Boiled them right on the stove in a pan. Was so easy. I bought 15 of em from FT and all the ones I used prior to boiling had that nasty metalic flavor. So I put em all in a pan on the stove. After 15min let them dry for 2-3 hours. I put one in my evod tank and my Protank. Both haven't a hint of metalic flavor at all! juice flavor is just awesome!!

You won't regret doing it.

Good to know. I tried soaking my Protank and a couple of heads in vodka for about 24 hours and it didn't get rid of the metallic taste at all.

I just started boiling the tank and a couple of heads, we'll see what happens. For me, though, I don't think the heads are the problem; the same head used in an EVOD works perfectly.

So just updating my Protank saga. As I posted earlier, the first time I vaped it I got a very strong metallic taste; it tasted like I would expect a nickel to taste if I had one in my mouth. Not pleasant.

I tried three different replaceable heads (with different resistances, including some older EVOD heads) and that didn't work. I then boiled it in water for 15 minutes and that didn't do much either. Last night I decided to try the advice of another poster and soaked the tank and the base in a 1:1 solution of white vinegar and water. Earlier today I rinsed it out with hot water for a while and then let it dry completely before refilling it.

Bingo! Much, much improved. I'm getting a very slight metallic taste still, but it is very minor and hopefully it will work itself out as I continue to vape it. It also may have a little to do with the juice I'm using, which is a mild berry flavor; I think when my Protank needs a refill I may fill it up with a different, stronger flavor to see if that disappears completely. At any rate, I am loving it right now.

One thing I did notice at first, even after filling it and letting it sit upright for half an hour to allow the wicks to saturate completely, was that I wasn't getting as full of a flavor from the Protank as I do from my EVODs. I ended up removing one of the flavor wicks, and I then remembered seeing that some people turned the sealing silicone ring on the replaceable head upside down so that there was a larger gap for the eliquid to pass through on the way to the wicks; those changes made a noticeable difference. I have been vaping it that way for a while with no leaking and no dry hits at all.

So anyway, if you happen to buy the original Protank and notice a metallic taste that doesn't seem to work itself out I would definitely recommend a soak in vinegar and water. Rinse it well and you should notice a substantial difference in vape quality. Thanks to everyone here on the ECF that provided suggestions, I really appreciate it.
