Unless things have changed since I stopped drinking, our beer compared to yours, ours doesn't hold a candle. One of the things I use to look forward to when going across the boarder, one of the first things we'd do, hit one of the distributors for a few cases and get it on ice.

I grabbed one of my Windows 2in1 machines today to check a few things online. I haven't turned it on in 2 months and all I needed was 10 minutes and then back in the case to sit there for probably another two months.
But NO... Microsoft had other plans. It decided to do a disk defrag or something and the drive was pegged at 100%. Click on the browser to open and 10 minutes later it finally popped up on the screen. But I couldn't do anything. Just click and wait. Totally useless. Ok let it do whatever it wants to. I'm using another machine.
A few hours later I can finally use it. Oh wait... Microsoft wants to reboot to install an update I don't want. Damn I didn't disable Windows Update services on this machine yet. Crap. Okay reboot. Four hours later it is at 48% complete. I never had problems with viruses and such, but I believe I'll trade that problem for these Microsoft intrusions any day. Why haven't there been a class action lawsuit against Microsoft over this? I am sure it has cost billions if not trillions of dollars of lost revenue by now. Does people believe it is something that has to be done? I say BULL!
And if you are one of the unlucky ones who does gets viruses and such. There are better ways around the problem. Things like Windows Embedded, Kiosk mode, guest mode, sandboxing, etc. There is no need to take down people's computer's for hours, or some cases days for these dang updates. Once this update is done, I have to fix the things it broke.
UPDATE: Working on updates 88%. Don't turn off your PC. This could take awhile. Your PC will reboot several times.

I haven't done a defrag since Win98SE, or was it XP. Every time I check Windows says "0 % fragmented" with Win7, I never checked on my 10's
Yes, running SSD boot drive these days. But all the other drives are listed too. Before the SSD it was that way too.
So I checked for when Windows would automatically defrag and it's set for 1 AM, I have been at work at that time eneryday for the last 14 years or so and the home computer was off.

On my Win10 machines I use Windows Defender (free). I'm using iPhones so anti-virus is out.
Did you install iOS13 yet? I hate it. They moved everything. And now I get a weekly system report that I don't want. And sure you can turn off WiFi and Bluetooth if you want, but iOS will just turn them back on again in the middle of the night anyway. And now iHeart notifies me everyday to listen to iHeart. Went in notifications to turn it off and it isn't listed there. Why can't they just leave things alone?
Yup, Microsoft put build 1903 on it and now GlucoseOne won't launch. Can't do anything now since it is defragging the drive again. All I wanted to do is to use it for 10 minutes and put it away. But no... Microsoft has to screw around. Now I am not going to get any sleep tonight fixing the mess that Microsoft had made.
I have way too many computers to change all of them to SSD. Although some of them has been running SSD since 2007. They were really expensive back then.
Do not defrag SSD’s – there is no need to and performing a Defrag can actually reduce the life of an SSD. The SSD controller already optimizes how the storage is utilized.
A Windows update should not take 4+ hours to complete. If the update was large, a slow network connection can slow things down quite significantly.
Updates are designed to check, initiate a portion of the update, then check again. Should a failure happen this process will be repeated several times. A failure could come in the form of conflicting code, or problematic hardware.
There are many Hard Disc health tests – I would have a look at the drive manufacture to see what they offer in the form of disc diagnostic tools. Or use the CHKDSK and or WMIC command.
On top of a health test on the drive, I would also conduct a memory (RAM) test. Win 10 has a native memory diagnostic tool, but to my knowledge (I could be wrong), it will only test the first 4Gb of RAM. Anything more does not get tested. This may have changed with updates.
But MemTest86 is a better program. But in both cases be prepared for hours of down time where you cannot use the computer. Memory testing is quite intrusive.
