When I was young my Father had the largest TV antenna that RCA made mounted on a 100 foot tower and we lived at the highest spot around for miles. There were only 3 local channels, but we could get most any channel in MO, and a lot from the adjacent states to the West and South. At night when the sunspot cycle was right I would watch channel 2 CKCK in Canada. :)

Unfortunately, the world portrayed in "Demolition Man", greater San-Angeles, seems to be the way things are going. Ooops, I was just charged one credit for violating thought police rules.

I had a big, high gain, antenna on a roof mounted, 35 foot, mast with a mast mount amplifier and rotor. In the basement was a distribution amplifier. Overall system gain was on the order of 20dbm or greater. We could watch Baltimore or Washington, DC, stations any time we wanted to as well as New York, Philadelphia and Hartford, CT. Not that there was anything different on any of them since they were all the same major network stations.

Can you give me a link or the model info of that modem? Any idea if it would work with Spectrum (Time Warner)? I've never researched these because I've always used the rented modem they provide and then bought my own router. Look's like going the streaming route is out, I showed the wife what it would be like getting channels through Ruko and she doesn't want any part of it, she doesn't like jumping through the few hoops to navigate through it, she want's a channel menu like you would see with a cable DVR box. I wasn't surprised, I figured that it would be a no go, she easily get's lost and she hates to take the time to learn something new. She wants to keep internet through Spectrum and go with either Dish or Direct TV because that's what my daughter has used and anything my daughter say's is good over rides anything I recommend. We'll still save about half and she'll have her DVR, if I buy my own modem I can cut the monthly rental and maybe boost my download speed some but I don't have a clue where to start. The internet we have is 25mb max, well using their modem, hoping my own modem would boost it a little but even if it doesn't at least I'll save the rental and the modem will pay for itself. Maybe I don't need one that's 3.1, maybe 3.0 is all I need? I did find these, one has a router built in, don't know if it's a good router of if even buying a combo unit is a good idea?

When I got off of FiOS and onto Comtrash I bought an Arris package, DOCIS 3.1 modem and a Surfboard router. I have replaced the Surfboard with an Asus AC1900, RT-AC86U. The Asus is a dual band versus the single band Arris and has built-in VPN which saves me from having to open ports, to the world, to be able to monitor my video surveillance system. If anyone wants the Arris Surfboard router, send me a PM.

Is that Sherlock or SheerLuck?

Could be sh*tluck for all I know, was wishing I had another 20700 for my next build, got an email on these. Don't know anything about them but I tossed the dice and ordered one, along with some more wire. Thought I'd pass it along, for what it's worth, it was a flip of a coin to post it or not.
