I`m not a Doctor, but have been through several bike accidents and have had more than my fair share of surgery.

Thinking about this logically.. the only reason you would throw up (vomit) blood is that there is excess blood in your intestine?

That would mean you have internal bleeding into the stomach cavity from some where?

Which would point to a gastric ulcer or a rupture such as Hiatus Hernia.

An ulcer can be exerbated by extra stress (such as giving up smoking) or a stressfull lifestyle coupled with the above.

If you were prone to ulcers you may have increased the possibility of this by giving up smoking and started vaping.

There might be more serious underlying conditions so please see your Doctor/GP or medic.

On a more positive note here is a little story:

I was out riding my m/cycle one evening with my girl on the back, we hit a hard corner and we both came off, just a slide and we continued to the party :D
A good time was had and we rode back but in the morning when I wanted a piss/wee/whizz (whatever you call it) i noticed I was pissing blood! Not good :?:
So got on the bike and rode to the Hospital and got checked out.

I was in for two days while they scanned and scanned again and found nothing, all this time I was pissing blood and it was starting to clot! The lumps were getting hard to pass through my .... and it felt like I was passing ball bearings!!!
It eased off and I was sent home being asked to piss into a container and keep notes!

I did :) " Big clots" "smaller clots" "some clots and the colour is better" "Yikes..that was a bugger" ....you get the picture.
In the end after three more days it passed and the verdict was.....

During the bike crash my handlebars twisted and dug into my stomach and simply bruised a kidney, this bled and filled my urine with blood, the blood clotted and was passed. I felt absolutely no illl effects apart from the worrying about the biggest impact for me was to try to piss without the pain of clots or blood red urine.

I could have been worse and I might have done some damage, but I didn`t........ but I did get it checked out!

You my friend get it checked out :)

It might be something about nothing but at least you will know, and be able to sleep because it`s obviously worrying you.

G`luck.

Oh dear....don't ever look your symptoms up on the interwebs. You'll go in with a hang nail and come out believing you have cancer of the ovaries (and you're a dude!) ;)

Thoughts and well wishes coming your way. Don't freak out just yet. Coughing up blood is definitely a disconcerting thing, but there are many fixable reasons it could be happening. *big hugs*

I know this doesn't sound like much to grab onto but if you were in the ER on Sunday... and you don't have an appointment with a GI specialist until Friday... and the procedure (presumably a 'scope exam) isn't going to happen till some time after that...

If it was something really serious you would have never left the hospital, gone straight from the ER to admitting, and had a procedure or an operation done immediately. At least in any competent ER that spotted something so bad that immediate intervention was in order.

The not knowing really sucks. Here's hoping for the best. Horking blood for any reason is scary.

Everybody go do that send out good vibes mojo thing of your particular persuasion now.

By any chance did you eat beets on Saturday? I realize your issue was the vomiting, but I'll share this little story with you.

Went for dinner at a friend's house a few years ago (they always make great fresh stuff), and a selection of roasted beets was one of the side dishes. I'm not a big beet fan, but these were delicious. The next morning I stagger sleepy-headed out of bed to the bathroom for a pee. As I turned around to flush, the bowl looked like I had had a major haemorage - blood red! I freaked out, thinking that I must have some dreaded disease - then I remembered the beets!

In any case, sending positive energy your way.

Here's a little story for you.

I awoke one morning as usual and began taking my morning shower. I began to feel nauseous and then immediately began projectile vomiting while still in the shower. The vomit was blood red in color. My mind began racing at this point, thinking I had ruptured something internally and would never make it to the hospital in time..........That's when I remembered the leftover chili I had for supper the night before. The chili was apparently beyond its prime. After rejecting it, I felt fine.

I hope your ailment is this simple.

Sorry been gone a while. It was acid reflux that I didn't feel(weird)and Barretts Esophagus. The BE is a precancerous condition but I just have to take Prevacid everyday and get scoped every 3 years instead of 5. Tumor was one of the 4 things the doc thought it would be. I had had severe nausea coming up to this thing. Nausea sucks esp when it doesn't go away.

The worst part? I went outside when I heard the ambulance. It was the muggiest day and I thought this ain't good. The ambulance driver was so bad I told the paramedic with me to give me one of those high tech vomit bags. LOL So, I'm fortunate.

I sent an email telling the powers that be that those guys did a great job. She forwarded it to the commander and to them. Bad driver or not those guys and girls that do that job should be commended.

I see a gastroenterologist tomorrow which is preliminary and the second appt is the procedure.

EDIT: oh, sorry, i didn't read your outcome til I wrote this, glad it worked out!!!!

Don't panic. You need an upper GI / endoscopy (painless) they put you in a twilight sleep, you're sort of awake but don't remember anything.

There's plenty of very minor thing that are associated with blood in vomit, too, so don't panic. :)

smokers do damage to esophagus and stomach, even after quitting. But ulcers, etc. can be healed pretty well these days with nexium and such.

It is more serious if you are dizzy, can't breathe, etc.....I suspect your fears will be assuaged once they check you out.

I do wish you the very best.....

Glad you got the BE diagnosis before it turned into something more serious. It's a sneaky bugger of a disease process. The GERD is so low in the esophagus that you don't always notice the classic burning signs. I watched a patient die from it earlier this summer. It was only 6 weeks between being diagnosed with cancer from BE to being dead. Gives me chills. So so thankful you know whats up now and that Pepcid is your new best friend. :)
