I hope to actually start reloading sometime this winter. I'm surprised there isn't a readily available polymer diy "mix" (similar to Syntech ammo) out there for plinking reloads. If I decide to get a .460 Rowland conversion for my 1911, I'd definitely consider casting my own bullets.
That .460 looks very impressive, those are some impressive speeds coming out of a 1911! Price isn't all that bad either, may have to consider this.
That coating is like the Syntech, for some years now guys were powder coating bullets and there was much controversy over whether it was harmful to the bore but no one ever showed it was. Then the Hi-Tek shake and bake on coating started being sold here in the USA, much easier then powder coating and it's a different coating. It's been very popular in Australia for the last 20 years where it's made, now finally ammo companies have taken notice and are offering ammo with coated bullets but they use their own coatings. This Hi-Tec that I'm going to use can be purchased here Hi-Tek Powder Coatings You can get it premixed in liquid form but most guys buy the powder, keeps longer and easy to mix, comes in a wide variety of colors and they keep coming up with more.
There is a long thread on the castboolits.gunloads dot com forum titled "simple Hi-Tek coating". Not sure if it's OK to post a link here but if you can't find it in a search PM me. There is also a section on reloading there so you may find that helpful too. There are advertisement links on the top of the pages and a vendor section for companies that sell cast bullets with this coating for those that don't cast their own. Cast bullets saves a lot of money when reloading and these coated are much better in many ways then the traditional lubed.
