As a smoker, I smoked a pk a day because that's all I could afford -- I bought 120s, because they were so long I could "smoke them twice". No refillable lighters because I can't abide the smell, but I made sure to always buy Bic lighters because the cheapies are either not dependable or they're too hard to strike.
As a vaper, I've had a few bouts with shinyitis, though probably a lot less than some folks, because even though quitting smoking freed up $176/mo, I don't spend that entire amount on my vaping habit -- my husband has gotten to go back, in a small way, to his coin collecting hobby, and considering the total lack of grief he gave me in 28 yrs of putting up with my smoking (and paying for it!), I think it's only fair that he should benefit too.
None of my regulated mods (5 of them) have cost more than $40, and most, substantially less. My single mech was right at $40, but the $17 Kick I bought with it pushed it up to nearly $60. My 2 Kayfuns are probably my most expensive items, but both are clones, so $32.95 each; my cartotank was $6.
2 drippers, a Caterpillar and an Igo-S, both very inexpensive.
I've never paid too much for ejuice, although the Blueberry Muffin I've been enjoying lately, from Sweet-Vapes, is fairly "premium," and the price reflects that to a certain extent; $9.95/15ml -- not the most expensive I've bought, I've bought some locally that was $14/15ml, but B&M prices are always kinda outrageous, which is why I don't mind the $9.95/ml. But I'm working on lowering that expense (roughly $40/mo), trying to learn to DIY something blueberry that can take its place, so I've invested in some flavors, nicotine, and PG/VG, but I'm hoping that will eventually pay off in much lower 'operating expenses.' Probably the biggest expense, per ml, is the WTA, but considering it helps both to keep me happy with vaping, and nowadays to help me vape a lot less (to help my asthma), it's money well-spent that I don't begrudge a penny of, and neither does my husband.
The best thing, financially, about vaping, is that it's flexible -- if a payday is a really good one, I could spend $60, $70, or even more; but if it's a really tight payday with a lot of bills, I can get away with as little as $20-$25 -- that could never happen with cigarettes, which demanded $88 each pay period no matter what bills had to be paid -- we just had to make do with less food.
