This may be a stupid question but with anticipating buying my first pipe Friday, I want to get an idea on weight. I really like the woods but I also like the colored ones, I assume is a mix of acrylic and wood or maybe something else? Do these materials make a huge difference in weight if the pipe bowl?

The smaller 18350 pipes are pretty light. The 18500 are a heavier, which i prefer. But since i got the tatroe tank, its added alot of weight to the 18350 gandalf. It feels real nice in my hand now...

Im not sure about the acrylics. i have a half acrylic half wood, i cant really tell if there is a weight difference.

Thanks! Yeah, I meant the acrylic/wood combo. Those are sweet! Now one last question, well hopefully :). Straight shank or angled shank, is there a benefit to one over the other or is it just preference and difference in looks? I tend to like the looks of the angled shanks.

Ok I lied, one more....

Anyone have a picture of an 18500 pipe in the hand just for size reference?

Well, actually an old show started in the 60's that has survived (off and on) to today - Doctor Who.

Sometimes sarcasm is hard to make obvious in text. I'm usually pretty good at it, but fell short this time. Apologies.

I have a couple of friends who are decades long hardcore "Who" fans. I say that to them once in a while just to get a rise out of them.

Ooh, I like that one too boccman! You have some sweet pipes! I am really liking the gandalf! Good to know dirquist, yeah that would be awesome to see two of the same side by side.

I am loving the blue and wood elemental that have on the site but I think I am going to try and stick with a $125 or so price tag first to make sure we like it. Then I am sure we will be hooked!

Bocc ... if you like metal, look for a titanium tank. I don't know if I've seen a "slim" titanium but if you find it the titanium can torch to a gorgeous purple. Stainless can get sort of iridescent purple but to get it you have to go so hot that it can overtorch the steel. Titanium purple can be amazing.

I have a Cobra (the "real" cobra, not the chinese rip), which has a titanium cap, that I used my wife's jewelry torch on. I'll try and get a good picture of the color tomorrow. It isn't perfect because I didn't want to overdo it with the torch but it will give you an idea of the purple color. It is by far my favorite atomizer for looks (with a cobalt blue tank) but too big for a smaller pipe.

I bought a used kiln recently for controlled "torching" to get more exact colors but I don't have a 220v socket for it so will be a bit before I can get it set up. However if I do get it going I'll be happy to do some coloring for people if the temp control is still accurate. If the control is accurate I'll be able to oxidize titanium and stainless both to their prettiest ... though I like the randomness of the torch (vs. kiln) on some things. Of course, I've also ruined a piece of stainless with the torch, too, as I didn't realize how thin the tube on my telescope mod was. But titanium handles it better.
