Well, If I was going to get a Mec Squonker for a rough environment, it would be a Grand :)
I don't see a 15$ 3D printed mod lasting too long in any environment.
Actually, 3D sintered nylon enclosures are remarkably durable. I have made about a half dozen and the only failures where in the USB charge board on one, and the 510 on another, neither had to do with the 3d Print.

Now, 3d sintered nylon can be a dirt sponge as it is somewhat porous. They benefit from a good finish. CA finishs are particularly durable.

The two outside ones are unfinished, the one in the middle had a professional automaive paint job, it didnt hold up, it chipped easy. The two I did with a CA and Acetone finish held up like stone.

And yes, the one on the right was a squonker, it was from a crazier time in my life, I got over it.

@Rossum or whoever, I've been looking at lightweight mech squonkers (3D printed single 18650). Just need a beater for working in very dirty environments. Frankenskull? Boxer? Other recommendations?
My beater is a 3 year old Peko. 3D printed nylon. As Mike said, that stuff is amazingly tough. It doesn't look this nice anymore, but it still works fine:

There's been a huge proliferation of new squonk mods in the last year or so, but I haven't tried any of them myself, "cause I'm don't see what any of them do better that the mods I already have.

I agree 3D printed nylon makes a pretty good mod.
I was referring to the slew of cheaper 3D printed "mec squonkers" that are poping up as of late.
They wouldn't be my first choice for a rough environment :)
My ERM+'s live in a rough environment & have the scars to prove it :)

They are built to take it though.

Sitting down, facing forward.
I value my ERM+s and ERMs too much to use them as beaters. They all reside in the house on my end table. My real beater is an Invader Mini with and FEV V3 or V4 on it. Not a squonker and only a profile for NI200, but durable as heck. Rubber coated, locking 510, water resistant, shock resistant and, with an FEV, on it basically indestructible compared to anything else I've ever seen. It's been dropped on concrete, packed blue stone, dirt, water, leaves and anything else around here with no damage. When it gets dirty I just run it under the faucet and dry it off, sans FEV of course. The FEV does get wiped off with a wet sponge though.

I've. Been beating on mine since the beginning. I need a mod that can stand the. Rigours. Of. Heavy equipment. Life.
Bouncing around in cup holders. Falling on the floor. Some times. Even worse

The. ERM+'s. are up for the job

I would never take a nylon 3D printed mod to work!

The ERM+s were built like tanks, out of 7 in my rotation not a single one has failed, and some have been beat to hell.

I did drop my Evolv original Black ERM (beta reference Mod) a few weeks ago and it needs some repair, the enclosure is fine, it fires and connects to escribe, but the screen is blank and the down button is recessed to the point of barely being usable. I have been procrastinating on fixing it because with a live lipo soldered directly to the board, and then having to (dis)assemble the Mod "hot" to replace the screen makes me a little squeamish.

ERM+ on left, Penguin SE on right

You all can laugh, but I switched my work "beater" to the Penguin SE. I keep the ERM+ at my desk and carry the penguin around when I am in the factory.

The Penguin is actually a decent little Mod $25 (battery included). Fits in my shirt or pants pocket quite easily. I can "palm" the whole mod easily for stealth situations. The refillable tank holds 9ml, it gives a perfectly "acceptable" hit, not a killer hit like a Merlin but nonetheless it is satisfying, I am able to use it all day and not feel "wanting". No leaks at all, 2000mAh bat, 2A charger. Non-regulated but the 0.6 ohm coil measured at 430ish on a fresh bat. As the bat drops the hit diminishes slightly, but barely enough to notice. Extra "pods" are available for $3, so just keep an extra pod loaded with a coil and another 9ml of juice and it is enough to get you through. It is made of plastic, and will probably smash easy. But at ~$25 I will just consider it a disposable mod should anything ever happen to it. Some users complain of inadequate juice flow, I havent experienced that. I suspect it may be due to vaping style. I use strong enough juice that I dont need to chain vape.

So laugh if you want, but cheap, effective, and kind of cute. It has its place in my rotation.

Yeah, I know. But it still seems completely out-of-character. :D
Agreed, but now that inexpensive and "effective", disposables are an option, I am finding they have their place.

Prior to this I just never found an "effective" disposable that didnt rival the cost of a real mod. I was tempted to try the Juul, but the cost (factoring in the consumables) always stopped me.

A good Atty on a DNA is still my go-to, but the convenience of the Penguin has its attractions.

I imagine this genre will improve with time, until some damn alphabet soup gets in the way.
