So amongst all this negative press and propaganda going around in regards to e cigs my wife comes home tonight and informs me that her dad, who is a doctor, told her how awful e cigs are for you "because of all the bad articles he's been reading" Well I lost it.....I made the point to her how so many of these article's claims are completely unsubstantiated and at worst outright lies. I also mentioned all the research that has been done that contradicts many of these claims. Anyways looking to see if someone can direct me to some place that has a compilation of much of the research that has been done to date. Any comments are much appreciated.

I know right. I hit anger level 10 over that. Straight up told her that her father is an idiot and should be ashamed to call himself a doctor. The part that bothers me most is the point Ed made...any doctor that makes broad sweeping claims off of news articles and not actual research is outrageous. I'm diligently working on compiling research to have my wife email her dad. This aggression can not stand man...well f it lets go bowling dude.

The Ultimate List of E-Cig Studies: Are E-Cigs Actually Safe? *Updated 2/16/14 » onVaping

So what do all these studies mean?
The papers compiled above indicates that while nothing is better than breathing clean air, the vapor derived of e-juice in e-cigarette devices is magnitudes safer than analog cigarette smoke (as well as safer than air pollution in large cities). Regarding the research on second-hand vapor, some scientists and health experts conclude that there is no real need for concern. And as far as the question about the actual effectiveness of e cigs as smoking cessation devices, the studies indicate that e-cigarettes are at least as effective as nicotine patches.

UGH. enraged indeed ... i get more and more outraged about this every fecking day. People are so damm stupid - they blindly believe anydamthing they hear and are too fecking LAZY to do any kind of actual research and get the facts. A supposedly educated person such as a doctor should indeed have the brains and cognitive ability to know better than to just believe everything they 'hear'.

Give the following information to Dr. Dad.

- comparison of e-juice with the Nicorette Quick Mist inhaler. Article shows that e-juice contains the SAME ingredients as this FDA Approved inhaler, recommended by doctors to be used for NRT smoking cessation. And in fact, what is in the inhaler contains MORE CHEMICALS, that are potentially MORE dangerous, than what is in e-juice. There is a link in the article to the Nicorette Quick Mist manufacturer's page also, in case anyone wants to get pissy about the ingredients list in the article not looking "official".
Electronic Cigarettes vs. Nicorette Quickmist » The Electronic Cigarette Buyers Guide

And here is a list of studies done by reputable places that doctors will recognize and respect - Oxford, the Onassis Cardiac Surgery Center, Dr. Gilbert Ross (medical director and executive director of the American Council on Science and Health), The International Journal of Environmental Research and Public Health, European Society of Cardiology, and Drexel University School of Public Health..... et al. This online article also has live links to the actual studies themselves - again in case anyone wants to get pissy about it being 'hearsay'.

Doctors are either the best place, or the worst place to get an opinion on ecigs. The doctors who look into it for themselves seem to amost always think it's a much better alternative to cigs. The rest are like your wifes father, believe whatever the authority figures say,which leaves them ignorant on the subject. The bad part is the ignorant ones have sway with people.

Lol. He lives in a different state. I'm going to have a discussion with him the next time he is in town though. The more I think about it the more it makes sense...both his parents were hardcore smokers and both died from cancer. He loathes cig smoke and smokers. As does my wife. I think it comes down to the fact that many people see it as smoking. Just the visual vapor you blow out shocks big time anti smoking people.

That's hearsay.

Funny thing about hearsay;
somebody tells you somebody said something;

then when you go to that other somebody and hear what they say, it can sound a whole lot different.
