I can't speak to the "OK" question, only that I don't dry-burn SS coils to clean them, because I like the crisp taste of a fresh, shiny coil.

That said, I dry-burn my coils around SS mesh in my genesis atomizers for weeks. And I won't say what alloy I use in them, because it might horrify folks and derail this good thread. :D:lol:

There's no way a thread could possibly get derailed around here..............
:pop: Ok, I'm ready.........horrify and derail away!

I use a radioactive lattice of Kryptonite. One puff would kill Superman.

No, I use an Ni200 28g coil around 317L mesh on Hana Modz DNA40s (also the eVic VTC Mini), on a RocketR CloudDeck edition (my main genny).

I do a "wet fire" with pure water in the tank to clean it, steam it off and then give it a short, low temperature dry-fire pulse or two.

Other than the fact that I'm still on the fence about using nickel, I see nothing wrong with your setup and cleaning method.
I'm so concerned about using Ni200 that I'm using a .08 spaced 26g Ni200 coil in a Lemo right this moment on my VTC Mini, lol.
In my opinion, if used properly, Ti or SS are probably safer than Ni200, but MANY other things will kill me long before vaping with nickel will. I think the dangers are minimal at best. Besides, my tanks and RDA's are vaped dry so quickly that nickel couldn't possibly leech into it fast enough to hurt me, lol. Still safer than analogs.
I think a lead top cap would negate any ill effects of your lattice, or maybe changing the direction the lattice runs, or not vaping with Superman (eww, alien spittle on your drip tip).............

304 is what joyetech used for calibration and 304 is higher grade, but if 430 makes you feel better go right ahead ;-)
I really don't know which grade of SS to use. I've been very happy with Ti for many months but I can't leave well enough alone! So you'd suggest using 304 then? Could you point me to a good source?

I am kind of curious what kind of differences in battery life everyone is experiencing in the different TC modes and power mode......

I think there are a few variables in TC mode. I set my wattage 5W above what the VTCm needs to regulate the set temp and I notice little difference in battery life.

Yeah that's the thing about TC and all the posts where folks talk about the "wattage" they have their mod set to, but in most cases that's not the wattage being used to KEEP the temperature you SET it to. I have a 200 watt DNA VAPORSHARK, and for my titanium coils, I don't need to ever set my wattage higher then 35 watts. My titanium builds hit my set temp of approx. 470-500f, almost instantly, and the wattage goes into the single digits just to maintain the temp. A lot of folks have to rethink when going TC, as has been brought up in the Evolv forums, the term "TEMPERATURE PROTECTED", is not a warning message or bad thing, it's what you want to see, it means you've reached the temperature you desired. Should be called "Temperature Confirmation"! So yes, compared to power mode and Kanthal vaping where the wattage is the main factor and keeps punching the set wattage amount until you stop firing, you will get more battery life in TC mode, another nice benefit, besides over cooking your juice and potentially releasing bad toxins into your lungs.

so they change a better wire for a worse one, 316... from what i know 304 and 316 are more or less the same except more carbon and other metals in 316 to make it corrosion resistant.. why would they use a Marine grade metal is beyond me. i remember the L stands for Low-something, maybe carbon?

316 has molybdeum added for increased corrosion resistance (typically for marine environments as you said). Grade 317 has even more molybdenum than 316, which is the only difference. But this makes 317 the best general purpose SS overall for corrosion.

The "L" stands for "low carbon." Pretty much all grades of SS can be L. The L variants resist corrosion better than the "higher" carbon versions but the trade-off is they are a bit weaker (and are thus preferable for welding). I would say generally the L versions are probably better for our purposes, though I doubt there's much difference in reality.

Thanx for the replies guys!!

Mactavish....where is a good place to get G1 Ti??

Spirometry....with your much appreciated conversion, should I set 0385 for 500f in the mini ??

Thanx again guys!!

Several good places for Grade 1 Ti. Your best option is to buy from jewelry suppliers since they have no reason to price gouge.

Unkamen Supplies has it in all gauges. $10 per spool (26 gauge is 35 ft). If you need 26 or higher they are usually the best (and only) option.

Rio Grande has it in 24 gauge only, but they give you 50 ft. for $10. Best price for 24 gauge out there that I've seen.

Several places on Ebay that sell jewelry also carry it. I just ordered a spool off ebay in fact. I ordered 50 ft. of 24 gauge for like $12. Rio Grande is cheaper but I want to try this out.

You can get 100 feet of 25 gauge (yeah, 25) for $19 with free shipping on ebay here.

If you just want to buy from a vape vendor (but not be outright robbed), then LightningVapes is probably the best option. IMO, they are overpriced but not obnoxiously so. Their Ti prices definitely aren't as good as their Ni-200 prices.
