Drozd, thanks for explaining what the numbers on the batteries mean! That is extremely helpful!! One thing I'm wondering about is battery life, for, say, the 18350 vs. the 18650. It also seems to me that one of those telescoping mods would be good, since it seems that the reason they telescrope is so they can take either size battery? Also -- I use the pass-thru for my iTaste anytime I'm at the computer, which is most of the time, so I'd really like it if I could get a charger that also offers that pass-thru feature, or is that a separate thing, for this type of charger? I don't have an electrical outlet terribly handy to me at the computer, so I use the front USB port, and that works like a charm, can keep it more or less fully charged all the time, which I understand is better for the battery than letting it run down completely or near-completely.

Thanks bunches, y'all; I feel a lot more informed about what to look for, when I go shopping for mechs and all their paraphernalia. :thumb:

Not a problem at all...
Yes that's why I suggest something like a telescoping one because you can use an 18350, or 18490, 18490 + kick2, or 18650 all in the same unit...

Yes battery life between charges depends on mAh...as well as how low resistance you're running too.. because lower resistance means higher wattage but also higher amp draw...

Below 1 ohm resistance will also dictate which battery you can safely use...but above it...battery size will dictate mAh which will dictate how long they last between charges...
There's actually an equasion that you can figure out that given a specific resistance you can figure amp draw and then given a battery at that amp draw approximately how many puffs you can take...but it's long and involved...

But if we just look at the AW IMR batteries for simplicity sake:
18350.....700mAh.....6A max drain...0.8 lowest safe resistance
18490...1100mAh....16.5A................0.3
18650...1600mAh....24A...................0.2
18650...2000mAh....10A...................0.5

So above 1 ohm....really, how long they last is only a function of mah and that may be an acceptable trade off for convienience of size (standard eGo out of the box was 600mAh for the longest time by the way, and not high drain IMR batteries either)

As for the chargers...for these type they are wall plugs...some have optional car adapters, some have displays that display current voltage of each cell...or selectable charging rates, some that can "rescue" cells that have been overdrained, and at least one I know of that has a 2A usb charging port so you could charge other things or possibly run a pass through off of...but you're going to pay more for the advanced features (example xtar vp2 http://www.xtardirect.com/products/xtar-vp2-charger )
But you aren't going to find a mech that works as a passthrough as well...
The real time voltage display is nice because you won't have to constantly use an DMM (digital multi meter) to constantly check your batteries (though most would suggest one for checking resistances expecially if you're gonna rebuild (though if you have a battery like some of the itaste ones or an mvp2 you can just use that)

My only critique of my short time here is that it's information overload. I'd love a clear, concise, non-technical guide to use, products and maintenance "for the rest of us." Even going to the newbie FAQ section on this site, it's a bunch of links to other threads in the forum. I'd rather not dig around for each individual topic or see something that shouldn't be technical turned into a technical argument.

Yes, sometimes it gets murky...but we're using technical devices...and trying to keep people as safe as possible...
So often times we can't just say eGos are bad, without going into the technical part of why...expecially when there are variables and bunches of people that are going to argue against what you say (partially because they are sold all over the place and cheap)....sometimes we can't guage the OP's level of understanding so we have to explain everything..
I know I strive to be somewhere in the middle and deliver the technical parts I think are important in the easiest layman's terms possible..

Unfortunately there is no easy way to learn. There is just so much to know. I've been reading and learning for a year and a half and I still don't come even close to knowing everything. I stick to what I know is safe and don't progress to anything more complicated until I research it thoroughly.

Not only that--vaping technology changes so rapidly, that every attempt at compilation becomes obsolete in a manner of weeks or months. Manufacturers are constantly tweaking their products in response to vapers' complaints/feedback and introducing new models. The Vamo being sold today is Version 5--so, most everything written about versions 1-4 is pretty much useless. The same applies to atomizers/cartomizers/clearomizers--even our vaping vocabulary can't keep up with all the changes.

The only thing that doesn't change is the Ohm's Law. :D And there's plenty of good information on that subject. ;)

For those who need the most basic info about e-cigs, there is our InfoZone, New Members Forum (Info and Library), the e-cig wiki and some blogs--I like Baditude's recent blogs.

But it's all work--well, reading. Pleanty of good (and bad) information on YouTube also. I recommend PBusardo's videos. He's my go-to guy.

Ok... I won't pretend to understand all the technical aspects, but just from the mAh, it appears that I would probably not be very happy with the 18350; at 700mAh it's less long-lasting than the built-in battery in my iTaste (800mAh), which I keep on the pass-thru all the time just so it's available and won't run down. Looks like I need to go for the 18490 at the very least, but I do like that telescoping feature that some mods offer, so I could even go up to the 18650 if I wanted.

I suppose it's probably inevitable that at some point I'll have to learn how to rebuild coils, but yeah, I'll be getting a multimeter before that happens, to make sure I'm doing it safely -- my husband has wanted one for YEARS but never could really justify the expense, but if I'm going to rebuild my own coils, I definitely want it to be safe and I know he would want the same -- we finally were able to buy our first home in 2011, don't wanna burn it down. :D Don't really *get* this whole sub-ohm, cloud-chasing phenom; as long as these nifty gadgets keep me from wanting to smoke, I'm happy as a little clam. :thumb: It doesn't need to "sing and dance" too. :D

As for a charger... hmm. I see what you mean about the additional cost, but I do think I'd want one with a USB port so I could run on pass-thru, and having a car charger might be useful too, though I don't spend a great deal of time in the truck, but you never know. Considering the important duty of keeping me from smoking, it might be best to be prepared for any eventuality.

