Okay, First let me say I'm sorry for posting here, but the PIF group is the nicest one I know and I can't get good answers for my questions about equipment. Now, I own a Joye 510 manual. I get the basics of the parts, but I am wondering what is the difference between what I have and a
901?
801?
KR808D?

and also,

what is a drip tip?
how would you use it?
What is a pass through?
and how would yo use it?

I really have looked for BASIC answers else where and I just don't understand. I want to try new equipment and I see pass throughs and drip tips offered in here, but I don't want to claim something or buy something unless I understand it.

there should be a youtube video for this.... :)

any help would be great and thanks PIF, nicest group on the ECF!!

just different connections types, everyone has their own favorite but it seems most people prefer the 510 (including me)

drip tip, it is a open ended tip that goes on your atomizer. think of your cartridge with a big hole in the end of the mouthpiece. this is so you can drip drops of juice, from a bottle, through it, onto the atomizer, without having to take it off.

passthrough is basically your battery with a permanent cord on the end that goes to a USB connector. you plug it into your pc or any powered usb hub and can vape with constant power and not have to use a batter (very nice thing to have)

Ok, here is MY TAKE on this - knowing that I'm pretty new, insert disclaimer here, dont' vape with a passthrough in the bathtub, blah blah.

901 - this is the kit I started with, similar to the 510, people seem to think it provides less throat hit and more flavor than the 510. In the past I think 510 was more commonly available in manual where the 901 was an auto battery - now you can get either in both.

801 - this was also called a pen style, it's a neat little e-cig. Big advantage that I see is big cartridges compared to the 510 and 901's puny little cartridges. They don't seem very popular but I dunno why. I just got one of these in a pif thread somewhere else and gave it away to a friend as her first pv - if it doesn't work for her I'll get it back and I'll play with it some then.

KR808D - the most popular 2 piece currently. I initially ignored these because the idea of replacing the atomizer and cartridge didn't appeal to me at first but this is now my hands down favorite setup. The cartomizers hold a lot of liquid, last a long time, and are dirt cheap to buy. I don't mind tossing out a cartomizer when the draw gets hard since they're like....$1 each.

Drip tip - many people prefer the fuller flavor of dropping juice directly on their atomizer, pulling off the cartridge each time is a pain in the ...., drip tips allow you to drip without the hassles. It's not a 'gotta have" item for drippers if your really on a budget but it's like having a car with air conditioning. No, not needed really - but a luxury well worth it. These used to be quite expensive but you can get nice ones for pretty cheap now.

Passthrough - battery life sucks until you get a mod of some type. A passthrough is a way to use usb power to fire up your attie. You can get them with a battery inline for 3.7v (same as your vaping with a regular battery) or without a battery for 5v. This is nice if you sit in front of a computer all day or want to try vaping 5v on the cheap. It can also work as a cheap all day everyday setup with a usb battery pack like the apc upb10.

Personally, I like the flavor of 5volts, and the convenience of cartos. In front of my pc I use a passthrough, out and about I use a 5v box mod. I don't care what it looks like, I'm in it for the flavor - I'm done with my nic addiction, now I'm using tasty juice to try to alleviate my incessant snacking.

I hope this helps - it's one person's opinion.

You'd have to buy a new PV that can run at higher voltage. The best you can do with your 510 is buy low resistance attys which simulate HV vaping.

Here's a list of mods that will vape at higher voltages.

Again, I suggest you read those wonderful world of vaping threads I linked you to earlier. They are long, but you will be well versed in the current state of vaping hardware and options by the time you finish them.

If you want a more powerful 510 then I suggest you try the eGo/Tornado/Riva. Puresmoker has the eGo kits for $50 right now. With that kit you get 2 complete sets so it's not a bad deal. They have a pretty high mAh rating so depending on how much you vape, the battery should last you a while. Much longer than your average 510. It's bigger than the regular 510 battery, but it's not as big as 99% of the mods on the market.

Agreed! I was so anti-bigger battery...but I am so in love with my eGo right now it's scary! One battery lasts me pretty much all day long and now that I have the cartomizer issue worked out, it's just PERFECT! I don't think I can go back to 3.2v 510 batteries ever again! And while I still love my 3.7v green box mod, this eGo is dead sexy to look at and a much smaller 3.7v device to carry around. ;)

Oh wow, is this the truth or is this the truth? Though I just ordered my first BIG mod today (The Buzz) so I'm sure I'll have something else to talk about.

The cheapest way to see if you like 5V is a pass-through. Attach it to a plug in the wall (called a wall-wart "(AC to USB adapter)") Some computers don't really put out 5V on their USB ports.

Madvapes has very good, inexpensive wall warts.

Lemme see if I can find the link.

Here ya go: USB Passthroughs

Pass-through and wall wart.
