Don't forget rebuilding the Carb! Them old Rochesters could be a PIA :(

Rottenchesters
The old 73 Fleetwood Brougham had a QuadraJet that I figured I get a kit for and rebuild, my first carb how hard could it be... Too much know it all and bravado back in those days...

I watched 4 videos about cleaning the throttle body today.

Thanks Willy, it doesn't appear to be missing or skipping just throttles back to almost a stall then resumes normal idle speed.

I have a basic ODB II reader that will give you the code and reset the MIL, picked it up for the Hyundai Accident that had a slow motor on the fuel tank leakage detector, $400 for the module or reset the MIL once a month with the $39 scanner. If it comes to the point where I'm going to need one of those BT ODB scanners I'll get one of the ones you linked for sure.

I'll see how the cleaning turns out, if the problem returns I'll most likely take it to a dealer. The local mechanic knows his stuff but like you say the dealer knows the product inside and out.

Except for the local Hyundai dealership that couldn't diagnose a faulty crank shaft sensor, but charged me $110 for the diagnosis and told me I had a minor exhaust manifold and oil pan leak. :glare:

Was thinking damp, if it was skipping then damn combined would steer me to look at plugs and wires. Don't know that engine, I assume it's has some sort of idle control run by the ECM? Might be a problem there. On my wife's cars, she loves buick's with that v6, it has an EGR valve that will get carbon build up on the valve and not close all the way, intermittently and that makes it idle rough and low. I'll pull it off, some carb cleaner and gently scraping the carbon off will fix it for a year or two.

One nice thing with that software that I linked the ODBwiz, you can set it to record all of the sensor info or you can choose which sensors you want, I just hit the "All" button, and then hit record and drive the vehicle or let it run setting still, then when it acts up you'll have captured all those signals. Just hit record again and it stop recording and it saves the recorded file, then you can replay it and it will show you all those signals just as it was while you recorded it, you can watch the numbers change or you can watch graphs. So say you had a coolant temp sensor that would intermittently give a cold signal for 5-10 seconds, without capturing it during recording or seeing it happen in real time (which is tough, drive and watch the screen....), without capturing that data, you could chase that issue for a long, long time.

I went down that road too! I had one on a 1977 GMC & after the rebuild it flooded so bad I'm lucky It didn't catch fire! The only thing you could do with a Rochester, was replace it with a Holy! :)

Sitting down, facing forward.
Heck, Willie, the geese are always flying around here. They don't have to "go south" from here for the winter so they just stay around all year.

I was trimming some low branches the other day and noticed the acorns are popping out. Another sign.

As winters get milder here we have more that stay, some ducks will stay too but the vast majority will head out well before the lakes and ponds freeze over. Right now they will start forming groups and feasting, getting bulked up for the flight, this will go on for about another six weeks then they'll start to leave. When we see the first V's forming it's always a sign you better stop all the playing and start turning your thoughts to prepping for winter. Still lots of good weather left and the break from the real hot & muggy is welcome, I just don't like what follows. Seems we wait so long for winter to pass then summer goes by in the blink of an eye... :(

I must have searched for near 3 hours yesterday morning for that link long ago that had the Aspire Triton RBA kit for $1. I figured they were long gone anyway, even used the search box. Ended up buying 2 for $4.99 ea. (plus 3 something shipping). Decided I needed a way to dry fire them so I bought an Ijust tank at FT for $12, just really wanted the base part.

All you had to do is ask. Yes they still are only 99¢. ;)
