Well shoot, is that what my calipers look like on my high milage vehicles? Yuck!
If my calipers aren't leaking or sticking does that hardened brake fluid effect the braking performance?
It probably won't cause failure but could effect how well they release causing slightly increased wear.

Wow! I thought I'd be ready for all of the drum brakes haters. But I am over just over whelmed. What's that poker phrase? I don't really play poker, but I believe the phrase is called I fold.

The best that I got is 18 wheelers still use drums. And while I haven't piloted any aircraft since the 70's, I am pretty sure they are still using drum brakes too. There has to be a good reason for it.

Yes, drum brake fade must be scary as hell. Over 45 years of driving, I think I might have came pretty close about two times in my life. But you have a second really weak brake system called down shifting. Yeah engine compression is a horrible way to brake. But the one thing it does well is it does slow the vehicle down.

Some trucks even take it a step further. They call it a Jake brake. Usually it just shuts off all fuel to the engine and all you have is just engine compression. Some take Jake brakes even further. As sometimes a total shut down of the fuel to the engine might be too much braking. So some allows you to select how many cylinders to keep supplying fuel too.

What I really like to know is who is this guy named Jake and what does he have to do with Jake brakes?

Drum brakes can work quit well IF they are kept in good working order but stopping power, disk brakes out preform them given the fixed amount of room you have to work with on a vehicle. Sure, you can use bigger drum setup that will stop better then a small single piston disk setup but it will take more space. There's a reason why you don't see drum brakes on race cars. Why they don't use them on heavy trucks I don't know, I never worked on heavy trucks, your right there has to be a reason but I don't know what it is, I never needed to know but I bet google would find the answers.

My old 56 Olds Rocket 88 had four wheel drums, even with all new drums, shoes, cylinders and hardware they still would get hot and fade when trying to slow from 100 MPH on up, it was so bad it was scary, you'd have 10-20 seconds of slowing then the brakes got hot and the brakes were useless.

Even though I live in a tiny village, the trucks that pass here jake brake all the time. There is a steep grade here just past my house, I get sick of hearing it, nobody drives 30 any more and the police (state and sheriff) flat out refuse to enforce it.

Hell 80% of the people never stop at the stop signs, they blow right through them all the time. Even the school buses that pass here every day drive way over 30. The farm boys with their load exhaust systems on their pickup's go like a bat out of hell, you can hear them turn the corner down the road and they'll have the pedal mashed to the floor wide open all the way up the road. I've repeatedly asked the state and sheriff to sit in my driveway if they want, twice in 30 years they did but that was it, they never did stay for more then a half hour and they never pulled anyone over. When I call and complain they always tell me, "We patrol the road all the time" well yeah, they drive by once or twice a day, chances of catching someone is slim and even if they saw someone speeding they won't pull them over, one trooper even told me last summer, "It's a waste of our time, it's only a traffic ticket and the judges will only give them a small fine." And that was when I told him about my drunk neighbor who's had multiple DUI's and still drives without a licence. He's been driving daily without one for the last 2 1/2 years, and he's back to drinking while he's driving, he'll get out of the car with a long neck bottle in his hand.

ljc15, worked until I signed in,, bummer. :-x The only one I could get to "work" was newreflection for 5% off. :(
Cart total was over the $40 amount for free shipping but, would not take the click for the free shipping. Tried several times even signing out and back in again and doing the purchase again. :-x
Finally just went with the 5% off and NOT,clicking any shipping (because none of the options would take and high light) and completed the purchase. :(

What the "Thank You", final screen showed was 5% off and $11.60 shipping! Did a contact us and requested a cancel on the order and told them why. Now I wait to see what they do.

But,,,, Thanks for the codes anyway! :thumb:

If you have enough battery packs now and you're just looking for spare battery's to have on hand down the road when the lipo's die you can easily replace the lipo's with these for $10 shipped AS 950mah 3s 11.1v LiPo Battery High Quality | eBay If you buy multiple send the guy a message through ebay and ask him to either help with the shipping fees because of a multiple order or throw a few extra battery's in, he's always given me 2-3 free to help offset the shipping fee, he's done the same for Steamer. These are the identical size as the battery's in the DX packs and they tested better then the FullyMax lipo's that were in my DX packs, I replaced all six of mine last month. If you want to see how these DX packs come apart I have pics I can post.

Well trucks use air instead of hydraulic so there's also that, but I'm the exact opposite I hate the drums, plus braking performance-wise they get really hot, fill up with dust and can you imagine a modern car going relatively fast with all 4drums maybe a deer or person pops out onto the road, it would take quite a while to come to a dead stop.

My daily is a subaru that came with performance 3 piston (per front caliper) brakes, & holed rotors, it's pretty impressive how fast it can come to a dead stop, it's saved me from quite a few idiots on the road.

Btw I've been meaning to ask this but has anyone had issues with their vaping constantly setting off the smoke alarms, we just replaced the old ones per the home inspectors advice, & the new ones have been going off constantly.

Are you attacking air brakes? As I have used both and I like either or. You could setup an automobile to use air brakes too. Although you would need an air compressor and an air tank. Yeah there is over 7 billion people on the planet and I think maybe 2 of them would actually buy an automobile with air brakes. No, I wouldn't be one of them.

So what's up with semi trucks and air brakes? Well the truck itself could use either hydraulic or air and either would work just fine. But you also have that darn trailer to worry about. Sure you could use hydraulic fluid. But making and breaking a hydraulic connection all of the time will only result in getting air into the line. I don't know about you, but I never got hydraulics and air to play well with one another. And I don't think many truckers really want to bleed the brakes every time they up connect to a trailer either. So using air instead of hydraulics solves those problems.

What? Really? I already have 14 DX200 batteries. Even if they were giving them away for free I don't think I would take any.

Mostly its just being lazy on my part. I picked up some replacement batteries from hobby king to help me get to the free shipping when I bought that ultra for my 250C. Then I broke a standoff in one of the Dx200's :oops:which now throws off my charging rotation which is 3 in use and 3 charging. Doing the math on the egig ones after coupon and free shipping that's only 9.35 for a battery and a shell, and it wouldn't interfere with the current program going on in the shop. Screwing around drilling out a standoff,,, pfffft, that only takes time away from the CNC conversion I'm doing to my mini mill, Priorities ya know! :D
Then once the mill is back up the replacement of that standoff will be easy! :)

You can be sure that I check out all of the posts that pertain to the same equipment that I use. The posts and pictures share insight that is invaluable. Easy ways to attack and repair problems that arise are what I like about this group! The information flow is superb and the coffee is good too!

We've come a long way, more people then ever have given up cigs and switched to vaping, lives are being saved and that's a wonderful thing. But the fight is far from over, SF just banned all juice flavors, San Francisco Bans Flavors! Here in NY they are trying to ban all flavors other then tobacco. There is a reason why CA and NY are fighting vaping so hard, as always, follow the money. Vaping Set To Wipe Out Tobacco Bonds

Having nic withdraws, I tried hard to stick with a reduction in my nic levels, afraid I was too drastic, I went from 18mg to 6mg a couple weeks ago. I've been doing good until the last few days when I started having those old feelings when I went without a cig for too long. I can't leave the mods alone for more then ten minuets and when I wake I really have the craving. I'm going back to 18, I can't take it, I'll let some time pass and try a gradual reduction.
