I just got a Reo Grand that arrived today. It looks incredible. However now I am only awaiting my batteries to arrive. In that time I have been saturated with information on how dangerous these batteries can be. The thought of being maimed while vaping is freaking me out. I know nothing of safe battery use and honestly never thought about it before. I don't like the idea of sitting by my charger nervously awaiting the grrenlight to come on and then promptly removing the battery for fear of deadly overcharge. And I dont even wanna think about a battery going up in my face. I bought a couple LIMN aw I Mr 18650's I believe and the "cheap" ultrafire charger. I would have sprung for the pi a had I known what I know now but I still would probably be nervous. Can anyone out there put my mind at ease so that my Reo doesn't be one the most expensive paperweight I own because I REALLY wanna use my Reo.-....it just seems like my perfect vape....

Congrats on your new Reo Grand! I would have mine if I had been home to sign for it today. I'll let someone more experience than me answer you batt question. Congrats!
Don't worry mate , if you don't leave the charger unattended when you charge your batts and take usual precautions as you would do with any batteries, there's no major issues.
And as far of your fear of having a very expensive paperweight, i can only reassure you! I own both a Grand and a Mini , and there far from useless paperweights, there my most precious vaping tools, I'm pretty sure you will enjoy it as much as all the REOnauts in this forum, Reo's are a piece of art IMHO.

Relax. Even if the charger over charges the batteries, the worst that is supposed to happen is that they vent a harmless gas.

I don't think you have much to worry about. I haven't heard of that many rogue battery explosions to the point it should be of a concern. More than likely a person who had that happen either used the wrong atty on his pv or bought the el cheapo battery model.
I carry around my mini in my pocket all the time and even now as I type this with my right hand my grand is in my left hand hovering about 6 inches away from my face - just so it doesn't have much travel time to do in between vapes
So long as you use the batteries all these fine reo vets have sugessted for the long term, you'll be just fine.

Ditto what Mudflap said. The only thing I would suggest is that after the light turns green pull the batteries out and let them sit for maybe 10 minutes before you install them into your Reo. That way if the batts got warm while charging you are assured they have cooled and settled to resting voltage. Most all battery failures happen while in use rather than while charging. Things like an atty short or accidental long term firing. It's really hard to misfire a reo even in your pocket, so safe there. If you have an atty short the spring in the reo will collapse and cause the battery to no longer make contact. So, pretty safe there too.
Buy yourself a multimeter. This will give you the confidence that your batteries and charger are working well. It will stop you from fretting whether the battery is overcharged/undercharged etc. You'll also be able to check the status of your atty or cartos. They are pretty cheap devises and well worth it. I think it will help you very much.
As was previously mentioned if there happens to be a short the spring will collapse disabling the battery connection. I recently had one collapse due to a bad atty. These batteries are most likely to never be an issue even if there was an issue first the mod is vented so cannot explode and if the battery could or did explode it is inside such a solid mod with venting it couldn't do you any harm. Don't worry you have nothing to fear.
All I can add is use the right charger for the battery.
And if a battery is behaving in an odd manner or looks damaged...don't use it.
Don't carry your batteries loose in your pockets or purse with loose change. If you're going to carry them its best to use a separate pocket or use a battery case like Small Clear Battery Case or you can find them on Ebay.
Also...and this is really important....if you ever sell a mod or need to ship yours in to Rob and you send a battery along with...NEVER SHIP A MOD WITH THE BATTERY INSTALLED.
You can rest easy knowing that the REOs are not sealed pvs so if a battery goes, its not going to explode.

