Hey everyone. Lately, I have seen a lot of people calling others fanboys when they express their happiness with a certain product. I don't get it. If you love a product, what's wrong with sharing it and telling everyone how much you do. Not trying to agitate anyone, I'm just really trying to understand the concept of fanboy and why it irritates some people.

Well, my opinion on what the term means is: Someone who might be overzealous on a product or vendor, so much to the point that one may believe that nothing or no one could ever top them/it, no matter how strong the evidence may be showing otherwise.

People have opinions. Most of the time, they're strong opinions, not easily swayed. If someone uses the term 'Fanboy' in a derogatory manner, it shouldn't really matter much to the victim if they are in fact an immense fan of the product/company.

Personally, I'm an Ave and vape-a-licious Fanboy and a definite ProVari Fanboy and I am damn proud

I agree 100% with Levitas. He hit the nail right on the head.

If I am called a Fanboy I could care less because the person calling me anything is just some poor person with such low self esteem and self confidence that the only thing they can do to make themselves feel better is belittle others.

So folks can call me whatever they like, I have spent the past 15 years of my life protecting their freedom to do so. However I also have the self confidence, self respect and respect for others to not return the behavior.

Still having kids at home, "Fanboy" means something a little different to me. I still laugh when I see somebody launching that sort of attack. It's usually a sign that the person launching the label at another has either lost an argument, or realizes that losing an impending argument is the most likely outcome.

yes, but why do people actually get PO'd when you promote a product. I have had people get absolutely livid with my just because I was stating how much I like a produce. I don't get what makes them so angry.

i dunno??? what you like i may or may not like...or most likely i just havent tried it yet. chances are if i tried it id like it too. personally when people rave about stuff it makes me wanna try it out if i can afford it.

Because the person who got angry can't get you to see a product the way they do. Yes, if you think about it, it's stupid to get angry at anyone. If a product works for someone to keep them from smoking, I'm happy for them.

Not hard to find .. but if you have to, go to Gizmodo.com ... those are fanboys. Apple fanboys. 45 out of 50 stories are about the i(whatever).

If you ever run into a person with an iPhone or iPad, that is a fanboy. They bought a crappy, underperforming, easy-to-break, overpriced phone / 'tablet' that fails to work properly as a phone / 'tablet' because of blind allegience to a company that rips them off and an attempt to "think Different" and be trendy (think about that for a minute). That is the ultimate, stereotypical, blind, sheep-like fanboy.

Promoting a product with obvious flaws is what throws us into the fanboy category. There are a few people that come to ECF just to socialize, but the huge majority are looking for info about Ecigs. Money is limited, and when trash mods are hyped up, and people buy the product on your recomendation, guess what happens when they try it the first day? Not everyone is going to spend thousands shopping for a PV that will set them free from cigs, they wouldn't have too if they were not so many fanboys burying informative threads with drivel.

Different Strokes for Different Folks is definately true. There are some really bad companies out there producing some real junk though, and we all have to remember to spread that word also. If you care about any other member of the vaping community, and honestly wish to save them heartache and cash, that goes above and beyond hyping products. Be HONEST! Fanboys care nothing about facts, just hyping products and maybe getting more free stuff for doing reviews.

I remember the hate mail I got from a Vmod fanboy after I posted pics of my leaky Vmod. She really thought it was not nice to tell people the mod was absolute fail even though lots of other people had leaky ones too. She really didn't like the fact of the pics all over the place spreading the word that the mod has design flaws, and its not related too "proper feeding techniques". She thought I was Trolling.

You can spread the love for your favorite Vape product and not catch the Fanboi label. Spread the facts: good and bad. Fanboys lie and hide the shortcomings of products.

People like this is exactly what I'm talking about. Because in this case I guess I am an Apple Fanboy! So, it's ok that you don't like Apple, no need to get upset!

I had an iPhone once...I was such a "fanboy" that I traded it on an HTC. IMHO, the iPhone is typical media hype driving an average to below average device.

As far as PV "fanboys" go...I have no issue with them. The only issues I have are with Provari and Darwin users that snob everyone else because we don't use their devices. Most Provari and Darwin users are cool though, they use them for what they are...a PV! I also get a little testy with those that say that folks still using carts and attys are "dumb" or "embarrassing." When I smoked analogs, I was never snobbed by Marlboro smokers because I smoked Kools. Perhaps we could stand to learn from our analogging compadres on these issues...

Fanboy is internet slang for proponent. For example, we could all (well, almost all) be called e-cig fanboys. It isn't an insult, nor is it particularly derogatory in and of itself. I suppose the context determines if you should be insulted or not.

I used it in a recent reply about atomizers vs cartos. I'm an atomizer fanboy. Proud of it. OTOH, if I say "carto fanboys" I don't mean it as an insult.... just to replace the phrase "those who are very fond of using cartos, and dislike atties". Guess I'll have to be more careful using it since some people seem to think the term is an insult. As a general rule, it isn't.

I do think you have degrees of "fanboys" tho. You know... take baseball fans. There are those that watch the World Series on TV. Then there are those that haven't missed physically going to at least one WS game each year for the last 30 years.
