ECF is growing and changing.
Oliver is continuing to bring new and exciting things to the members, he's been working hard towards that with the contests.
I know none of likes "change", we are all comfy in our routines. ( get off my grass ! )
Some of us are very settled in our vaping habits...but there are still so many that need the nudge to get off cigarettes.
I support ECF and with a crap ton of time volunteered because I believe in it. It's one of the very last places online that anyone can come to - from young to old, any walk of life and be comfortable. No foul language, no poor behavior...
I want to make sure that it stays for the future, I would like to see everyone not smoke cigarettes.
I use an ad blocker along with not getting all the ads being a Supporting Member, and don't begrudge the contests that pop up.

I don't know where I am going with this, I guess I let all the complaints get to my heart.
Maybe I should just give up.

I can't agree more and given its a private venture the powers that be have all the rights to set any rules they want and members have no "right" to do anything not allowed. Don't take it personally, but I found it distasteful that accomlished and knowledgeable members were suddenly not able to share their knowledge in the general forums, and deleting battery safety info (which wasn't as available back then) just really peeved me.

Classy, it's not the changes that bother me, at least not all that much, it's more of a change in target, for lack of a better word. I only hang out in a few threads here and they all involve "hard core" vaping techniques or specific niches so I may not be aware of the whole forum. Having stuff pop up just isn't "user friendly" to me is all I'm trying to get across.

Willie, on the back of my cable boxes there's a 75 ohm port. That port supplies an analog version of whatever the box is tuned to. It's not all channels at once, like cable used to be, just the channel the box is tuned to. Sort of a "slave" port I guess. It does limit you to whatever channel you're tuned to on the box, but does offer a way to get an analog signal to another device, typically on "channel 3", without adding another box. You just have to be satisfied with watching the same channel on both devices.

Ah, gotya now, see, ya just needed a bigger rock to smack me in the head with. I'll see what these new boxes look like when I get them, hopefully they'll have that port along with the hdmi. Thanks buddy! :)

Classy, you keep doing what you are doing, its a good thing, and this place is still one of the best "public" forums available. Vaping is changing, and so I think Oliver is trying to change with it and appeal to the "new" generation of vaping audience. The challenge is how to hang on to the "old school" at that same time. Many have moved on to FB or whatever, but I "detest" the FB interface, then there is that other free-4-all place where kids will be kids (even though they are supposedly adults). Where does the "old school" fit in anymore?

As for the pop-ups, yes, they are annoying (especially) on phablets and when you cant see the "x" to dismiss them. But here again I think it is also an "old school" thing, most of the "old school" could care less about contests for gear that isnt appealing to us. So the "contests" are sort of annoying in and of themselves.

Anyway.... you keep keeping on, you are doing your part. Many of us are too in our own ways, I dont think there is a person in this thread who hasnt jumped in and tried to help a noob.

Alas, many of us in this particular thread are just sad to see a dying art, and Modding is indeed a dying art. And frankly, the formality/rigidity of this forum (as a whole), which has helped to keep it a civil place and NOT a free4all, has also served to run some damn good knowledge off. The whole "rule" thing needs to be overhauled, with good judgement by "responsible and sensible" moderators taking a higher role than a set of rules that rivals a Government Code Book.

Ya know, one of the shows I love to watch is that tree house masters, what they build are pretty damn cool but what draws me to it more is that guy, the boss, who is always happy and kid like. Now there's someone who really loves life, he's making the world a better place just from his demeanor. Joy and kindness spreads just like anger and hate, a pebble dropped in a pond that sends out ripples. We need more shows like that, too much negative crap on TV these days.

Yeah, I'm bored...

 Classie you have been nothing but helpful and level headed so please know these things aren't aimed at you. In fact I believe it was you that guided me in the proper channels and proper way to address any grievance that I have had in the past.

Concerning however is the numerous new vapors that I see and strike up a conversation with that are totally dependant on vape shops. Most of them would go back to smoking if the vape shops evaporated,
No doubt some of them will. But I'd also expect some to start poking around the internet looking for a way to not to go back to smoking, and some of them will end up here.

