The problem I am having with this ProTank 2 is that when I vape the juice has a burnt taste to it...I think I am going to go back to the store and try to figure out what tank I can use so this does not happen as often.

I've been mostly dripping for the past year, but a month or so ago I decided to try Riptripper's rebuild for Mini Protank coils:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xrvwOf13U-s

The Protank 2 uses the same coil as my Mini Protank 2 (MPT2). I used about a 1.6 - 1.7mm drill bit - slightly smaller than the 5/64 bit he uses in the video. The bit I use fits about perfectly between the wick slots just (actually I use a stainless wire that's about the size of the aforementioned bits). I do 12 wraps using 28 gauge Kanthal wire and use Japanese cotton for wicking. The coils come in at around 1.7 ohm.

I also switched the MPT2's base with a Kanger AFC base (air flow control). The resulting vape is really good - way better than stock. I just got a Lemo, and - at least until I learn the best build for the Lemo - I get better flavor and more dense vapor out of my Mini PT2.

Kanger also sells AFC bases for the full-size Protank2:

Kanger Air Flow control Valve Base Replacements

Anyway, you might try rebuilding the Protank2's coils and getting an AFC base. I'm happy with what it did for my MPT2s. I'm running it side-by-side with my Lemo and right now the MPT2 is the baseline for comparison. I've tried 3 Lemo builds so far - and at this point I think the MPT2 with rebuilt coils and the AFC base is still winning. :)

(Alright, alright. That's partly because I'm used to the rebuilt MPT2 and the Lemo is only days old.)

Well, then, I will do you a solid - since you sent me some gauze -- wouldn't want you to be embarrassed! My husband has made it through 40 years without having to do it! You'd think the things were kryptonite!!!

I STILL have not needed to use the gauze you sent me for rebuilding!! I did finally have ONE coil fizzle out on me. I've saved it and am hoping to get a few more before I do an assembly line rebuild. These things just keep going ....... But since Lynn is so good at rebuilding, I figure I'm gonna send her a big old bag of my dead GSAir coils and some of the best Nicoticket juice as payment, and then just let her knock herself out and mail my coils back to me! Crazy?? Or just possibly crazy enough to work?? :?:

Bring it!!! I'm down on this!!:thumb:

Lemos are easy to build...it's the wicking that's tricky!

Haven't had leaking or dry hit problems. It might in part be that I need to go down on my nic - as I haven't been able to avoid a too-harsh throat hit. I've been doing 12mg since I started vaping, but should have a few bottles of 6mg coming in soon. Been meaning to try to take my nic content down anyway. So far the best build has been the one that came on the Lemo. I'll figure it out eventually. I'm tempted to try the same build as in my MPT2s, but I don't think it would hold enough wick to satisfy Lemo requirements. Hate that I have to drain the tank to try a new build....

I've had a sore throat for the past few days, which has probably contributed to the problem.

At this point I still think that my best vape is with my little A6 drippers. Still a bit tight on the draw even though they've been drilled out and still a little humbug to drip constantly, but still the most flavorful.

The easiest way for me to build the lemo is use a 6-32 machine screw for a mandrel. The threads keep the spacing even, and the size is large enough that you can't choke the juice flow by over packing the wick. In fact I don't think you can over pack the wick. Just don't deform the coil.
Try increasing the wattage to get rid of the harsh hits. It sounds counter intuitive but it works. Something about the juice burning before it flashes of the coil.

Will do. Thanks for the tips! Just vaped my tank dry so upping the watts will have to wait until tomorrow. Now I don't know whether to try this build again or to put the old original coil back in as I had planned.

What is the ID of a 6/32 machine screw and what size wire do you use? So far the stock spaced coil has worked best, but it's slow on first fire. Not too bad after that.

To wrap the wire with even spaces...........................

..I think you meant OD unless you were talkin about where the wire would seat in the lowest part of the thread which would still be an OD. :) picky

On the Lemo, has anyone tried a twisted coil? I did a twisted wire coil in my Reo last weekend and loved the flavor! I need to dry burn and rewick my Lemo Drop so I'm thinking of building a twisted coil for it this weekend.

You go "twisted sister" ;) And I am back on track Lynn if you would still like me to fix that istick for you. :)
