FDA Miscalculates Real Danger to Smokers
by Kristin Noll-Marsh, Associated Content

The FDA is at a loss.

It knows why people want to quit smoking tobacco cigarettes - exposure to first and second hand smoke is proven to cause numerous health problems, from heart disease to cancer.

Up until now, the only way thought to quit smoking was to cure nicotine addiction. Beat the nicotine cravings, beat the urge to smoke - or so the theory goes. Consequently, the term "smoking cessation" has become synonymous with curing nicotine addiction with the use of Nicotine Replacement Therapies or NRTs.

Thanks Volcalek! Even more importantly, link to it from other sources - your Twitter, Digg, facebook, blog, etc....Google gives higher ranking to articles with lots of links to them. I know a lot of people missed this the first time around - it's not getting the same exposure as the first article.

Thanks!

Working on the next one...

While the article is great in general, it is very irresponsible to call 1% concentrations "traces" of diethylene glycol since the LD50 lies between 0.2% and 2.5%, and that is based on tests on laboratory animals. It's commonly believed that human beings are far more sensitive to diethylene glycol poisoning.

The legally allowable amount of diethylene glycol in foodstuffs is 0.2%. It is far more dangerous when inhaled than ingested orally, particularly as airway management is one of the challenges when dealing with diethylene glycol poisoning. We can only hope that the one cartridge they got a hold of is an anomaly since regular vaping of any substance containing 1% diethylene glycol WILL kill you and will do so far more quickly than cigarettes will.
