Ok, so this isn't directly pipe related but I think you guys might be able to accept this better than other places I frequent.
I have to admit it. I'm a mellow vaper. I feel like that almost has to be a confession or something.
I mean ... I finally got my mech mod combo in today and ... it just isn't that special. It is a decent one. Atmizoo Roller + a Cobra atomizer (for $80 including shipping, so a full dual-wick mech mod combo for just over $200). I have another $250 mech mod coming in this summer (14500 bulldog + arrow atomizer) and at this rate I may well just auction those puppies off on Facebook to recoup their costs.
I spent the afternoon with the typical "make it mine" routine. Wash the atomizer (tons of old juice in the isolator post from the prior owner, o rings smelled like old juice, etc). Torch the safe things to torch (the lid of the Cobra ... purty blue/purple, the middle tube of the atmizoo ... not so purty but easy and cheap to replace).
Then I built a nicely working parallel dual 5/6 wick 30 gauge kanthal that clocked in at .8 ohm (due to being parallel) ... my first subohm attempt and pretty damned successful. No hotspots. Wicks doing their job like champs. I was STOKED to see those 2 coils heating up perfectly on the Roller.
And?
Eh. Too burnt. So I undid one of the wicks and came out with a perfect 1.55ohm 5/6 coil. Vapes fine AND works on all of my mods. But not really any better than my LavaGens. Luckily the Cobra didn't cost any more than a LavaGen since it was used and I DO like the titanium.
And?
Damned thing STILL tastes better at on my ePipes by a slight amount than it does on my mech mod. The mech just burns too hard at the head of the vape. Pretty much the same results with my LavaGens ... I like them better on the ePipes.
This isn't about some magic in the ePipes. I can mimic the taste (and even slightly improve it) by fiddling with the Cobra and the LavaGens on my SID (cheap VV/VW mod stick from China). It means ... :gasp: ... I'm not seeing a big need for the mech mod.
Maybe ... I need to change batteries to ones that don't hit quite so hard a first on the mech mod? But then ... why buy the mech mod?
Maybe I'm using the wrong juices for the mech mod. I vaped 100% VG "Standard" juices tonight (I finally got some Frankenvape and Irie Nights) and maybe I need to cut them with a bit more with water to thin them for the initial hard hit. I'll play with some Pipe Sauce later to test that along with some of my DIY juices. I won't go to PG though, even in minority.
Maybe I'm still doing something wrong ... hints welcome. I'll probably try a U-wick in a couple of weeks except ... U-wicks seem to mostly be about consistent wicking and this thing wicks just fine with a -single- wick and all of the airholes screwed down closed.
I LOVE a good throat hit and tons of vapor. But I can do that with gennies on a non-mech mod just fine.
I admit it. I'm just not as hard core as some. I thought I would be.
hah.
I think I just prefer a mellow -consistent- vape but strong juices.
(another confession: I also grabbed a cigar this week ... was craving a real cigar ... unfortunately it turned out to be a terrible brand and I'm cured of THAT for awhile)
... Anyway, I'm out of town all of next week. Will have mobile data but not using it much. Whirlwind tour of Texas, OKC, St. Louis. Hmm, perhaps "whirlwind" is the wrong way to phrase that particular route right now. Have a good one
... Any good shops in those areas I should peruse?
PS. If you like sweet-but-complex flavors ... I'm liking 6mg Irie Nights a good bit. Going to kick it with a little extra flavor but it is nice. Frankenvape I'm not yet a fan of BUT I only found 0% and I need to add my 6mg into it before I decide. I might also add some honey extract to the Frankenvape. However I still really need to find a tobacco that tastes like aged cigar tobacco and not some green plant that got put into a distiller. Then I'll be happy.
