The most exhaustive studies on tobacco have been carried out by Big Tobacco themselves. RJR knows more about this reviled nightshade than most. Does anyone think that BT will truthfully share everything they know? In fact, the US government knows more about tobacco than is popularly discussed. Have any governmental agencies that are so fond of taxing the hell out of tobacco used proceeds to thoroughly study all of its effects?
Has the almost one TRILLION dollar pharmaceutical industry conducted thorough research into tobacco? I don't actually know about big pharma's involvement on the subject. Since they can't patent natural alkaloids, I can't imagine them sharing what they have learned however.
Knowing all the how's and why's of tobacco would be of great benefit to far more than tobacco users. One might think that this much hated plant mother nature has created, around which hundreds of billions of dollars flows, would be far more thoroughly researched. Perhaps the research has been done. The fruits of said research has not been popularly disseminated nor easily discoverable with a thorough web search however.
Perhaps we should demand answers to these and other questions before governments demand further taxation on "tobacco products".
Elected representatives' primary reason for being is to serve their constituents not further tax our already dwindling incomes.
Does the great tobacco conspiracy of the last 30-40 years involve more than simply Big Tobacco companies?
Sorry to ask so many questions on a beautiful Sunday morning. I hope everyone can get outside and start restoring their vitamin D reserves.
