Remember the Ovale V8 mod (and its various clones)? That variable-voltage box mod---curvy though it is, it's still a box, not a tube---came out just before the PWM discussions around the Young-June Lavatubes and other VVs of that time came to a head. Some posters on ECF ooh'd and aah'd about what a hard hitter the Ovale was. Later it turned out that the Ovale didn't really hit hard at all, it was just that the voltage delivered was considerably higher than the voltage displayed. Same with all those PWM devices whose displays were calibrated to Vavg rather than Vrms.

I still have three of those. Mine are all dirt-cheap clones purchased near the end of the mod's run. One sits (rocks, actually, since the bottom isn't flat) on my desk, with the other two upstairs on my bedside table, topped with clearos. I don't mind that their displays are inaccurate, as I'm not a low-wattage vaper---I vape mostly in the 9-15 watt range, depending on the resistance of the coils being heated. I just mentally account for the inaccuracy and adjust the voltage down accordingly. 4.3 volts on a ProVari is roughly equivalent to 3.8 volts on an Ovale.

I feel that we're revisiting that whole PWM thing with the istick, and I imagine that I'll like mine when it arrives from VapeNW today or tomorrow, inaccuracies and all. As we learned, even the vaunted ProVari uses PWM, but it's all about post-pulse smoothing algorithms, which the ProVari does brilliantly, while the iStick smooths very little, if any. But what the heck, the iStick is 35 bucks, not 160. I didn't buy one for its technological sophistication, just the cheap price and small size, and the fact that I don't need a 100-150 watt monster. As other posters have stated, if for some reason I don't like the iStick, it won't be the first time I've blown $35 on vaping gear. Or the 50th. LOL.

Strange that Aspire doesn't offer Anything Higher than 1.8Ohm.
I posed this question just now on the Aspire forums (such that they are). Most everything else is 2.0+ so I have no explanation.

Guess they are Caught Up in this "All Vapers want Mega Watts" Craze that seems to be Sweeping the Market Right Now.
Yep. The Niagara Falls turbines are spinning on overtime these days. :)

Great Post!!!

I wouldn't even mind that much if I could actually use the thing with my regular toppers. As it is, I'll probably just use BDC clearos to compensate, and just have a few clearos in iStick rotation.

BTW, I just got back from a quick vape. I used a 3.7V EVOD 650 mAh and an EVOD clearo at 2.5 ohm using 50/50 18 mg/ml Ahllusion Contrary Cherry. Sublimely delicious vape. Unfortunately, I can't run that clearo/liquid/coil on my iStick since even at 3.0 volts indicated, it tastes like crap.

LWV -> IStick not good. MWV, HWV -> iStick GREAT!!!

:)

I never was very good at math:laugh: On a serious note a lot of that type of stuff goes over my head...that's why I appreciate those like PBusardo that do in depth testing/reviews and put the information into terms I can understand. There is no vaping product on the market that is for everyone. Genesis atomizers...I tried and tried and tried to become efficient at building them...but although I got by for awhile just never got the real hang of it. I have many friends that still swear to this day it's the best vape out there.

If Aspire would come out with 2.2-2.5 ohm BVC's I'd buy a bushel of iSticks. (And no... I ain't buildin' my own. :D)

2.1 ohm won't do it for ya? They're out there.

That's OK Iowa Gal, it isn't important to know why (except for some of us). Phill will report what he finds for us techies, and simplify it down as a recommendation for the masses.

I'm pretty sure I'll be able to use my isticks with BDC clearos, albiet with a stronger vape than I usually get.

I am a scientist (molecular biologist), so I'm driven to understand "why". I also have the ability to understand electrical things (was a tinkerer back in the day), so I'm driven by that too.

I also have the need to know why my mods all are substantially the same at 3.7 volts, but this one is different. After reading here, I got quite concerned I had a bad pair of iSticks. If they had been, I would have exchanged them and all would be great. But, if it is in the design, then exchanging them is pointless.

Does that make aby sense?

Vape Happy!!!

pcrdude I totally understand where you are coming from trying to understand if it's the nature of the mod or a problem mod. I just don't have much to say in regards to the technical issues...my brain just doesn't work that way:laugh: I do however know what works for me and what doesn't and that everyone is different. The great thing about many of advance we've seen in the past year is there really should be something out there for everyone, sometimes it's just a struggle to find it.

ON ebay, the istick is for pre-order for $31 bucks.
But at eleafus.com their $49 out the door in stock.
I saw some reviews on the istick.

Won't fire anything under 1.0 ohms, but for most people with tanks, that's not a big issue.
Also the higher the ohms', the lower voltage/watts it will put out due to higher resistance. (but not by much).

All in all, i think this is going to be something i'm going to have to purchase...it's just ergonomically wise, much better looking
or should i say looks very palm friendly,
Rounded corners, button high up on device for easy firing. This looks like a real winner. :vapor:
