I'm such a dork, but with the evod kits hopefully arriving today or tomorrow and reading so many stories about the process and how it's helped so many people quit, it's got my emotions in quite the uproar. LOL. Like millions of people, I would really like to be a non-smoker - for health reasons, monetary reasons, cleaner environment reasons, etc. And our first and only grandchild is just a year old and I'd like to live to see his children and be a great-grandmother one day.

By the time it arrives I'll likely have 2-3 packs remaining in my weekly (*gasp*) carton. I am not buying another carton per my usual on Friday, but will play it by ear. Not gonna let myself run out though either.

I'm sure most of you can relate, but just the thought of being cigarette-free makes me want to go have one RIGHT NOW. Even though I know I'm not planning on going cold turkey at all and keeping the stinkies around just in case, it's still making me feel anxious. I know my extreme irritability when I'm not getting a cigarette fix. I've, jokingly, of course, said to people that have told me I should stop smoking that cigarettes are the only thing keeping me from beating the living #*$( out of someone! It is my pacifier and anxiety-easer. :(

I find myself trying to curtail my hopefulness that vaping is going to be so lovely that the cigarettes will become abhorrent to me because I don't want to over-sell it to myself knowing that there's a learning curve and a time-frame required to find the sweet spot.

My hubby is leaning towards the "I want to replace my Kool filter king experience" exactly. And, yes, I've tried to warn him. On the other hand, I'm leaning toward the "I want something that tastes really good - the complete opposite of the ashtray taste of my non-menthol ultra lights" because, in my mind, this will make me want to vape more than I smoke.

Sorry for rambling on...I just needed to vent a little before I explode :p

Don't stress! Just get started, smoke when you think you need to during the transition. It isn't an overnight process, you'll be fine. I was down to half a pack in the first week from a pack a day (newports, 24 years). upping my nic to 24 finished the job. It is taking my husband longer, and that's perfectly ok!

If it helps though, my cigarettes did taste nasty after a few days!

Heh, I can understand the anxiety, because I remember how I used to feel when I "only" had half a pack of cigarettes left. #1 CONCERN: MUST GET NEW PACK NOW NOW NOWNOWNOW!!! And the very idea of quitting made me want to smoke two at a time.

Now, now, now I have a full pack, minus three cigarettes in a coat pocket in my closet. It's the same pack I put there on January 3 this year when I started vaping. I've only had 3 cigarettes in the last two-and-a-half months. And I didn't even plan to quit-quit just like that. I just decided I wouldn't smoke inside any longer, and vape instead, and then see if I could give them up entirely. But for whatever reason, even though I was a smoking demon, it was just very, very easy for me to switch right over to vaping. I started at 12 mg, and now I'm vaping mostly only 3 mg (via DIY e-liquids). It was my fourth time quitting smoking, even though I didn't realize I was totally quitting just like that, and it's the only time it's stuck.

SO, my advice is not to even worry so much about framing it as giving up cigarettes, because that's going to automatically make you feel scared and deprived. Just try out the vaping, which is fun, and tastes great. See how it goes; take your time. Don't get frustrated with all the lingo and confusing details: things become clearer as you go along, and this is a great community for getting help and info. You begin with your good starter kit, and just hang out with that trying different e-liquids, finding your best level of nicotine, and learning little things as you go along. It's fun, and to me, it was sort of like giving up the worst kind of nasty mystery-meat hot dogs for delicious steak and lobster (for carnivores like me; for vegans, let's say terrible canned veg versus beautiful fresh-picked organic fruits and vegetables)... but if I really want the "hot dog," I can have it. I have a full pack in my coat pocket.

We are all different but I think intent is important.

For me it took 3ish days to quit smoking once my vape arrived. And then another 3 days before it was completely pleasant. Those 3 days were my throat being sore while adjusting. But even w a mild sore throat I still was falling in love. Vapor is so much friendlier than smoke. I can just let the vapor roll across m my face and revel in it.

Oh.. vapor is cold too... sorta a trip.

I can has tapatalked this.

On another note, have you ever visited Pittsburgh Vape House out by Greentree? I also found on Facebook a new shop even closer to me just before Robinson on 22E called Kick 'n Butts.

I Private Message you. I'll bet we live fairly close to each other.

you can make it
I was doing 4 packs a day of analogs
When I first started I smoke 5 to 10 analogs a day along with vapeing
After a week i was down to 2 analogs a day

After less than a month I dont have any analogs I tried one the other day and it tasted nasty
The biggest problem for me was finding the right amount of nic in the vapor
The guy I got my first one from recomended 18mg which wasnt enough
So i got 36mg to start after a week I cut it to 24mg and thatsd where I am now

The amount of nic will depend on each persons need

Good for you for trying to quit the butts TeePee. I can relate how knowing you are going to wake up one day with a pack of ciggs waiting for you. It's kind of scary in an odd way, eh? That's how I felt about it. I think if you want to quit then vaping is going to help carry you through the hard times when those evil cravings hit you. I only started the smoking to vaping transition about 3 weeks ago. Sunday night @ 2:30 AM I smoked my last .... and haven't had once since. I've been vaping a lot the last 3 days and it is keeping me sane when the cravings come. I have hung out with friends and family members while they are smoking and I am fine. I just blow a big cloud of fruity vapor and I don't want a cigg as much.

Best of luck to you. If you trip a few times and go for a cigg don't beat yourself up over it. Most importantly, don't give up! You can do it!

I had no intention of quitting the butts. They were my lil friends through thick & thin. I received some ecigs through a free promotion on the internet. They weren't very good but I went through a day without a smoke. Something I hadn't done in almost 40 years. Been 3 years now. The ease of quitting blindsided me. Teepee, I wish you luck. Betting you won't need it!..

I'm sure most of you can relate, but just the thought of being cigarette-free makes me want to go have one RIGHT NOW.

When I was smoking, those anti-smoking commercials used to make me want one RIGHT NOW for some reason. Even the ones with people missing limbs, throats, etc due to smoking. So glad smoking is finally over for me.

I hate those scare tactic ads and I am betting that they don't deter even a handful of smokers--you always think "yeah, but that won't happen to me." Luckily none of those things did happen to me, but I sure hate seeing them displayed on my TV screen.

I know why! Because scaring smokers make smokers smoke! They have one running now that gives me nightmares, and shakes and I wish I could sue them. The one with the guy pulling his teeth out. That's a very intense phobia of mine after a HORRIBLE dental experience. I can't stand anything that depicts that, and they keep showing it.

I just want to throw out another point of view in regards to the amount of nicotine you start out with. I understand why some are recommending starting with a higher level of nicotine and it absolutely makes sense. However, even after smoking a pack and a half of analogs a day, I just couldn't tolerate anything higher than a 6.

I think that's because in my case, it's the ACT of smoking that soothes me and clears my head. The process of inhaling, savoring the taste and then exhaling is what relaxes me and lowers my stress level. So, because I want to do that A LOT, having a higher level of nicotine didn't work for me. I felt like crap cuz I was over doing it. The solution for me was lowering the nicotine level.....