I use tapatalk & I have not seen ads in ages. just sayin'.
I do already have a Roku, I bought that one for the wife as one of her Christmas presents, she watches Netflix with it on the living room TV. We don't watch TV together because she likes to watch news from 4-5 PM till 9-10 PM then watch her Netflix or recorded shows. I watch and record all my TV in my office on my big computer, I can't take more then a half hour of news a day. I have a new 32 inch curved monitor and I set up quadraphonic speakers, I'm very happy to lean back in my easy chair with my feet up on the desk fill the room with vapor and watch what I want here in my man cave. I want the 2nd Roku for myself to use on my monitor and I'm putting that antenna you have for the local over the air channels, I can hook that antenna up to my TV tuner card. After the 13th when Spectrum goes all digital you need a converter box on a TV, that won't work with my TV tuner card in my computer so I'm going to let her have her Spectrum cable and Netflix on the living room TV and I'm going deeper into streaming and over the air. ;)
Damn dude, that's a lot of news lol, I just can't anymore it's rediculous, I'd be horribly unhappy if I did... the way I see it anyway is all the TV news companies are so biased either one way or the other, that at any given time they literally only report *half* of the news & I just end up feeling depressed for the news people... I can't stop imagining them as young reporters getting into the business, & how much of that exuberance, morality, joie de vivre etc was just sucked out of them along the way.
Willie, just to make sure I explained it right...I'm using the 75 ohm tap on the cable box, it is digital coming to the box but the box is supplying an analog signal as well. There's still a LOT of 75 ohm only stuff out there and/or people that don't give a crap about HDMI inputs that they're still on the boxes I have.

As the little, old, grey haired, pince nez and shawl wearing, little old lady working for the government always says "We MUST have our rules". I do appreciate ECF as a vaping site which is why I support it, but sometimes I wonder what in the heck they are thinking.
Yeah that's going to be difficult, w/ monitors especially. Actually many TV's now do not even have a coax on the back anymore.

edit, nvm that was a monitor, my new TV in the living room does have a coax. I imagine though that at some point they will gone, I think coax as a delivery medium can only support like <30 frames per second, which on a crt is less apparent but on oled is very choppy.

It's also the one area of the technology that bothers me the most & tends to get either ignored or embellished, TV's are being sold as 240fps (its some kind of black magic simulation, not actual) which is pretty much impossible w/ current technology... then whatever cable/streaming/bluray you plug it into are not capable of putting out anywhere near that. It's one of the reasons I use the boxes I do (Nvidia shields) bc they are one of the only ones that have a real (pc spec) gpu & capable of 60fps in 4k.

Yeah it is too much news for me too! My wife came here from Germany, after we married and she became a citizen she wanted to go to college and I supported the idea. I worked twisting wrenches (making decent money) and she went to school. After her first year she decided she wanted to become a professor and teach poly sci, after four years she started teaching here in NY at Wells College, she taught there for a couple years. She was very very close to getting her doctorate, all she needed to do was present her dissertation but out of the blue Cuomo, after promising to increase college funding, creating more teaching jobs he turned around and slashed funding. The enrollments plummeted and professors started loosing jobs, my wife being one of the first to go. She just gave up, it took the wind out of her sails, no matter how hard I urged to at least take the last steps and get the doctorate being that close she wouldn't.

She went into college as a Republican and she came out a hard core Democrat. She follows politics like most guys follow sports, I can't partake....

Yeah that's sort of like my dad, my mom's side of the family have always been hardcore Republicans, my dad I've never even known him to vote, but before the last election year something bad happened that I won't get into & he's suddenly a Democrat & following politics like it's his favorite sports team, it's weird, but I tolerate it for the sake of his declining sanity. I'm not political at all & don't like to take a specific side unless there's a candidate that actually resonates with me, which there hasn't been since I've been old enough to vote.

In terms of bandwidth, cable (coax) has significant capacity, probably well into the ghz range but getting lossy that high. 1080p or 4k should be no problem at all well past 240 fps on coax or fiber, although fiber has much lower loss.

Depends what signaling/modulation scheme is being used. ;)

Well from a raw data perspective, yes... but (also from a raw data perspective) you would need a high speed modem on both ends for something like that. If you're going to go that route, it'd probably be better to just use an ethernet cable... plus the technology is just not there on either end for you to see 300 (actual) fps on giant oled screens. 120hz is the fastest legitimate refresh rate you'll see from screens on the market today & the only thing that can do that (that I know of, & I did a good bit of of looking around before buying) are high end 24-32" gaming monitors. I actually have one & it'll do about 200fps tops.

The other problem is being able to sync up the refresh rate to the framerate & that's why these types of monitors have a type of built-in v-sync (g-sync) to sync up to the gpu & make that happen. Plus, If these giant screens like the one I just bought, that claim 240hz or w/e, were actually that, they'd cost about 2-3x more at least.
