loaded. It actually has a rubber tube under the 510 that creates the spring effect. The rubber tube will wear out over time.

evic VTC - thinking the biggest concern is the 510 not being attached to anything...

The addition of the Smart Mode is pretty cool, and must be a new idea, as I haven't seen it on any other joyetech mods yet.
The VTC mini and Cuboid have had Smart Mode for the past 3 firmware updates...

That total piece of junk Dovpo DT-50 had Smart Match (Resistance/Power memory) back in 2014. Now you want to talk about trash 510 connectors, joyetech's could be considered LEMO quality connectors compared to Dovpo.

Ah. Well thanks, I was unaware of Smart Mode being on the others, (don't own a VTC Mini or Cuboid).

As for the 510 connection, I think the Pico's is distinctly better than other recent Joyetech devices.

Now I'm confused. Are you using the Temp SS mode or the TCR mode? You don't need to set any TCR values if using in Temp mode. All of that is preset. In Temp mode, you just need to set the wattage and temperature.
Sorry to confuse, I was just saying that I use the defaut setting and not a TCR value for 316L. I do use a TCR value of 138 for SS430 though.

How are you finding 430 over 316L? Where I am 430 isn't really "easy" to come by (316L is cheaper and more accessible) so I'm just wondering if it's worth the investment.

I really like it but I only have it in 28g at the moment. The SS430 has almost twice the TCR of 316L and performs much better with TC.

Using TC with SS316L is more like Temperature Limiting than Temperature Control. In EScribe you can see the difference between the two wires, SS316L has a very jagged sawtooth pattern where the SS430 has a smooth, almost flat curve.

probably be fine at lower power (<50w maybe)

what W / Ω's ya gonna be running at ?
and due to the design of the Pico (screw on battery cap)
you might be able to get away with those nipple tops...

surely worth a try ;)

I'm what is that called a "tootle puffer" lol So I'm usally ohm'ing at 1.5-1.8 and don't normally go any higher than 15w's
Thanks for the reply, I think I'm going to go ahead and order the pico. And eventually get more batteries. It's time to get a few upgraded mods. :)

Being a dyed in the wool tootle puffer myself, I'm liking the Pico!
I rarely venture above 15 watts but the compact design and changeable battery sold me.
And besides, anything Pufzepplin recommends is okay in my book.
Except that time he double-dog dared me to jump off the roof...other than that.
