I hope vaping on brass directly like that is safe. Im know Matt is big into safety so I feel confident but Im also gonna do some research on the subject. Not sure there is much out there though that is truly factual. Anyone have any expertise with brass and some thoughts? I plan to not let it sit very long with juice in it. Im surprised it isnt sealed with something though. Was kinda hoping the inside would be SS or something on the inside deck.

I have no experience in the matter.... I have been reading around since you have posted and there is some in depth stuff about it out there.

Its hard to believe that matt would miss something like that! He is definitely all about safety. Which is one of the big reasons why epipes and zens are all I vape!

The thing that makes brass unsafe is lead. Food safe brass (and MOST modern brass) doesn't contain lead.

The rest of the ingredients are Copper and Zinc, both of which are inherently safe (sometimes there are other metals used, too, but copper and zinc are the big ones).

If Matt can get the industrial number for the brass used we can be 100% certain, but these days most new brass contains no lead to begin with so it is not hard to source food safe brass. The problems with brass were many years ago when lead was common in many alloys.

Don't go licking antique brass doorknobs :) But new doorknobs should be safe.

I have found that certain pipes will have the occasional misfire (couple times a day). not sure why this happens but sometimes I gotta press again for it to vape. I would say that is fairly normal. If your pipe is misfiring every other press, or even near that amount, there is probably something wrong and it is fixable.

Dang, and here I just thought I was nuts and about 5% of the time I wasn't quite pressing the button right. Or thought maybe I was shorting but every time I check the pipe is very clean.

Vapesafe2 issue maybe?

Over the Richmond bridge, into Nor Cal officially and up the 101

It is amazing...once your clear the bay and hit the 101 the whole world changes. The pace mellows, the vibe sweetens, life just feels better, and the landscape immediately becomes beauty. Next stop should be some LBL in the redwoods

oh...enter Johnny cash Sunday gospel selections :)

This is the same info I have found on brass. Keep in mind that the water in your house (both hot and cold) runs through several brass fittings and fixtures. The FDA stance on brass is that it is non toxic and suitable for contact with consumables. Brass is also used in marine applications for its resistance to oxidization. I believe it is safe, If some one believes otherwise, simply don't buy the atty. Oh not that is matters much but the ID of the top portion of the atty is an SS tube.

Back to the misfires, I believe it has to do with the magnets and mechanics of the button. Everything else is solid and should have no conductivity issues. The button however has free floating magnets that move and make electrical contact at the same time. In my mind this has to be the source of the occasional misfire. I don't see a need to rework the button though since the misfires are minimal. Most of the switches I have used and tried on many different devices will have the occasional misfire, even the pre-manufactured anti-vandal switch's for the USBaux (@$5 a piece BTW) will misfire a couple times here and there.

For me the choice to switch to primarily RBAs was from the reports of cleaner flavor. Between my gennies and silica RBAs this has rung true for me. Of the ones I have, my GG Penelope is my everyday go to as it is a tank system that I can vape on the go when necessary. So between the cleaner flavor and the longer lifespan making the switch was an easy decision for me. Add the sleeker aesthetic most RBAs have on a pipe, and the decision became a no brainer.

Matt.... speaking of the brass atty, what are you using to cover the threads on this corn pipe?
Some type of rubber sleeve?

Sorry for bringing up a past picture but, my curiosity has peaked.

Im curious what it is also. My guess would be one of the bite covers for the pipe stems. Cant tell for sure but it kinda looks like it.

Hope I didnt insult you with the brass safe talk Matt, I was just curious what the thoughts were on it. I wanted it and bought it and gonna vape it like I stole it! Your and Jahfs explanations sound good enough to me :)

Blackout "us time" for Jerome and I as we do church via worship songs we played bass on a yet or two ago...and on into Northern Mendocino County. Neil Young and Crazy Horse Live with special guest Booker T. And the ole LBL as we enter Willits, self proclaimed "Gateway to the Redwoods." A subtly trippy town where .... meet herb meets antiques. Many weird experiences here in past, including getting herb passes to us from 2 broads at 60 mph...and another time picking up 2 pseudo hippie little filthies and pillaging them all the way up to Eugene back in 94. But I have said too much. Some bad photos, sorry...

No apology necessary. It's a good question. Especially with aluminum parts growing that weird fungi on them 8-o.
What the :censored: is that?
There is a lot of back and forth on the subject so I did a lot of research on brass so I could make a decision for myself :matrix:
I have been vaping from brass atties and tanks for over a year now and had now problems or mystery fungi. I don't really even thoroughly clean the brass when i go to rebuild. just a simple rinse and I can keep that tarnished antique look.
When it's all said and done i think it's all good. :thumb:
I appreciate any good safety questions.
:toast:

Laytonville, by far my favorite town in Mendocino Counry. Far north Mendie, almost to Humboldt county line. Some of the mist diwn to earth people you will ever meet...and a tiwn known to a select few to prosper in MJ some say superior in the mellow, old school sense to anything coming from its Northern neighbors if you are into that sort of thing, which BJ forsook long ago. Jerome napping peacefully beneath the redwoods beside a stream

Since the word is out already...
Yes Mike (zen) and I are collaborating on a pipe. There are a lot of ideas being kicked around, in my head anyway. I'm sure Mike is got some B.A. Stuff brewing up himself. I hope to send some initial design ideas his way in the next few weeks. The r&d process on this should take some time so I don't foresee anything hitting the market until close to Christmas, maybe a bit sooner.

I can tell you right now that something like that would be my unicorn. I still haven't found anything I like more than a genesis vape, and the combination of that with the pipe form while also remaining a hybrid is just awesome!
