I don't think they're talking exterior walls with insulation,

my worry, too ;)

''WHDI operates on the lower 5 GHz frequency. This is higher than most Wi-Fi systems, so there is less chance of interference. It is also low enough in frequency to have decent performance through walls. The only drawback is that it requires a tiny bit of signal compression in order to function properly. But don’t worry: you won’t be able to tell the difference unless you’re using a huge screen over a long distance.''

i sure wish reviewers would be more specific ;)

nope - my internet is way too wonky to be able to use anything like this. besides, he's partial to some of his dish chanels ;) and the dish programming is what i'm trying to transfer to the second tv.

Just saw your trying to use this with dish programming. My boss uses the Hopper DVR with his service from dish... and their Wireless Joey units to receive programming in other rooms. May be an option to look at and is officially supported by Dish. I think it's $15/mo for the hopper and $7/mo for the wireless joey. Wireless joey communicates with the hopper through wifi-direct, so should be no problem for the distance you mentioned.

I typically run a SSD for the OS, and then a RAID5 array for storage.

If you upgrade the memory, then disk speed is not as much of an issue. I like SSDs for my OS because of fast startup, but if I had to make a trade-off, and I had plenty of memory, I would opt for the additional storage space over disk speed.

Not really. SSD also speeds up opening an app/program. Windows also uses a bigger swap file if you have more memory.

I don't care about it being blazing fast, what I didn't want to do was buy the 64gb of memory only to vastly hinder any gained speed by having a slow system drive.

These two 2tg drives I have are SATA 6gb, both were in my computer before I bought the dvr, I pulled one for that. When I had them both in the computer I would move folders with recorded shows and big movie files (10-30 gigs) from one to the other and they transferred really fast from one to the other, too one of my older drives it would crawl. Maybe using one of them will be fast enough for my use and not hinder things?

thanks! ;) but i'll be darned if dish gets an extra 22 bucks per month out of me - i despise tv! dish has been put on pause for over 2 months now ever since dh's surgery and ensuing stay at rehab. love the peace and quiet! :D

I hope dh makes a quick recovery, it's no fun being down like that. :(

Speaking of computers, some may remember me raving about that little Windows 10 tablet/notebook I bought last December. I got mine on sale during Christmas time, price has come down now to what I paid for it then. RCA Cambio 10.1" 2-in-1 Tablet 32GB Intel Atom Z3735F Quad-Core Processor Windows 10. - Walmart.com

My wife has a new HP touchscreen laptop with Windows 10 and this thing will keep right up with it, it doesn't lag or hang! I added a 64gb sd card for a second drive and have loaded full programs such as the full version of Office 2007, it opens and runs them faster then my desktop, I've been very happy and impressed with this little guy. As far as money spent on a computer, it's been by far the best bang for my buck, ever.

Well to the point of this long post, the battery has been slowly loosing power so I popped it apart the other day to see what lipo's are in it. I was blown away how tiny the motherboard is in this thing! It's about 3x4 inches and no more then 3/8th thick. How the hell can that little mb run this thing as fast as it does? Searched and found a pic of one, forgot to snap one while I had it apart.

Younger guys probably don't know who that is. Hint, in my young days, many teens had a poster of her in a bikini made from what looked like rabbit, it was a photo from a cave man movie she was in. No way my mother would have allowed that in the house. :(

I would think even the younger ones would have seen at least some of her "Body of Work" and know who she is.
