kiba, I wouldn't shut those vents all the way, may end up with too much heat in the bedroom. My daughter has central air with vents in the ceiling, the bedroom didn't get enough cold air and she shut the living room vents off, she froze in the bedroom that night.... I told her to try just shutting the living room a little at a time and see how it goes, it took a few days of trial and error until they got a good balance but now it's even through out the house.

You could have your girlfriend slowly close the living room vents while the furnace is running and with you feeling the air flow off the vent in the bedroom, might help shorten the trial and error process.
I was just going to start with closing one or two but I could try that tonight instead... There is a crap ton of pressure though since all of the hvac stuff we put in is about 2/3x bigger than reccommended, so your way is probably better...

At least until the new temp sensors arrive anyway. Supposedly that will completely fix my problem according to reddit. I pre-ordered 3, so I guess I'll put one in the dining room, one in office & one on the far wall in bedroom... Part of the problem I think is the new mattress, it's one of those new purple hybrid ones which is extremely comfortable but literally retains no heat. Probably will be nice in the summer but for me, ever since I was a kid, I feel like I lose half my body temp when I sleep. idk why.

and since nobody has responded to that question yet - kiba, 30% humidity is too low. i'd aim for at least 40% ;)
I was wondering that bc look at my ashy prune hands...

I think it depends on what a person is used to. I had a guy working for me for a while who moved east after a long time in the high desert of Nevada. He'd tell you 40% is miserable and swamp-like. o_O
The guy who we bought this place from, literally had 6 humidifiers, it was crazy, like 2 in every room but we found out he was diabetic. We put one in the hvac system when we upgraded but it hasn't been on much I don't think, we kept it off bc the humidity seemed so high at first.

This is great advice though thank you guys, I'd probably be lost in my home improvement projects without it.

Wait so Willie, you have heated floors in your house? I don't think I've ever seen anything like that, I've always had central air but my grandmother had an old renovated Victorian house where she had heated floors and central air put in. There was literally nothing under the floor so they had to be heated, I think.

Well here's my thinking, I may miss the mark but it's my thought. Putting sensors in different rooms to kick on the heat will turn it on and bring the temp up to what ever you set it at, but if it's always warmer in the living room then the bedroom, all your doing is bringing the bedroom up to where you want it and the living room will be warmer. Until you find a way to even the temp between the rooms your not really solving the underlying problem, balance or temperature differential.

That's what I like about the baseboard heat, I like it warmer then my wife so it's always 72 in my office, she likes 68 in the rest of the house. Plus we don't heat any rooms we don't use, we heat less then half the house, about 40%. If we do decide to use one of the other rooms, just turn the heat on and give it 10-15 min.

While on the way to the doc this afternoon to finally have that sliver plucked from my eye I was thinking back when I was a little kid in our first house that was hot air blown through ducts, back then along with the adjustment on the grate's in the rooms there were also valves in the ducts under the floor. Down in the basement you could adjust them, I remember Dad tweaking them, man I was little back then. They looked like this.

Sitting down, facing forward.
I must have missed the humadidity question. We keep it at about 50%, but we've both lived here in semi-swap NJ for a long time and are used to higher humidity. There is, actually, a gadget to check the amount of air, CFM, coming from a duct. It's probably too expensive to buy one just to balance your house but it is interesting to watch "the pros" balance a really big system. Fooling with the vents and/or dampers is more time consuming but you can get there if your patient.

Day-Uhm! Rip Trippers tried to warn us -- but some people obviously didn't listen!

You need to stop vaping immediately!

I don't know, all that vaping has keep my trigger finger trained and my grip solid. ;) I don't get the practice I use too.

When I left pistol competition I was in the upper end of Expert class and on my way to the next class, Master. Unfortunately I never made it before the spine problems in the neck started to make my arm weak and my hand developed an uncontrollable shake. I hating giving up the sport but I had won a lot of metals and awards, made a lot of memories, I do miss it much though. Ah, back to watching Top Shot. :) Later.

Well, I gave them 6 months to come to their senses, I have now deleted my PhotoSucket account.

I now host my images on my own website using Chevereto - Image Hosting Script which is every bit as good as PhotoSucket.

My images will never be held for ransom again.......

Yeah I probably have to figure the vents out too but what I was thinking is to set it to default for the bedroom sensor, just for at night... like while we're sleeping I'll have it use the bedroom one as default, & switch back to an average of the 3 for once we're awake.

At least while I'm figuring this out if it gets too hot/cold I can adjust it by voice or phone while I'm half asleep.

Those type vents are old school, idk if I've seen those before, ours are all in the ceiling & like this...

I am "old" school LoL. I do like the idea of being able to control the heat from the bed, that is nice. :)

I filled it out, though I also noticed that most of it seems aimed at people... not like me, is there something going on w/ vaping I should know about? (besides the obvious)

btw does anyone have any painting advice especially for corners or tight areas? I am a novice at best, & need to touch up some spots I missed, & also the paint I used in the bathroom above the shower tiles needs to be redone with a Sherwin Williams water resistant one bc it's getting wet, maybe a splash guard/more tiles or something like that later but for now I just need to paint it.
