This is how I buy mine, this way I always have one that isn't all hard inside which happens rather quickly after first use.
Hey Bill, I should have mentioned that I always let them sit for a full day on top of my network switch, warm but not hot. With very little to no air getting into that joint, yes I know it's a chemical reaction but air is still needed for a real "cure", it takes some extra time. Being from the more is better school of thought, a day for cure time seemed about right.
They never really divulged the 40 screen scramble root cause. John alluded to it once or twice, but the general attitude among the whole team was "we dont want to talk about that ever again"Say mikepetro, I heard Brandon say in "Haze Hour 04-12-14 by VapourTrailsTV (with Brandon)" Youtube video that Evolv believed they fixed the DNA40 original screen lock up twice before, but found something else on the third try (three time's a charm) they thought they really had it fixed this time. But I never heard anything more about the screen lockup problem. I have 3 DNA40 small screen mods and 2 DNA40 large screen mods and I have never seen it here.
There is mention of a DNA40-V5 too in varies places including Wikipedia, which talks about a new Atty Lock Mode. All 3 of my DNA40 small screen mods (HCigar HB40 and Railbox) has this Atty Lock Mode feature (some large screen versions has this too). So was there anything noteworthy to mention about other DNA40 versions?
I also heard or read only from one source (which I don't recall now - probably still in my web history though) that there was one DNA40 version that will let you select material type. Do you know anything about this one? Or since it was only one source, maybe they confused this with a later DNA board. Like does a DNA25 allow for this?
Since I don't use nickel, I tried several materials. Ti worked fine (as in the DNA40 would happily stay in TC mode with it) but stainless steel did not (it would consistently drop out of TC mode). From there, it was a reasonably straightforward matter of doing dry wick scorch tests to establish what temperature setting was reasonable. Not aware of any material choice options, although Rossum pioneered using an offset to allow TI to be used.
Word to the wise: Careful, dont want to attract "too" much attention.
I was checking out the insides of one HCigar HB40 and taking measurements. There is a lot of space inside of them. Makes it very easy to work inside. And how do you activate the DNA40 up and down buttons? The HB40 uses their own buttons, so the DNA40 ones isn't used. I tried pressing with my fingers on the board up and down and nothing. Used something small to press and nothing. They are tiny switches for sure. Fire button on the board works just fine with my finger.
Say, I measured and I believe I can get a 20700/21700 into this, depending on the battery holder. Not sure if I can get a 3 cell lipo in there or not. There is a alloy wall between the battery side to the electronics side, which is part of the box. That would have to be cutout if you needed more room.
Electronics side, wow! Lots of room. Since they are using their own buttons, you can mount any DNA board you want in there. You could even mount a color screen in there if you wanted. You would need another button though for select. Lots of possibilities with this box. They make for a really nifty modders box.![]()

And the duty cycles are not as high as the newer boards with the silicone actuators. Thanks Mike. Had to get an eye loupe and they do press down and work. Sure are tiny though.
