Not trying to drag up drama again but we were contacted by the modder (we will not mention) responsible for the removal of the VapeSafes in our pipes. In order to be transparent in our dealings with him and our customers on this issue, I have decided that it would be wise to make our response to him public.

here goes-

People used to say that lifp04 3.0 batteries were safe- they were wrong and bad things happened.
People used to say stacked battery mods were safe- they were wrong and bad things happened
People used to say that lion protected cells were safe- they were wrong and bad things happened
People used to say that Limn high drain batteries were safe- they were wrong and bad things happened.
People used to say that Lipoly cell packs were safe- they were wrong and bad things happened.

All that said-
Companies like mine, and in direct reference to sub ohm coils, House of Hybrids (Zen), understand and recognize the dangers in the products we sell. Beyond that, both of our companies install safety devices that help to prevent bad things from happening. We also go to great lengths to educate the often uneducated or misinformed consumer as to what is "safe". There are way too many newbs out there that are not educated enough to avoid very dangerous situations.

I have done extensive testing and research on multiple battery types, as well as the mechanical and electrical design specs of each and every design we produce. By doing so I have determined the "safe operating parameters" for our devices. Tampering with our devices in order to use them outside the safe operating parameters is not advisable and must be publicly announced as dangerous.

Sub ohm coils are dangerous and unnecessary. With each drop of a fraction of an ohm you are drastically increasing the amps. Most batteries are not capable of safely handling these current levels. Unless you are certain of the manufacturer, the true C rating of your batteries, and the current draw of your coil, you risk drawing too much current. The result of drawing too much current from a cell is thermal runaway, venting, and possible explosion. Resistance below 1 ohm is essentially a short circuit, which is the primary cause of thermal runaway. These sub ohm coils should not be used on our pipes, especially considering the switch design (see below). But again many people are uneducated on mechanical and electronic safety in mods.

If you did not read my ECF post about pipe switch designs and the mechanical nature of pipe switch's here it is-

I hope you can see that our pipes are not a suitable mechanical design to use at the already risky sub ohm level.

As a vendor you should realize that by encouraging people to use unsafe and unprotected devices, you are not only acting irresponsibly and putting your customers in harms way, you are freely inviting a serious lawsuit. It would be in your best interest to stop these practices. Please understand, i hold no ill will towards you, I am just offering a friendly bit of ... covering business advice.

It is NOT my business to tell you how to run your business. However, if you continue to remove the safety devices from our pipes, it puts our company in a position to warn our customers against doing it. We also must state that by removing the VapeSafe it will void the warranty. In addition we are not responsible for damages that may occur. It is not personal, it is just what our company needs to do to cover our ... and feel that we have done the responsible thing.

This message will be publicly posted on our ECF and FaceBook threads in order to further educate our customers on this topic. Your name and company will not be mentioned.

Matt,

If you haven't already you need to consult a legit products liability attorney about this and other issues ASAP. You gotta stay ahead of this stuff.

Never been involved in a race for a pipe...yet...but just know that when OS X Mavericks drops this fall, iCloud Keychain is gonna leave ya'll in the dust!

;) There are other solutions already out there. I just haven't had to bust out the tools yet.

Yeah, I know. I'm just really excited for it to be available. I'm deeper into the Apple ecosystem than John Holmes is into Linda Lovelace's throat, and every year they integrate iOS and OS X more and more. Having all your "stuff" work together seamlessly is just...nice.

I'm not giving away any secrets in here.. ;)

I thought about that right after I posted it, but then figured, "What the Hell...People are probably already using 1Password (or some equivalent) anyway."

I have given them away to a few people...as they were so freely given to me. I am a very greedy and selfish person so it takes work to practice such principles. In the end, I want as many as possible to realize the sheer joy and EPM original can bring. As for battles such as I will partake with great vengeance and furious anger on Friday...well...you know what I say...

"The pipe chooses the man..."

By the way, I've been following the discussion over the last few pages and just have to say...

Matt, your product is fabulous.

Your customer service is spectacular.

Those two services are enough for anyone to have that will make me a fan.

But your attitude towards safety is exemplary. That's something I can really really appreciate. (It's not just a screen name!)

So...

Agreed. For those who don't know, Matt was one of the driving forces behind the VapeSafe.

I know most "power" vapers aren't even bothering with them, but for the rest it is great to have a simple product like that available.

While we are all washing up Matteo's huevos...

I have played with a few pipes in my day (no offense). Some most excellent, some not so. In addition to the vapesafe, another thing that sets the EPM's above the rest is the 2.5 button. Not just the flip/off mode, which is super cool, and the move away from the spring. The whole click in the rim button design is unique to EPM and it is by far the most comfortable, ergonomic, and cool button out there in the epipe market, period. Conversions of analog pipes can't match it and even the best custom guys out there haven't done something like this. I didn;t remember this myself until I started playing with a new epipe I got today and had to cave my thumb in like 2 feet to engage the mamma jamma. I missed the snappy button and the short engage I have grown to take for granted on my EPM's. Yeah, as i do more and more research (that is what us intellectual, liberal, Californians call it instead of OBSESSIVENESS) Matt's innovations have changed things...and some of them, like the V2.5 button system, separate EPM from the field.

Don't take this the wrong way BJ and it's not just this post, but the terms that we throw around so freely can often look quite awkward. Especially when taken out of context.
It reminds me of Tobias Funke - the Analrapist from Arrested Development. Which is a most hilarious show if your not familiar. They actually have a new rebooted season on Netflix :) Tobias goes to the "Method One Clinic" thinking it's an acting clinic.... It's a must see show.

I am constantly complementing Cheryl from Cherry Vape on her excellent "tips".... You just gotta put your lips around those babies :)

Sweet, you'll have fun. There is more to learn in photography than you could possibly imagine. Doesnt the T4i have any wireless connectivity? I dont know. I decided to be happy with what I got in the photography world and learn to use it. I have not thought about upgrading for a while now. So a bit out of the loop on new stuff.

Im telling you and I cant stress enough you MUST get a Rapid Strap or similar. The bane of my camera was how uncomfortable the stock strap was and how it would never stay put. Always felt like it was slipping and moving. If you have it on the back of your neck all day you will be miserable unless maybe you are a real photographer and built a tolerance for it. Rapid Straps changed my picture taking life. Best piece of photo equipment Ive ever owned, by FAR.

If you do get the Canon let me know and Ill send you what is referred to by Canon enthusiasts as the "Nifty Fifty" and regarded as the best value to lens ratio in the industry. It still is what it is though, the bottom of the line. Its famous for taking some stunning photos though in the right hands and beginners love it because it works in low light (its fast glass) and it get lots of Bokeh, although not the best by any means.

This is the RS7, I got the sport 2 but they are similar.

Strap purchased, now to get the camera :thumb:

Hmmmmmm....

I am not sure how to take it, coming from another dude. It certainly didn't feel awkward coming out. I guess if I am not careful I could get slapped around a bit, and things could get messy.