I am feeling more confident now knowing that an explosion is highly unlikely. I don't very much care if my batteries die or fail and need to be replaced due to overcharge ir improper use. It was injury that was really making me nervous. I am bought the cheap ultrafire charger, I think model 139? I know 39 was in the title. It wasn't the good Pila one. I wish I had sprung for the P la one now. Does the Pila one cut off the charge after the battery is charged or do you still have to worry about overcharge. My ecig routine was always leaving batteries on a charger overnight to get a fresh charge in the morning. I guess I won't be doing that with these batteries but I wonder how manic one has to be with these. In no review of the Reo had anyone mentioned this as a major concern with using the Reo so I can only assume that no matter how careless one is the likelihood of a devastating malfunction is low. In fact in every review I saw of the Reo, virtually all gave glowing reviews and many said it was the best everyday vaping experience they ever had. I can't imagine they would be saying that if they were experiencing dangerous battery failures left and right. So I think maybe my problem was I was searching a lot of thread that read like the warnings on any piece of electronic equipment. If you've ever read the warning on a laptop computer....you probably wouldn't put it in your lap out of fear if you let the warnings get to you. I'm sure you all have your routines with your batteries and have even been careless here and there without incident. And maybe even others are careless with these batteries all the time and they still have had no incidents. I just know the Reo is gonna finally be the best friend that all the other ecigs I tried couldn't be. I thank you guys for settling me down and I'm glad to know that my battery probably won't blow the side of my face off, lol! I can't wait to try my grand!

If it makes you feel better...I'm guilty of leaving my batteries on the charger a few hours past charged. Its not on purpose, but I'm not always at my desk (where my charger is)....and there have been times I've left them on the charger overnight. When this happens I just pull out my multimeter and check them really quick just to make sure they're not overcharged.
The cheap ultrafire charger is all I have at the moment too. One day I want to get a Pila one too, but the ultrafire WF-139 does the job for me right now. I just don't leave it charging overnight and try my best to not forget I have batteries charging when I actually do.
As for laptops, I know I've heard more stories about my apple wall charger heating up to the point of meltdown more than I've heard of batteries going off in pv's.
We're all here to help each other and I still learn things all the time (only been a reo user for 2 months myself) by reading questions other people ask and listening to the advice of the well seasoned reo users.

Also....a couple of you mentioned a multimeter? I believe they measure the charge your battery has? I think it was 4. Something vaults it should be at fully charged and 4.5 and above is overcharge and shouldn't be used? What do you do if it is overcharged? Do you discard the battery? Leave the battery alone for awhile?
I also can't stress enough my thanks for the support you guys are giving. I heard the Reo community was the most joyous and supportive of all the sub forums.....turns out that was good information I got....you guys really are the best! I guess the Reo must be incredible to inspire so many people to give assistance and kind words to new users. As far as ecigs go, ive tried them all and theyve all lacked in the sturdy ease of use that i believe the Reo can deliver. Ive researched all the mods and found the Reo to be the most universally celebrated and loved....i couldnt find a single bad review, and thats impressive. I hope one day when I'm a seasoned Reonaut I can give help to those in need too.

Thanks JC!!! I have it in my hands now with no power!! This is by far the most sturdy and ingenious looking device I have ever seen in the vaping world. Even the video reviews and raves didn't do it justice. I can't wait to try it and tell you all my take. I think you all know I'll be singing the praises soon!!!
I would say more likely to get into a car accident than injured while vaping ..... chillaxe and enjoy it.
Quick note, if you're interested, Harbor Freight has multimeters for $4.99 atm. They're handy for checking battery charge AND checking the resistance(Ω) of your atomizers. They can tell you if the resistance is what it's supposed to be (1.5, 2.3, etc.) and also if they have a dead short in them. It's an easy way to check for DOA attys when you recieve them, so if you find one, it can be replaced under warranty (I've only ever had 1 that was bad when I got it). Testing them with the meter is much easier than vaping each one
Also, don't stress over the batteries, they *can* malfunction, but as long as you don't put them in the charger backwards, or abuse them, they're no more risky than your cellphone battery (those have been known to malfunction too, btw).
ETA: You can never have too many backups. I have a Pila charger but also have an Ultrafire 139 as a backup. Again, reasonable caution and you'll be fine.
