I'm frustrated building my coils, maybe I'm just being too fussy..... I warp my coil around a drill bit shank, set it in the deck, tighten the screws then pull the bit out to make the coils tight and uniform, then loosen the screws and set the coil depth (how far from the posts). Problem is this nickle is soft and I end up breaking about half of them off at the post. I strive to get the coils uniform so the wicking will be compressed the same all the way through the coil and so I'll have both coils as close as possible to the same length/ohm's, am I just being too fussy? Been thinking about getting a coiling tool, who uses one? Which is a good one and which to steer clear of?

ETA: Guess I should state, I'd be looking for a tool to make evenly spaced coils.

If your wire is breaking at the post, it might be a problem with the screw. What atomizer?

Sounds like you're being too fussy. Cut it out :p.

I picked up a Coil Master v3 last year from a vape convention. I thought it was a great deal at $25 but now you can pick them up for less than half that. I've tried a couple of others and I really like this kit.
Coil Master V3 COILING KIT 6 in 1 DIY RDA WIRE COILER JIG

To get evenly spaced coils, wrap around the post, pull to 2-3mm between coils, then compress and you should get a perfectly spaced coil.

TI, is far less problematic. Less soft.

I personally don't do the second loosen tighten step, just tempting fate. I put my coil in on a drill shank, snug it down, and live with result. I don't feel like 1mm of lead difference is going to make or break me.

Sent from phone.

Sitting down, facing forward.
Willie, I just wrap on a drill bit shank or blunt needle keeping the wraps fairly even. When I have enough wraps I compress the coil on the mandrel and get a nice, evenly spaced, coil every time. Then I distort the heck out of it wicking it and have to go back and "rearrange" things again.

Gotta have a tool Willy! So much easier! Been using this lately $7.45 Coil Master V3 6-in-1 E-Cigarette Wire Coil Winder - 1.5 + 2 + 2.5 + 3 + 3.5 + 4mm poles at FastTech - Worldwide Free Shipping as it had the 4mm rod.

Spaced coils are done by coiling a contact coil, stretching it out on the mandrel rod, uncoiling the coil at each end you just janked by stretching out & pulling tight to straighten tails. Slight re-compressions on the rod using the coiler cap will push them back evenly spaced & your good to go.

Building on two post Steam Crave Aromamizer's

Well that's two votes for the Coil Master. :) I have to go past my local shop this week, I'll see if they carry it, if not I'll order one. Was going to pick up some stainless wire from them to try so it's a good time to stop by.

I knew in the back of my mind I was being too fussy, sometimes I can't help it..... I've always been one to try and do a nice job not matter what I do, yes I take it too far sometimes.... Got it from my Dad, he was a perfectionist, I'm sure him having been a tool & die maker had a little to do with it.

Thanks guys!

I personally don't use a Coiler. I use my set of precision screwdrivers that I picked up at harbor freight. There's a 2mm, 2.4mm, 3.0mm and 3.8mm flat heads in there... I wrap around the shaft of the screw driver, pull the wraps apart the length of the screwdriver, then compress them tight against handle that results in a decent enough spaced coil.

I put the leads in against the post, usually the handle touches one for the posts giving me the distance from the post on one side that works for me, tighten that side, then remove the screwdriver and flip it to the other side (or eye ball it) and tighten the other side. It's not elegant but it's the way I've done my Coils pretty much since I started so it's natural to me. I tried a couple of cheap coilers they seemed to make the process more complicated TO ME. ymmv.

If the tightening of the screws is cutting your wire, I'd suggest sanding and softening the ends of the screws, I stole one of my wife's emery boards (fingernail filing boards) that I keep in the toolbox and that works great, just a few passes by hand to flatten any sharp edges. I've only had to do that on a couple of screws honestly.

I hope what I'm typing makes sense when reading it... It made sense in my head as I typed it... Hahaha.

On all of my Aromanizer decks I smooth the face of the grub screw turning on a section of hex key in a drill against a diamond stone and I grind down the step in the connection holes with a diamond burr on a dremel. Normally the steps are only on one post, I forget which, but it is where the screw hold has been drilled slightly too deep. Doing this I can run triple 32 AWG twisted Ni & Ti, whereas before that they would snap adjusting the coil after cleaning.

@SlickWilly, if I did this right the video should start at the coiling portion. It should give you a better Idea what I was saying.

Perfect! That coiler is making nice tight (to the rod) and uniform warps, that's exactly what I'm looking for. I can't get that tension on the wire when wrapped to the rod with my fingers and what happens is some of the coils open up from the wire springing back when you stop and let go. Yeah, this will work. Thanks again guys.

Oh, and it's not the screws cutting the wire, it's the wire breaking where I clamped it the first time, it breaks right there. Problem is, if I don't tighten enough, when I pull on the coil the wire pulls past the screw, too much, it crimps the wire and that's where it breaks.

Sounds just like the step, a picture is worth a 1000 words, I have ground the step off the top coil holes, I don't use the lower one, the red arrow is pointing at the wire cutting step.

I think once you tighten the wire, you should leave it alone.
I find I all ways tighten pretty good( good TC connection) and it crushes the wire at the post weakening the spot.
If the wire weak spot is not pulled thru the hole after the initial tightening it's going to break for sure :(
I use a screw as my wrapping tool :) I get a perfect spacing & just unscrew the screw out of the coil when I done adjusting it :) Works real good for me :)

Yeah I have to agree now, sure as heck I was putting a crimp and weak spot in the wire, then when I pulled that spot through and tugged hard enough it was snapping there. I just built another mizer, this time I wrapped the coils tight, pulled the coil then pressed it back as others had advised and it came out nice. I put the coils in up against the posts then pulled just enough to position once and LEFT IT THE HELL ALONE LoL. Yeah I was just trying too hard, over thinking it..... Boy it sure went quicker this time! Thanks guys, I needed to be told to knock it off and just get it done. :)

Here's a theme.. I did NOT make it, just tweaked it. Adjusted and added the profile pictures. Altered the new coil image to show resistance. Included 2 types of profile selections - elements and thermometer. Also made a Temperature Dominant profile and Power Only profile picture. Over all a Clean, easy to read, nice graphics, nothing "stupid" in there (I hate those) theme. As far as I know, it should work fine and display properly.

Did a simple ERM+ secondary welcome screen with the evolv logo. I tried centering it, but it didn't look right to me, I guess because of the + symbol - looked better this way.

Again, I don't know how to host a file for download any better than this, so if someone has a way to share this better - by all means, do so. I don't even know how long this server keeps files up? (this was the first link in google for file sharing free) Anway again to be clear, I take NO credit for this - just sharing my tweaks.
