Every day you leave the safety of your own home is a day you risk your life! Your job will be waiting there for you, when this blows over :)

If this whole relief bill doesn't make your blood boil with the crap they insist on hanging on it, like wind mills and emission controls for airlines, nothing will. Calling DC a swamp is being too kind.

Yup, they had a bipartisan agreement three days ago, all ready to go. That would have gotten money out to those that need it now! Then they could have gotten ready to pass more bills as needed, united with both sides working together.

But then Pelosi came in and halted the whole thing. Did you see the bill see proposed? Like funding Planned Parenthood, changing voting laws, wiping out debt of the postal system.... Read it for yourself, pork anyone? Full text: Nancy Pelosi Coronavirus Stimulus Bill

Here's one part of it, what has this got to do with getting money out to people who been laid off last week and need money now for their families?

Just got done watching 12 Monkeys, now I'll have bad dreams, I should have known better.

In 2035, a virus has wiped out most of the Earth's population and the remainder live underground because the air is poisonous. Prisoner James Cole can earn parole if he agrees to travel back in time and gather information about the man-made virus and thwart the devastating plague.

Next on my list, Contagion Why not, might as well while I'm at it.

Faced with an epidemic outbreak that threatens the human race, healthcare professionals, everyday people and government officials look up to CDC to provide a cure.

willy, no one is voting on pelosi's bill - we're talking senate here and yes, there's pork on both sides. but to include 500 billion to bail out corporations with little oversight and do little for the workers was unacceptable. now republicans, after the compromise, are complaining it's too generous for the unemployed. imo, they should have added hazard pay to all those who keep us going

How do we keep electing these fools? Five hundred and Thirty-five fools, we have swept the bottom of the barrel and called it "Our Legislature".

I know, Chucky is right in lock step with her, they had an agreement, bipartisan, until she stepped in and Chucky followed suit.

but to include 500 billion to bail out corporations with little oversight and do little for the workers was unacceptable.
Who hires workers? There were limits tied to that money

now republicans, after the compromise, are complaining it's too generous for the unemployed.
Can't coment on that, I haven't followed the news today, can only take so much, I don't know what they have done in the last 24

imo, they should have added hazard pay to all those who keep us going
On that I agree

The bill they had agreed on up unitl last Sunday was just the first, everyone knew there would have to be more, they wanted to get money out asap.
But anywho I digress, enough with politics, I'm out on that topic.

I don't know about "corporate" businesses, but if the small business I have wasn't considered essential infrastructure I'd be hard pressed to continue after the 30 day Civil Emergency Order takes effect tonight at midnight locally. We have 9 other families that depend on our business to keep them going. I pray than none of our employees get the virus and have offered anyone that doesn't feel comfortable working can take a leave of absence. However there isn't any way we could make it paid for the minimum 30 days, little lone how long it may actually go on. The economy is going to go to hades which will most likely kill a lot of small businesses in the end anyway.

Look what's happening in Italy, their health care system is completely over run! They have to literally decide who lives & dies!

The only way the virus can be stopped is to avoid all person to person contact, as much as posable!

Every one is too concerned with their financial well being, it's time to look passed that! A lot of people could die if this isn't contained ASAP!

Look what's happing in the US! this is just today 13,000 plus new cases!

There's only so many hospital beds & ventilator machines available once there maxed out the rest of the cases become un treated ! A death sentence :( Just like in Italy! #StayHome

While I agree with most of your post, in practically the virus can't be stopped without a vaccine, only slowed down to allow health providers a chance to save as many as possible. Everyone of us will get it eventually without a vaccine.

Best case scenario A vaccine is a year away!
The virus is spread from person to person, or from surfaces it was left on by a person, you can only get it from some one who has it.
Given, social distancing will not stop it, it will slow it down.

This is a very serious situation, if we don't interact with other people we slow the chance of getting or giving it to others.

There is no vaccine for many viral outbreaks that have happened in the past. SARS and MERS, which according to sources are very similar to the Covid-19, do not have a vaccine.

I had the pleasure of speaking with a virologist after the SARS outbreak. She said Canada was fortunate enough to have contained the outbreak (within a certain degree), otherwise it could have very well turned into a pandemic like the Spanish Flu (which is another influenza virus with no vaccine - although there are claims certain vaccines may help prevent the Spanish Flu). This may be a bit exaggerated, but she did stress that no country in the world is prepared for a large pandemic such as SARS or Covid-19.

Whats funny (if you can find humour in it), she was with a few meteorologists who I learned of their profession first. I jokingly said we should exchanged contact information so you can inform me of the next world destroying meteor. They chuckled and said it is not us you should focus on, and pointed to the virologist as if to say there is more of a threat to mankind from a virus than a large celestial object crashing into the planet.

SARS kicked Toronto's @** . It was traced back to 1 individual who was initially responsible for infecting ~400, killing ~50. Difficult to compare SARS to Covid-19 in terms of infection rate - Covid-19 has infected much more in Canada, but SARS, to this date, was more fatal.

Toronto did implement a level of social distancing with SARS, although not as extreme as the current Covid-19 outbreak.
