Sitting down, facing forward.
The Merlins came today and I built one up with seven wraps of 28ga SS430 on a 3.3mm drill bit and am vaping it now. Good flavor and vapor production from a single coil. Easy to build...but...there's always a but...I've got to leave more tail in the wick wells. Once I empty this one, which shouldn't take too long, I'll pack in a few extra tufts to solve the seeping I seem to be getting. I want to look at it in Escribe and see how the power is doing at 420F.

Hey, Mike, any idea what material that slotted coil is that they come with? I'm assuming, and we know where that goes, that it's stainless but one never knows, do one?

Yeah, the slotted tube is SS but the legs are something unknown, probably kanthal.

Never had much luck with them, tried 2-3 then gave up on them.

Never tried a slotted coil. I do tend to stick with what works for me and get dragged, kicking and screaming, into da futcha.

Any hints on how high the coil should be? Low, medium, high or even vertical? The build in it now is "mid", basically at the height the legs worked it out to. Flavor is really good and vapor is outstanding. I'm through half a tank already. May need to order some more, the price is still the same.

I tend to go mid, I would wager Steamer goes low, its all a matter of taste at that point.

I look at my desk right and I have 4 Merlins setup, and 4 Mizers setup. All things considered I would say the Merlin is my fave overall, mostly because of the simplicity of a single coil build that still gives a decent hit.

What are you vaping, Steamer, tar sand? Wow, that wick and coil are dark. Actually, that looks pretty close to where I have mine running right now. I'll take a picture when I refill for comparison sake.

On my soapbox.

I love/hate this time of year. The cooler weather is nice, but that means wearing pants and shirt instead of just shorts, which maybe the neighbors actually appreciate. When I mowed the lawn, aka harvested the weeds, the other day I should have had the bagger on the mower. The leaves are already starting to fall, maybe that's why we call it "fall", and should have been mulched. It gets dark too early and light too late, already, and we're still on Daylight Stupid Time. Next thing you know, the heat will have to be turned on. Then, there's all those outside projects that haven't gotten done yet and the weather is starting to close that window. What makes it all worse is that it's a harbinger of winter.

Off the soapbox.

I ordered another three, two for us and one for a PIF to a friend. When I wicked it and trimmed the tails I realized I had trimmed too much and stuffed a little extra tuft in each side. It did seep a drop overnight, less than half full in terms of tank load, so when I empty it today I'll re-wick it. Just don't trim a lot from the tails, Willie, leave them full all the way down into the wells. That should prevent any seepage. That's the worst part of a new atomizer, learning its little tricks.

My Mom was home, here in NJ, taking care of a 3-5 year old. :pervy:

I found that the juice hole/window should be completely covered lightly.

I find the Melins are pretty forgiving :)
I have never had any wicking trouble or leaking with my 2 :)
I am how ever having a bit of an issue with the JFC on my SS one.
It seizes up :(
I have to use a tool & work it good for a bit then it frees up.
Not really a big deal, I bet If I used it more it wouldn't do it :)
