if I can access these channels for free, why should I pay Spectrum to view them?
Well, right now Spectrum has to pay to carry those channels, and you can't expect them to not to pass those costs on to you, right?

I think they've just lost touch with their customers, the fact alone, that they continue only to offer their services in this "schedule" format & without giving you any real choice as to what you want, is proof that they don't value their customers time... unfortunately they'll probably never realize before it's too late.

If the channels cost too much, they don't need the channels at all, they should be letting you pick the individual shows you want, in an on-demand format, & stop charging to view past seasons/viewing on-demand as another way to dig money out of your pocket & rather the future of their services. at least directv has done this but it's still far too expensive.

If services like Hulu, Netflix and Amazon can do it for under 10/mo cable can certainly get their rates down to something reasonable.

Still it's a stupid statement to tell customers they can access those channels for free, they should have left that line out...
You mean by antenna, or less legal means?

When I read that what I see is them trying, desperately, to misplace blame. but I don't buy it... the fact remains that both sling and playstation offer the exact same thing as cable (without forcing you to rent subpar equipment, & with free dvr) for $25/mo.

It's maddening that they would even say that, like they have no respect for their customers & think they are a bunch of idiots who don't know how to use Google. tbh I really don't see the next generation paying for cable at all, even mine, my sister, my brother, my cousin, none of us have it anymore.

Actually last night I was curious bc I used an app to rent a new movie for $1.50, I looked it up for fios and first of all its only available for purchase at $19.99 rn, (which you lose permanently if you move or switch your provider btw) $6.99 for other rentals.

Nah, I think that's the whole point. Why should they pay (and have to charge you) for content that you can (legally!) get for free?

Incidentally, much of the channel bundling is demanded by the content (channel) owners, because the revenue they get is based on the number of subscribers, not the number of people who actually watch.

But yes, the business model of "500 channels with nothing worth watching on any of them" is getting pretty stale.

But they do, and are charging him for that content. content which seems to be going behind the cable companies back it seems... bc a lot of those cable "channels" (fx, tbs, tnt, mtv, fox, nbc, history, cbs etc) have apps that (& idk if they have figured this out yet) you can use for free if you're under an internet provider from a company that offers those channels, like I don't pay for cable at all but those apps authenticated & recognized that I was on Cox when I downloaded them to my shield. A lot of them even let you watch live TV.

Sitting down, facing forward.
I think us "older folk" were spoiled when the only TV was free TV. Then along came cable and pay through the nose. It's disgusting to say the least. $150 a month for TV and internet with nothing really decent to watch other than older movies, and how many times can you watch the same movie before it just doesn't interest you anymore? I tried Sling, but what they advertise as available and what is actually available on it are two different things. If the channels weren't bundled lots of stuff, like ESPN for one, probably wouldn't exist anymore and ESPN, if I remember the numbers correctly, adds $9 per month to every cable bill. I NEVER watch ESPN or any of it's sub channels.

Back in the late 50's or early 60's there was an FCC commissioner named Newton Minnow. Back then, he called TV a "vast wasteland". It has evolved in to an infinite garbage dump.

By the way, when it the add for the shopping spree contest here on ECF going to expire and disappear? It takes up real estate and is just plain distracting.

I agree, and most TV content is violent these days and callousing our conscience.
"death murder kill"- Sandra Bullock in Demolition Man.
We use a 12ft. long ota antenna mounted up 25ft to receive the major network channels from Little Rock. It's enough to keep up with world and local news. That's all we want. Gave up death murder kill shows long ago and we feel happier.:)