In any event, it's not something I'm going shopping for tomorrow or next week; our fed refund won't be here till May, and at that time, I already told the other half that I'm going to spend a good deal on this e-cig/PV thing, while the money's available. Lord knows, most of the time it's not. ;) Figured it would be good to get informed, and shop around online for a while before I'm actually ready to buy -- at this point, I probably wouldn't even recognize a good deal if I saw it. :D

Thx much,
Andria

I've been vaping quite a while and love my set up but even I don't understand some of the lingo. I have good friends that I've made on here that are WAY beyond my knowledge level but they aren't snobbish. If anything, they are helpful. Of course, you'll always find a few that are but that's okay. Just ignore them. And anyone that thinks what Mod they have is a status symbol is ridiculous. Nobody even see's mine. I just bought it for the vape I wanted...no other reason at all.

That's part of my reason for wanting one, too. I'm sure it won't even be close to any kind of status symbol; I see that I need to spend a few serious bucks for safe batteries and charger, so that means I'll be looking for a cheapie mod. Most of what I'm seeing that's really cheap, still looks nice; I like the very sleek, nothing fancy, just functional. I really love that idea of batteries that are separate. I guess it just seems to me that since this is my new way of life instead of smoking, I should have a serious tool for that, not something that's all electronic and would completely baffle me if it just stopped working. Most mechanical stuff can be worked with; replace a part here or a wire there or a coil when you need to, but the whole thing isn't trash just because some part of it stopped working right. Just seems logical to me.

I haven't read the whole thread but I got to the post made of the guy in bed from Coelli and have fallen in love. Thought at my age I was too old for that crap....you made my day LOL.

I get annoyed when guys post gratuitous photos of women on forums so I figure turnabout is fair play. :) Something for us ladies!

Edit: Do you have any idea how hard it is to find photos of hot half-naked men vaping? :(

It seems to go in stages; there really is a lot to learn, so I just started out with a cigalike, because I knew it was necessary for me, for the familiarity; as someone suggested, it was sort of like changing brands. So I found the one I thought suited me best in all respects -- the eRoll -- and it worked like a charm, and brought me to the point of quitting. The same day I enjoyed my first 24 hrs smoke free, I got a Kanger T3S clearo to use with the iTaste I got earlier that week, because those iClear16s just sucked; when I brought it home and filled it up and took my first hit... I knew I could make the quit stick. So far, so good! :D :thumb:

I had heard of the iTaste vv3 from someone here, who said his wife enjoyed it because it's powerful and adjustable, it's also rather small and light; even with a pyrex tank on it, it's not heavy or unwieldy at all, and I really like that. But, it's all electronic, and not being a "chip geek," and bearing in mind all the antics of the idiots trying to make people believe that e-cigs are BAAAAAAAAAD, and the other idiots trying to pretend it's tobacco so they can tax it, I'd really rather have somethng mechanical, which I or my husband or both of us together could work on, fix if necessary. And my environmentally-conscious self really likes that the batteries are separate. True, batteries are disposable, ultimately, but with the rechargeables, you do minimize the impact of disposal.

So don't worry about learning all of it at once; there won't be a test on it or anything. :D Just go at a pace that's comfortable for you, bearing in mind that it's fun to have something like this, where there's always a plus element in learning about it. Lord knows I'm still as ignorant about large parts of it as the day is long, but I'm having fun learning. It sure beats the stuffing out of killing myself with cigarettes! :thumb:

you can get a decent multi meter at walmart for $15-20...it'll do everything we need...certainly doesn't have to be a Fluke...

And it was my pleasure...that's what we're here for..just hope I answered your questions and made it a little more comfortable than just dumping a bunch of links on you...

AndriaD,

well.. it won't technically be two weeks until about 10:15 in the morning... I smoked my last on thurs feb 27 about 10am. And I've made it thru somehow this week getting lower and lower on the only e-juice I can stand to vape all day, while it's been out of stock at myfreedomsmokes. I finally ordered some of the same stuff but in their VG blend, and I feel like my cat, feels like a hairball in there I can't quite cough uip. :D But I found out today that they've restocked, so I can order some Fri when the ol man gets paid, and have it Monday. Somehow I'll make it thru the weekend on VG-blended e-juice. Ack! (damn hairball)

Exactly. Plus it just works. Plain and simple. It works and it's easy to work, plus it provides the vape I was looking for. That was good enough for me :)

you think Vapor snobs are bad? try a motorcycle forum. Harley riders are the only ones who get along with themselves. LOL

Don't even bring up which game console you like on the gamer forums. Xbox and Playstation wars will commence!!! :toast: Thing is...we all have our own opinions and reasons for having them. What I like might not be what you like and that's ok. I hope we all find the things we like in life and that those things make ours lives just a little more pleasant. :toast:
