They all have their purposes. I've used gell cells when position is a problem or constantly changing, like in walkie talkie use. I hung a 1.8ah gell cell on a Yaesu walkie talkie I used to use, a lot, and it would last a day, plus, with 5 watt output when the standard 800mah wouldn't even make a morning of use. It did make it kind of like a brick and could pull your pants down if you weren't wearing a belt, but it did the job for me, anyway.

If I remember correctly the UPS I have needs 24vdc input which means the batteries are in series. I'll have to check it out. I keep thinking about a couple of car batteries, I already have two battery boxes sitting around, doing nothing, so I could put them to some use and have vastly improved run time compared to the stock batteries.

Yeah, I know, but being cheap and not expecting them to deep discharge very often, if at all (we have a generator) I can get by with standard car batteries. in fact it might be an idea to run on them once a week to keep them "healthy". I'm really more interested in the sag and spike protection the UPS provides, the standby power might be used once or twice a year, normally.

Wouldn't you know, last night around 8 PM BOOM the power goes out, turned on the scanner and hear a tree fell on a power line. I headed out to the shop, grabbed that spare battery, a jumper socket out of my tool box and the 200W inverter I keep in the truck and brought it into my office. Took a couple minuets and I had my security camera DVR and monitor back up, ran it for an hour or so before the lights came back on, checked the battery voltage after I shut it down and it was at 11.96, not bad for running that cheap little inverter and I didn't splice 12v directly to the camera's and DVR, I just plugged the wall socket adapters into the inverter. Guess I need to get off my duff and set this up.

Tibs should have a link to that, Mike, or even could count out some spares from her stash.
the link should be in the old co-op thread and, yes, i might have a few spares somewhere. i'm having display problems though on my laptop and need to figure out that mystery before i can go searching :?:

I have an 1800 watt inverter and a large jump pack if all else fails. I also had a 3000 watt, 5000 watt surge, inverter that would run the refrigerator but it got heavy, daily, use when I was doing bumper repair and finally crapped out. I'm going out for gas a little later, today. We may get some significant, heavy, wet, snow overnight tonight and/or tomorrow.

If you can't figure it out, you might want to try system restore, restoring to an early point in time, getting there, the steps, can be different for different versions of Windows and there are multiple ways to get there. It won't be available unless your system was set up for it. Many times it has saved me a lot of time and frustration. Sometimes updates can make things so screwy. On my Win 7 this two ways how you get there

But like I say, it has to be turn on before you can roll back to an early point

Yeah, I use Nexflix and I'm loving the stuff on Prime, I'm getting so I watch more of that stuff then what's on the cable.

I got lucky, caught the wife in a good mood yesterday and had a sit down with her, I was able to finally have a calm conversation and explain everything between streaming, cable, dish and direct tv without interruption or her going off the deep end. With her short temper it's rare to be able to have a long in dept conversation without it going south, but anyways she finally understands the whole picture, other then her Netflix she does not want any part of other streaming which I knew, doubt that will ever change. In the end we agreed to just keep the damn Spectrum and pay the increase to keep her happy.

Me, I'm getting another Ruko for my office where I watch what I want and I'll be expanding my streaming world, in the end we'll both be happy, we just won't be saving any money but peace is more important to me than money, I can always get more money. I can't buy peace, well unless I spend it on a divorce lawyer.

Yeah man, plus it'd be rough if she forces you to be her remote controller for a while. my gf usually gets something after like the 5th time explaining, the first 2 she straight up does not listen, the 3rd & 4th it's half listening, then the 5th is when I go "pay attention bc this is the last time I'm explaining this" & she gets it. She had non-stop trouble with the last paid TV (directv) we had, & I always was having to do something or schedule something or figure out where her channels were (in directv they're not neatly set up & a lot are separated by 500 or more channels of ppv nonsense, for example hd channels start on 500 or so but not all channels were offered in HD, so they're scattered around a but... Yeah I know[emoji58]) why this or that hadn't recorded, & half the time she'd end up watching stuff on the non-hd channels etc...

But... she has had no trouble at all w/ the android TV stuff, when I asked her why that vs the directv, she said it feels just like her phone (note8, which she is *very* familiar with), w/ directv stuff was all "clunky and hard to find". Also she's said that it makes it easier for her to just single button cast whatever she's looking at on the phone or whatever else to the TV.

I was conserving power, even on the cell phone. My friends at the City warned it would be an extended outage.

My main concern was trying to keep the fish tank alive. I dont have a generator anymore, starting to think about one of those natural gas ones.

Where do you live dude? I for some reason thought it was in VA like me... We had some craziness up here & a few cars got impaled by various things, also I saw a guy up on a ladder cutting literally all the branches off of like a 60 year old tree on his lawn in 70 mph winds, his house survived though. My uncle had his siding peeled off & my dad had a new a/c condenser smashed by a log but my power only went out a few times for like an hour at the longest, & then 30 sec at a time towards the end of it.

But I fully support the idea of getting a genny. I actually wanted ours to go out so I could test the limits of our new automatic genny that's hooked up to the gas line... which the upstairs neighbors hated the idea (when they found out), were already annoyed at our renovations & asked a bunch of questions to me about it, (it automatically turns over 1x/week and they made me set that to when they are out playing bingo or w/e). It's very quiet btw for a genny. I was actually forced by the condo association to get a smaller one than what I had but it's surprisingly enough to run the fridge/tv/router/hvac/furnace/a/c... maybe not the dryer. Our upstairs neighbor thought they'd stop me I guess, but they actually allow it within certain guidelines (we're lucky enough to be on the bottom floor, facing away from the front) & it has to be mounted on a tray like an a/c condenser (actually its right next to it & we just installed a new condenser so we were able to move that over enough to fit both). Anyways after this was over her husband was asking me a very different type of questions lol, (they're pretty much screwed though since they're on the middle floor) my next-to me neighbors though were like, yep, definitely getting one. idk if they'll be able to though bc of where that condo is facing. if so, I'm sure the upstairs lady will love it.

So after having problems when streaming Hulu on PC(s) and thinking it was my ad blocker software on Chrome I gave IE a try.
Bingo no more hangs, my ad blocker was disabled for Hulu but I suspect it caused problems anyway.
So at work on my laptop I decide to use IE and went to check the version with the "about" tab and IE would stop working. I uninstalled IE 11, then IE 10. When I got it to IE 9 I reinstalled IE 11 again. It appeared to install but still said IE 9. So I uninstalled IE 9 and IE 11 would stop installing half way through. 5 hours later with a clean boot I got IE 11 installed again.
Still stops working when I click the "about" tab. Well at least I got paid to "fix" it.

Oh, BTW, after I uninstalled all them versions I tried System Restore, no luck in putting IE back.

Hulu, Sling, NetFLix, Amazon, streaming, PC, tablet, phone. Man, I yearn for the "old days". Turn the TV on and watch. If you missed something you wanted to see, catch it on a re-run later in the season or rent a tape or DVD (for you younger folks).

Good God, 5 hours for a browser to get Hulu to work, your a better man then me. I'd been smashing it with a hammer about half way through LoL. JK :)

Amazon Prime videos wouldn't work in the Torch browser I use, Torch is Chrome based, a pop up said I had to install Google Chrome so I did. After that Prime videos now works in both, I'm leaving it alone and not changing a thing....

Oh, it worked, it was that browser crashing when I checked it's version that got me going that way. I should have just let it be.
It does work flawlessly with IE though, I'm pretty sure my disabled ad blocker in Chrome was hanging it up.
