So my istick keeps going into protection mode when chain vaping. What gives?

My original 20W just did that to me yesterday as well. I had not seen that before, only the low resistance warning and short. But my KFL+ clone had begun to leak due to the coils being gunked and I was trying to push the device. Needless to say, I was surprised by that warning since I didn't know it had it, but otherwise it was my fault and I had liquid to clean up off the bending adapter.

Remember, there isn't much room inside the body, and with normal use the battery does get warm and you can feel it on the body.Same as with charging. Just let it rest a minute and go back at it.

Kayfuns, 1.1 to1.3 ohm builds. I usually just crank up the istick to 20 watts / 5.0 volts

I shouldn't be responding, because I'm still trying to reconcile my own experiences and the numbers on the power charts - to the large, inexplicable numbers people keep quoting here. But, 1.1 at 5v puts you squarely in the dark red

zone.

Maybe consider rolling that back to 4.5v, slowing down a bit between draws, and seeing if the protection warning goes away.

Just backed it down and it's working fine. Thanks for the input

Definitely not meaning to offend. You're reminding me of myself. That is my humor because I push everything to the limit. :)

No problem. I'm used to My Hana 30 watt clones and a Sigelei 100 watt. I just ran pretty much the same settings on the istick but it looks like it's a no go. Still happy with it though. I was cringing for a bit thinking I'd have to lug around the bigger devices.

One other poster shared a similar but more severe issue. His 30watter was going into temperature protection chain-vaping at 10W. He RMAed his.

I rebuilt my KFL+ over the weekend to a 1.2Ω, high wattage build to test the 30watter's battery life. I chain-vaped the heck out of it at 23W with no issues whatsoever (except for much reduced battery life). My guess is you have a mediocre solder joint or two in your iStick. Just for giggles, try a 1.6-1.7Ω build and see if you have the same problem at 20W. If your problem clears up, it's a wiring/solder issue that overheats the chipset at the higher current draw for the 1.2Ω build.

I am really liking this 30W iStick. If I were you, I would ask your vendor for an RMA and have them swap it out for you. It's too nice of a device to be limited like that. You're only the second person who's shared the problem with us. So I don't think it's widespread. But China is not known for its amazing quality control.

Good luck!

Somewhere out there
2 days now with my 2 minis and I've very happy with them. I must be maxing them out at 1.3 or 1.4 ohms and 3.7 colts (right about 10W) but they're handling it with no problem. Voltage readout seems spot on with what I'd expect, trying it at lower settings with a carto tank. Cute as the dickens with a erl mini on top.

No need for the high watt versions here, I'm happy with the 20w and mini.

Just wanted to say I got my iStick skin from eBay this weekend and applied it to my device. The skin is advertised for the 20 watt version but since the 20 and 30 watt look almost exactly identical, I figured it should fit pretty well for the most part. The dimensions for the 30 watt is slightly larger according to the Eleaf site. From my own eyes, they look exactly alike and I can't tell a difference. After applying the skin, it does look like there's a slight gap around the edges, so unless I messed up the application or the skin is actually slightly smaller, it does appear that the 30 watt is ever so slightly larger.

This bothers me slightly but I'll still keep it on. So for anyone looking to wrap theirs and buys a 20 watt version of the skin, it could have a little gap.

Good to know, Kyi. I think yours looks pretty darn good tho!

They are really nice. 22 Bucks? wow :?:
I noticed the name. My Cousin has a B&M in Alabama named Mystik Vape. :)

And there's an ECF thread for Mistyx Studio Tips as well. Not glass, but quite lovely.

Is that someone on the forum we know, or is it random stock art person?
